Waterproof and I don't overheat

I'd been using a dark-colored, lamenated jacket for bike commuting in the rainy Seattle weather.

After comparing jackets at REI, I picked this one up during a Novara 30% sale. I highly reccomend this jacket.

I have a long downhill at the beginning of my commute, and this jacket keeps the wind off my skin. The end of my commute has a long climb, and I stay cool in this jacket, despite the increased effort. For warmer temperatures, it has pit-zips that are easily accessable form the front.

When I ride in the rain or fog out here, the water visibly beads up on the jacket. Definitely waterproof, but without suffocating you like my old jacket.

This jacket fit me much better in the shoulders than the Novara Express jacket, which felt more restricted in that area. I reccommend wearing an insulating layer for tempeartures below 35-40. The fit of the jacket allows you to layer, but still feels trim and tapered when I don't layer as much.

Warm, dry jacket

I have used the jacket twice - both days in low to mid-40 degree rainy weather while road biking. The jacket fit me well - sleeves were long enough even when stretched out on my handlebars. The back flap dropped to cover my rear. Pit zips opened a bit helped for a little ventilation I stayed warm and dry with just a just a long sleeve fleecy bike jersey under the jacket. I recommend this jacket for cool to cold riding - may be too warm for wet summer rides.

Re-visit bikewear after 30 years

I bought a similar jacket almost 30 years ago on my first trip to Seattle. My husband has worn that jacket on most of his bike trips which take him all around the country. He still wears it, but it is showing its age, so I thought a new jacket would make the perfect Christmas present. I enjoyed picking out this new model during a recent return visit to Seattle.

Very functional jacket, looks good too.

Fits well, sleeve zippers don't leak in the rain like many other jackets. The zipper flap takes getting used to. The zipper pull is on the right like most men's jackets, but the flap is also in the right which takes some getting used to. Also, no front pockets, just two on the back. That is really minor given how well the jacket keeps the rain out.

Warm and Dry, but...

I have worn this jacket a dozen or so times, more for warmth/windstoppage than for waterproofing. While the jacket gets 5 stars for just about every aspect, the material at the end of the sleeves is already showing serious fraying. I have brushed rubber cement over the area to stop the fraying and add a layer of protection, but would have expected better quality for the price.

Keeps me dry and warm

This replaces a worn-out goretex jacket. I feel better with this on when I'm riding. Better visibility, windproof, and rain protection. I also like the mud flap.
