Great Hiking Boot! I am a woman with wide feet. I normally wear a women's 10 wide and the men's 8.5 EE are great. They are large enough to accomodate extra thick hiking socks and/or custom orthotics. My only complaint is that the collar around the ankle is very stiff, that took some breaking in, and I really needed the thick socks to be comfortable. The rest of the shoe was comfortable right out of the box, and they relieve my foot pain when I wear them. The only other shoes that can do that for me are Earth shoes, but they don't have a good hiking boot. FYI - the women's style looks the same, but in a lighter color, I like the medium brown of the men's version. Also, many reviewers said this shoe runs small, it doesn't. Overall a great mid wieght hiker and it's waterproof, too!

This is the second pair that I have bought. It is replacing a pair that wore out and when repaired did not give me the proper balance. I have balance problems due to weak leg muscles and my physical therapist recommended this type of shoe over my New Balance sneaker-type walking shoe. She tested me in these and the sneakers and I had better balance in these. I walk well in these shoes, I use a cane also, but the fit, and the balance is what counts. I recommend it to anyone who needs support for balance. The shoes are well-made and easy to keep. I wear mine at least five days a week and the pair that I replaced I had for two years.

Very satisfied. Paid a little more than I ever had for shoes, I'm a cheapskate, but cost was well worth it. I usually get 2x, but due to availability I got 4x and realized maybe this is what I needed all along. Extremely comfortable from the first day, quality is obvious, Gore-Tex is very light and being one that can never find the right fit, at 57 years old, I believe I have this time. I normally don't leave feedback, but these shoes deserve it. Thanks, I'll be back. The length size I normally buy is a 1/2 size bigger, due to the recommendations I read on the Zappos website.

Excellent shoe for long shifts on your feet. I work 10-12 hours shifts on concrete and these perform wonderfully. My first pair lasted over two years. Very durable. Excellent ankle support with better-than-average arch support. You will definitely need another or additional insole support, as the one from New Balance is very thin. The toe box area is very roomy, and as a consequence, they run a little large. They do require some break-in time, especially around the ankle. These also are awesome for trail hiking, where they are waterproof. A little pricey, but I will order them again.

These are the most comfortable light hiking boots I have ever owned. I started buying New Balance shoes years ago because of the generous toe box. These boots are true to form. I had to add a Birkenstock orthotic, because the supplied insole gave little to no arch or foot support. Now they are perfect. It would be nice if New Balance would supply a good insole. Zappos service is second to none. Ordered 3PM, arrived the next day. Couldn't get much better. These boots are winners, and I think they would stand up well to light backpacking.

I bought these to use for hunting in Colorado this September. I have worn them and hiked in them around my hometown, they are comfortable and required no break in period. Hopefully they will perform equally as well in the mountains. I have worn them in wet grass and so far they are waterproof as well.I have a previous pair of a NB shoe of similar quality but not Gore-Tex . This persuaded me to buy these. If there is anything wrong with them I would say it is the cost. They aren't cheap.

I bought the the 9.5 EE and have been very happy with it, although the shoe runs a little large. I\'ve walked about six miles a day in these shoes for the last 4 weeks. They are a comfortable, nice-looking pair of boots. I did get lace blisters for the first week or so on my right foot, but they went away after the shoe was broken in. I didn\'t get any other blisters or foot pains that I sometimes get with shoes that don\'t fit well or that have extremely hard soles.

EXCELLENT! I read the other reviews and they convinced me to spend the extra money and buy these instead of sneakers. Well worth the money. I work construction, on my feet all day and split my time between installing and sales calls, and these are the best. They were a little uncomfortable first day or two as I got used to them, now I dont know they are there and feel solid. I do wish the tongue was a little bigger, which others also noted, but all in all, I am very happy.

Just bought my second pair - These are awesome shoes. I have had a pair of these and worn them almost every day for 3 or 4 years. They've held up great and are totally comfortable shoes. There's still a bit of life in my old pair, but they are getting a bit long in the tooth, so I grabbed another pair while I still could.

Not as pliable and loose fit as I thought, maybe because I haven't worn it enough. My Keens, also a mid-top, are more easily put on and more easily taken off without any hassle. The NB 977 seem to be not as easy as the Keens. Flexible is the word I'm looking for, when tying and putting on the shoes. Hope this helps.
