I am puzzled by these reviews.

I purchased this item to use in a lantern. The light projected down and not out enough for this application. When installed in my two cell Maglite this item works fine. Bright white light that focuses nicely. I can use half dead batteries (that produce a dim yellow beam with the stock bulb) and have a bright white light. Not as bright as the 3 watt Maglite upgrade but as good or better that the stock bulb.

The output of this bulb conversion is feeble. No matter what the packaging says in watts/lumens; cut it in half. The good thing is its half the price of the Mag-lite LED upgrade. Mine blinks off momentarily when it heats up. You can also swap this into any number of other small lamps or lanterns for a small area light.
Big dissapointment!

I have a couple of the mini mags converted that put out as much light as this, practically. I need my D cell light for strong light and this bulb comes off as feeble. With 4 D cells in the tube, I will stick with the xenon bulb untill they come out with something much better. If you want a just ok light that will stay on forever, this may be your ticket and for that I would rate it an extra star but I think that the mini mags are much more convenient for that.

Great battery life, perfect for keeping as emergency in your car. Not very bright, non adjustable beam, not much distance illumination. Actually best in the AA mini mag version. Still good to have.

It worked while I had the lens cap removed during installation of the new bulb. After I screwed on the lens, the LED would not light up anymore. I have a Maglite 6-cell D flashlight. I will request an RMA and see if the new one works.
