Just the right touch

I was born and raised in the mountains of Alaska, literally. Staying inside the house is just not an option for me. As I am getting older and my parents are getting sick of me bumming their gear I have started acquiring my own. The Whisperlite has been a great piece of gear, keeping my coffee hot and my freeze dried meals not so frozen. Its compact enough to fit in my pack and also tough enough I don't need to worry about it getting damaged. The burner is a little finicky, but with just the right touch she will burn for hours. I have found that when using cheaper white gas the fuel line tends to clog, but there is a needle tool in the end of the fuel line just for that purpose! If you are looking for a no-nonsense straightforward stove to cook and boil water with, there's not much more you could ask for.

Great Little Stove

I live in MN and enjoy winter survival camping. Often times I snowshoe into remote areas to go ice fishing and camping. I needed a stove that was portable, light weight, and would work even in the coldest environments. This stove fits the bill. I own two of these stoves and they have never failed me on my winter camping adventures. unlike other backpacking stoves that use pressurized fuel canisters(that must be disposed of after use), this stove utilizes a fuel canister that is reusable and is pressurized via a hand pump. In cold weather, -20F to 10F. the pressurized fuel canisters of other stoves lose pressure and are unusable while this stove burns strong because you create your own pressure in the fuel canister. If you are into winter camping/backpacking this is the stove for you.

Worth every penny and then some

After researchin different backpacking stoves i bought this one and could not be happier. This stove continues to prove itself. The 11oz fuel bottle is the perfect match and fits nicley in the provided carry sak and lasts a while. Lighting stove is easy(even if your new to this style stove) and doesnt take long even in wind. Boiling water and heating soups and stews only takes a few mins. ALSO great for home when the power goes out if you own an electric stove(which i do). A snow storm knocked the power out and we didnt even have heat in the house. This time we will be ready thanks to MSR. Also BUY THE MAINTENANCE KIT, I havent needed it yet but why take a chance in the woods.

Great, dependable multi-fuel stove

Overall a great stove. Heats quickly, boils fast, and can be used with your choice of cookware. This stove is a bit more difficult to use than some models and types, and involves some setup to use, but it is a time-tested design and can be repaired and cleaned in the field. I've had mine for two years, and over time the included heat sheilds wear out a lot (just thin aluminum that folds up for travel), but better shields are available to buy. This is where MSR is pricey--the repair kit and higher end heat shields, as well as fuel bottles are all sold separatley. This is my biggest criticism is having to buy the extras.

I don't know why I keep coming back to this stove when I have other options. I have the Trangia alcohol and a pop can stove. I have a PocketRocket, Snowpeak Giga and Primus Classic canister stove. So, why do I keep coming back to this stove??? 1. Multi fuel ability. 2. Works AWESOME in colder weather where canister stoves begin to fail. 3. I can tell how much fuel/burn time I have left by looking into the bottle. I suppose that if weight ever becomes a real issue, I can take one of my lighter stoves.

Workhorse backpacking stove

This stove has always been my go to stove. It is powerful enough to cook for a group and reasonably light if you split up the fuel and stove among the group. After 5 years this stove has been to hell and back, and lived! If the jet gets clogged, a quick shake is all that is needed to clear it. The only thing this stove does not do very well is simmer. If you're looking for a durable stove with lots of muscle, you cant go wrong here.

Great little stove

Just got this in time for a 2-day family camping trip - and I thoroughly enjoyed using it! Tested it out at home first and found the fitting at the valve leaky. Took the whole pump/valve assembly apart in minutes to find that the o-rings had a flaky red coating on them that appeared to prevent a good seal. After scraping this paint-like substance off and reassembled, the stove has been working beautifully. I love using it and love how easy it is to work on.

Great stove!

I was first interested in this stove after a few raving reviews from some friends. I have 2 friends who have used the whisperlite international in various countries, and in the Aus and NZ mountains. From those reports, i needed to upgrade to a liquid fuel stove, so i tried one out, [*]!It is very quiet for a liquid stove, stable, fuel efficient AND fast boil, easy maintenance - just as promised by MSR - its no lie.Its a winner, hands down.I am a fan.

Mobile Blowtorch!

Bought this little gem prior to a three day hike with a friend. One 22 ounce bottle of white gas was enough to cook all our meals and brew our coffee for the whole trip. Lightweight, compact, and easy to use, this stove has the grunt to boil up your billy in next to no time, which is nice on cold days. Stability is not great but this is the price to pay for such a compact unit.

Reliable, Fast, but not light

This stove heats fast! It's can be a bit disconcerting getting it started if it decides to be finicky (due to the noise) but it WILL start and that is the key. The primary way to save weight with this stove is to have a couple different sized bottles and only bring the fuel you need. Also, work the fuel line so it becomes more flexible, otherwise your bottle can overpower the stove, potentially tipping it over.
