Trippin'

Rating:****

These snowshoes are AWESOME for climbing and having great traction. They are easy to get one, they are quiet (unlike the MSRs with plastic decking, like the Denalis and Evos), and - unlike the Atlas - they DON'T flip snow on your butt! For me, the televator thingies are totally worth it; they really do help on steep inclines. BUT - and this is a large but - if you should happen to tread the frame of one snowshoe onto the other, then look out, a faceplant is possibly coming your way. Because a lot of the crampon action of this snowshoe is on the frame itself, if you step on one of the snowshoes the trod upon shoe CANNOT slide out from underneath the offending shoe because the frame crampons are holding it down (make sense?). This isn't an issue with snowshoes that have tubular frames (ie. Atlas, Tubbs, Crescent Moon). SO, although I love these shoes, I do have to be quite careful when using them. I'm still not willing to switch to another brand, but this is a major drawback for clutzy me.

SNOWSHOES THAT WALK THEIR TALK

Rating:*****
This is my third pair of snowshoes over a period of thirty years and they are by far the best. The bindings are easy to adjust and fit very securely. I didn't have to fuss with them over a period of two hours of hard use. When I used them in deep fresh powder (rare in OR) I sunk up to my knees in some spots, but they are light enough that I was able to keep walking without struggling. I'd prefer bigger shoes for regular deep powder use. On less deep and harder snow they were perfect. Exceptional on steep up hill.

Great snowshoes

Rating:*****
These snowshoes are great to use, but require some adjustment if you are used to more standard designs with tubular aluminum. They are lightweight, narrow and have amazing traction. I was always used to having a little bit of slide on downhills (which was pretty fun) but these shoes don't do that. They stick wherever you are, making even challenging icy ascents/traverses straightforward.
The "televator" heel lifts really do help with steep ascents by taking pressure off your calves and back. I would definitely recommend this model over the model without the heel lifts considering the minimal price difference.

Love 'em!

Rating:****

This is my first pair of "modern" snowshoes. Grew up using the old fashioned Eskimo Tennis Rackets. Very lightweight (I'm short). Nice and narrow. Doesn't feel like you even have snowshoes on. Great for short girls like me. Tremendous grip and climb. The only (minor) downfall I find is when hiking through 4-foot-deep, crystaly snow I sunk up to my knee a couple times, but for the most part was able to stay on top. Now, if I can just get my puppy to quit trying to hitch a ride on the back of them.

Best Snowshoes!

Rating:*****
I decided on the Lightning Ascents after attending the REI/Mountainiers Snowshoe Event. Venders from all of the major snowshoe companies let visitors try out their models. My husband and I loved the Lightning Ascents because of their compact size and the fact that they are light weight. We used them on hilly trails in the Cascades, in the deep snow of Yosemite, and on the snowy icy streets of Seattle. The only issue that I have is that the paint easily chips off (I tend to hit the shoes together when I walk).

"Two thumbs way up!"

Rating:*****
These snowshoes are so much better in-person than they appear on line! They are super light weight the gait is perfect which is a big plus for anyone like me who may have had a bad experience with poorly fitting snowshoes -- believe me you don't want to step on your ankles with your snowshoes -- ouch! they're easy to get in and out of and they have great gripability.

crazy traction

Rating:*****

I got these snowshoes and went out hiking with a friend of mine, who was wearing some tube-frame snowshoes. He was slip-sliding backwards and sideways and all over the place, while I was just breezing right along. The blade-like frame on these is really incredible. Plus, they are really lightweight.
