Outdoor Research Axiom Jacket

This is a great, super lightweight shell. Did the 16 mile uphill hike into Chimney Pond on Katahdin in ME last month in single digit temps and was impressed at how well the jacket breathed. I've had other shells where this kind of exertion in cold weather would leave the inside of the garment covered in frost but the Axiom was bone dry. I'm 6' and 170 lbs and the L I got works well with the multiple winter layers I planned on having under it. For summer time it might be a tad big, but it will definitely be my go to cragging jacket - super compact in the bottom of my pack. Pockets could be a tad higher for full functionality with a harness on but they're still usable. The snug fit at the hips that some mention is a plus when you're climbing and want trim garments with no unnecessary bulk under your harness. Nice long sleeves that cover half of my hand with easy to use (with gloves) velcro tabs that allow you to wear your gloves over your sleeves or under.

superb light weight alpine shell

I have about 30 ski tour days and 20 hiking days in my Axiom. The Axiom stuffs into its own pocket and packs to the size of a water bottle. There are some smaller-packing "insect wing" shells on the market, but none that offer true alpine wind and weather protection like this. This isn't a gossamer layer, it's real Goretex that cuts wind and sheds snow. The sleeves fit long for active movement, the overall cut is slim and athletic so nothing is left flapping in the breeze. The hood adjustment works well w/ or w/out a helmet, even while wearing gloves. Fair warning though, this Goretex active fabric does require that you refresh the DWR. If you think outerwear should never be cleaned or re-treated, then this isn't the jacket for you. My only gripe is that the side pockets are un-useable while wearing a pack.

Great Jacket

No surprises with the fit. This is a fantastic jacket. I bought it mainly as a rain jacket for spring to fall hiking, but have ended up wearing it almost every day that I've ski toured this year.

I work in the snow, and this coat has stood up to abuse. Its lightweight, stuffs into its own pocket.

The axiom breathes super well and is very waterproof. This is a lightweight gore shell, so don't expect to be toasty without proper layers underneath.

My new favorite jacket.

World's best jacket

This Jacket is a 4 Season protection. It is light weight but still sturdy enough for a full day storm condition in the mountains. Has just enough pockets and the pockets work also while wearing a harness. The zippers are waterproof. It feels very soft on the body and slides very well over the layers. They have cool colors as well. I use it for Rock climbing, mountaineering as well as Ski Touring in high winter it is a real all weather protection jacket for pros.

My Go-To Jacket

I've worn this jacket - and its prototype - since June and it has quickly become my go-to jacket. That's the jacket that I grab 80% of the time, and have to justify replacing it with something else. I've skied big multi-day tours and climbed long alpine routes in this jacket, and it has a degree of ventilation and stretch that I never thought possible with a Gore-Tex fabric. I'm really looking forward to using it this winter skiing.

Light and Breathable

I have been using this product skiing and climbing in the Cascades and Coast Range. It is my new favorite shell. It is light, packs easily, and is extremely breathable. I am able to do a lot of work without feeling like I am getting wet from the inside out. I have used it in drier snow conditions as well as wetter snow and rain without complaint. It goes with me everywhere.

Stretchy and Waterproof - WoooHooo

A great jacket that allows for lots of movement -far more they you normally get out of a hardshell. It's light enough to take rock climbing and burly enough to wear ice climbing. I used mine on a big wall ice climbing expedition to Juneau and felt it preformed great.

Great jacket

I love this jacket. The fit is great (plenty of length in the sleeves). Its very durable and can shed water all day. I have yet to take this jacket up into an alpine environment, but after hearing first hand accounts I am confident that it will perform well.
