My osprey Talon 22 is great. No two ways about it. I use this pack to take my personal supplies to and from work. I was worried because I knew I needed pockets. Well, with a good sized pocket at the top of the bag, 2 side stretch pockets, one large stuff pocket, a main compartment, a small Velcro pocket in the main compartment and also one in hydration compartment and two shoulder strap pockets and two belt pockets ,I found i had nothing to worry about. The main compartment is plenty large. I can fit my lunch in the bottom of the pack, a nalgene on top of that, a stuff sack with my hat and gloves, my rain shell or extra shirt with a bit of room to spare. The stuff pocket on the main compartment has also held my nalgene and rain shell with ease. It now is holding the novel i am reading and does so without fear of it falling out. I have my professional CPR mask in one side stretch pocket and a box of Quench gum in the other. The side pockets are really a joy to have on this pack because they are extremely versatile with enough room and stretch for a Nalgene. The top zippered storage pocket held ALL my 'medical' supplies. Ibuprofen, liquid bandage, antacids, Swiss Army Knife, twenty plus items, everything i might need. The Small Velcro pocket inside the hydration sleeve is perfect for my Pocket Bible. The belt pouches hold a battery powered cell phone charger and 4 batteries and my Surefire Z2 combat light respectively. The straps are comfy and despite their diminutive appearance support my full gear weight without problems. The pockets on the shoulder straps are great. You need to work to get anything in them but that just means it will take an act of congress to make something fall out. Ipods, cell phones and Swiss Army Knives are safe, even on the move. I haven't yet used this bag out doors but i cannot wait. I have an acid green model, which isn't as bright as in the pictures but it isn't a problem. The color is Pleasing to say the least. compression straps, hip belt, sternum straps with safety whistle. Torso adjustment. Amazing pack!

I love this backpack! I had another daypack/backpack, which I really liked, but it was more book bag-ish, so I wanted a cool backpack that looked and felt like a REAL backpack. This Osprey is perfect. It holds a lot, the pockets are great, the material is great, and it is very adjustable. The main compartment holds more than I thought it would. It has a lot of compression straps just in case you don't have it packed to capacity. The top zip pocket is advertised as a sunglass pocket, but it is much larger....I can fit my wallet, change purse, passport, small notebook, pen, tissues, and yes, sunglasses, in that pocket. The hip belt zippered pockets are just big enough to hold a snack or gum or maybe a little digital camera. The harness pockets (the ones that will be on your chest) are perfect for an MP3 player. I am a Navy wife currently living in Japan, but we are moving to Hawaii this month. I've already used my backpack for a weekend in Tokyo, but I know it will really rock in Hawaii for hiking, boating, and just throwing it in the back of my Jeep for a drive to the beach or anywhere. This backpack will be with me for a very long time....maybe forever. By the way, the chili red color is actually a very awesome darker orange. I love it. I was concerned about the color when I ordered (it looked kind of orange in the picture, which is what I wanted; but it said it was chili red, which I didn't want). So if you have those same concerns, don't worry! The color is great. You will love this backpack!

They made the perfect day pack

so I just got the new Talon 22 pack and I'm blown away on how perfect this pack is. I have been looking for a good day pack for some time now and I found it! Every time I go somewhere I always seem to over pack, but this bag gives me enough room to get everything I need into it no matter what season, My 2 1/2 L Hydration pack with insulation on it fits perfect, and the pack even has a strap to hold it in place preventing the bottle from slipping down as you drink. First looking at this pack it doesn't seem to have many pockets, but after you pack it for the first time you realize there are over 11 pockets to stash your gear. The pack fits very close to the hips. The pack also fits narrow on your back keeping the center of gravity closer to you and preventing the pack from shifting and throwing of your balance. A narrow pack also allows you better flexibility while walking or climbing tough terrain. I would highly recommend this pack to a friend for a day out on the trail. It will also make a good overnight bag fitting maybe 3 pairs of jeans 3 shirts and a extra pair of shoes with no problem. I have been looking for the perfect day pack for sometime now and I finaly found it in the Osprey Talon 22 5 stars from me

