Large, durable, very secure mounting

Rating:*****
I use these to commute from Alexandria to DC every day, all year in all weather. My old bag/convertible pannier matched with the rack (manufacturer starts with a 'T') but was not up to the task and leaked water, wore quickly, rattled, etc. I also use these for grocery shopping, long hauls with cargo, etc. and they haven't let me down so far.

These things are made out of a thick rubbery material in all places with a hard backing against the rack side rails and so far are totally waterproof. All zippers and seams are sealed over with rubberized flaps. Two click straps, one on each end, hold down the top of the bag when riding. When closed and strapped down, I can't imagine water ever getting into these bags. Construction is robust to say the least, but the bags aren't all that heavy considering. There is a carry handle on top of the bag, although no shoulder strap is included. Inside is no-frills; there are two keychain clips and space for REI's modular organizer thing (for carrying office supplies, a laptop etc), which I do not have. One bag alone is sufficient for my gym and work clothes, lunch, day supplies and a few small extras. The two bags are totally separate and hang off both sides, and do not attach to each other.

The mounting hangers use an adjustable shim to accommodate any diameter of rack rails and it fits my Topeak Explorer rack very securely, perhaps better than with Topeak's matching bag/rack mounting system. The hanger locks in when pressed down and releases by pressing a button. There is a clip near the bottom that grabs the rack near the axle to prevent the bag from swinging outward on sharp turns. Unless you need massive capacity for touring, this is the pannier to rule them all.

Great Panniers; Great Value,

Rating:****
I own a pair of these and have loved them. They are roomy and have held up for over 1 year of regular use (I commute ~40 miles/day). In short, they're a great value compared to that brand that starts with an "O". :-)

At first, I was concerned that the zipper closure wouldn't keep things dry, but living in Portland, OR and commuting as I do, I've never had a problem.

After some initial tinkering with the brackets, they are easy to put on and take off of my rack.

I broke one of the buckles that pull the flaps down on the side. The flap dangles a bit, but I've still had no issues with things getting wet. I wish there was a way to replace/repair the buckle, though.

The only other niggle is that I wish the bags had more reflective surfaces and that they'd been available in bright yellow or something.

Last, I wish panniers had loops for clipping a blinky light to. Not aware of any that do.

Functional, but need interior pockets

Rating:****
They are water proof and not too heavy. They have a keychain on the inside that is helpful, but it would be nice if there were a small pocket inside to keep some important things accessible at the top. They don't look that big, but they seem cavernous with clothes, spare tubes, etc in them. Also, the clips at the top don't fit over my rack that well, sometimes they are a struggle to take off, and they are not easy to carry around off the bike.

Great all-weather bags

Rating:****
Great waterproofing. Very tough material. No outside pockets, so you have to open the whole thing to get anything out. Large size makes for some great touring bags, but it's a bit overkill for a commuter, and if you try to use just one then your bike feels lopsided. They won't allow anything to air out, which is the only drawback for touring. I'd have to recommend a separate bag for that.

Amazing Product

Rating:*****
the packs are amazing, I loaded each up with about 30 pounds for a 4 day trip, they really took alot of weight off my back and out of my pack, they can get a bit tricky if your riding on narrow trails but it is do-able. I recommend these for anybody that wants to help lighten your load.

Daily use for the past year - doing grea

Rating:*****
I am a daily commuter in Seattle and have been using these bags every weekday for the past year. They have worked perfectly from day 1 and show little signs of usage a year later. I have never had any water leakage or problems. They are smaller than more expensive bags, but have always provided the space I needed.

Waterproof. Sticky

Rating:***
I use these for commuting. Every day, rain or shine. I like the waterproofness, but I REALLY wish they had a lining. Because there is no lining, anything you try to put in the bag, or remove, contacts the rubber inner surface. This has a very high coefficient of friction; it is almost sticky. Forget about sliding a briefcase or shoulder bag into the pannier, it has to be wiggled in slowly while keeping the bag fully open. Frustrating at the end of a long day when the rain is pouring down on you. If Novara could just solve this one design flaw they would have a winner. (Well, I see these are on closeout, so a winner for next year?)