I bought this pack for adventure racing. The weekend after I bought it I did a single day "medical" adventure race where you had to carry a lot of extra gear. The pack accommodated my stuff as far as space is concerned, and the design of the pack allows for easy carrying. The compression and load adjustment straps keep the load secure and close to your body eliminating bounce. The hydration bladder actually hangs from a hanger in the hydration sleeve, which prevents the bladder from bunching up at the bottom of the pack when it starts to empty. The back ventilation is comfortable, as are the waist belt and adjustable sternum strap. I have also started using this pack for mountain biking just because it's more comfortable than my smaller hydration pack I've been using for biking. I've also been wearing this pack and flipped a canoe, and my gear inside the main area stayed largely dry. All-in-all, thoughtfully designed bag that is perfect for day hikes (maybe even an overnighter, although I haven't tried that), long trail runs, mountain biking, and adventure racing.

Best Backpack Ever | |

I got this bag to replace a 15 year old Osprey Simplex that was in great shape but hopelessly outdated. I wavered over the overwhelming choice of daypacks for about a year. This bag is perfect in every way. I use it to hike, mountain bike, commute to work, grocery shop, and stare at instead of the TV. I ditched my camelbak mule when I got this. It's bigger, but I hardly notice it on my back. It never moves on my back like the mule did down steep stuff. I can fit 2 3L bladders in the hydro sleeve for desert epics. Pockets everywhere keep all my crap (camera, knife, gatorade, gu, bars, etc) organized and accessible. It seemed like a really lightweight pack when I first got it, but it feels great on my back even loaded and it is as durable as any Osprey product. I would have paid $150 for this bag.

| I work at REI and have sold hundreds of these packs. When I finally decided to buy one, we were sold out! And no wonder. This pack is perfect for my every day commute. The zippers are covered for my bus ride, my rain jacket fits nicely in the front open pouch. Inside the main compartment there is a place for my money stash and another pocket for my cell phone, etc. The main mistake people make is thinking this pack is made for laptops or large books. It is designed to be a daypack - meaning no more than 20 pounds and if you want it to work right, the weight should be distributed evenly. Lunch, shoes, keys, water bottle, camera, ipod, rain jacket, and whatever else you need - I couldn't have asked for a better pack. | |

"Greatest Daypack Ever"

| I used this to hike the Inca Trail (porters carried the big stuff) and it held everything from full rain gear, snacks, cap, trekking poles, gloves, hat and an extra fleece. This pack is incredibly comfortable and amazingly adjustable. Two other people on our trek had the Talon too (and they were way more experienced at hiking than I was, so I gave myself total props for picking the same pack as they did), and I would say that the three of us were the happiest hikers out there. My only complaint is that the side pockets don't really fit Nalgene bottles very well - they're too narrow and shallow. They really only the circumference of a regular plastic water bottle. | |

| This is one dank little backpack! I don't think I would have survived the last month and a half here in Europe backpacking all over without this tough little guy! Perfect for that little day trip into and around a city or that weekend stunt cruising north a few hundred kilometers to Munich for Oktoberfest. It has not ceased to impress me at how versatile this thing is. Every time I go out it fits everything I want with room to spare. And comfy it is! The padded arm straps are really nice and with the Airscape backing it really does keep things cool. When and if this baby ever fails I definitely wouldn't think twice about snagging another. | |

"This pack kicks butt and looks good doing it"

| The huge zippers, loads of smaller pockets, and highly adjustable suspension made me fall in love with this pack. Two perceived flaws: There is no way to manage the excess length of many of the straps, which can make the bag look like spaghetti. Some brands are better at this, but I found duck tape fixed this problem pretty discretely since the grey color of the straps closely matches it. Also, the side pockets for water bottles are difficult to reach while the pack is being worn and even a standard sized water bottle is a tight squeeze. This is easily forgiven since the pack accommodates a water bladder. Overall, very comfortable, carries plenty, and looks great. | |

I've had the TALON 22 for afew weeks now and its worked out just fine. "BUT" I'm not to happy with the zippers closures on the hip belt, maybe velcro closures would have been better ???? Having some trouble when pulling on the zipper tabs when trying to close the pockets again....
