Great Jacket - Great Service
| Rating: | ![]() |
I have been looking for a replacement 4 seasons jacket for a little over a year. I am very selective as I tend to keep my gear for a long time and like to know what I am buying is top quality, fully featured and well priced. I was looking for a relaxed fit jacket that was very light weight - where you could comfortably layer underneath it in colder climates. I was also looking for it to have both hook and loop and elastic cuffs, pull cord hem, an internal pocket as well as good sized outer pockets and well designed, a fully stowable hood in the collar, pit zips, a proper membrane and not just a laminate and it had to look conservative enough that I could wear it any time including on wet days to work and the office without looking like I was on my way to the mountains. I searched through Patagonia, North Face, Marmot, Mountain Hardware, Arcterx and others. The Elixir not only fits the bill but exceeds it. It is quiet, comfortable, excellent quality and very well designed. Large front pockets that have a little velcro on a weather flap so you don't have to keep zipping / unzipping them if your actually carrying anything in them and they also have weather zippers if you want to fully close them. These main front pockets are mesh inside (but durable) so also allow the jacket extra venting when needed. I like this feature though I know others prefer fleece or a more solid lining in the pockets. For me that would be too warm to make it a real 4 season and would add weight. The hood is excellent with two way adjustments and moves well with your head and does not obscure vision. It also stores in the collar easily and is not obvious when stored. Its Goretex, light weight yet durable. Excellent Pit Zips and very good fit. Comfortable with or without layering. I am 6ft 225lbs and the XL is just right. The storm flap for the main zip (which is YKK) does not get in the way, has no velcro or snaps on it, yet functions perfectly. It has a outer chest pocket and internal pocket. The only thing I would change about this jacket is that these pockets could be larger or they could add another large internal pocket but they are functional and though not large enough to store maps they could hold your wallet and probably some light weight gloves. But this is not enough to drop my rating. The overall quality and features of this jacket make it an easy 5 stars.

Great Stuff. | |

| Bought this shell to layer over an OR Credo soft-shell. These replace an EMS SYNC system. I find that the Goretex/PacLite material is softer and much quieter than the stiffer materials found in other rain jackets. It'll pack small and light to be used when you need it. This jacket has more of a relaxed fit while the Credo jacket has more of an athletic fit so layering is great. Generous sizing of sleeves with OR jackets allow you to be active (snowboarding, camping, rock climbing, biking)…this is a huge plus! Great quality jacket with fully taped seams and waterproof zips that actually work. All in all- a great wide-spectrum shell when used alone or layered. It can easily be worn around town without making you look you’re going on an expedition. This makes this jacket great for everyday life as well as your outdoor life. Only feature that I can gripe about is that the two hand pockets are a mesh material rather than something like a micro fleece. This isn't enough to knock it to a four. Overall, I'm very happy...technical jacket with many great features. I will definitely try other O.R. products. | |

Great Goretex Paclite Jacket
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I love that it has a tough 75 denier fabric instead of the measly deniers used by others. Great for going thru branches. The jacket is intelligently designed with a fold away hood (50% of the reason I bought it) that doesn't bother the neck too much and makes for a cleaner look in town without looking like a mountain jacket. The sleeves with velcro and elsatic is also great. The chest and inner pockets are good. The pitzips are good but kind of wide where I do feel them against my body, though not annoyingly so. I've spent 5 hours in torrential rain stationary and the jacket help up well (stayed dry). The Paclite did show condensation on the inside, but in 100% humidity, there's no material on Earth (not even the acclaimed eVent fabric) that can prevent condensation under such conditions. Overall, the most sensibly designed light rain jacket on the market. YES, it can be improved, but it gets the job done on many levels. | |

Excellent design | |

| I'm 5'11' and 200 lbs. and the large is a perfect fit. For a hard shell this jacket is surprisingly supple. It is light and allows great freedom of movement. The pit zips are huge for efficient venting during increased activity. Before buying this shell I never liked hoods that folded into collars. This jacket has changed my mind. The design around the neck is superb and the hood moves well with your head to effectively avoid obstructing your vision. The Gore-Tex Paclite makes for a thin and extremely comfortable shell. The rain flap covering the zipper is not encumbered with annoying velcro, but rather, is effectively designed to cover the zipper without it. I'm really impressed with this shell and am thankful for the thought that Outdoor Research put into it. It's an easy 5 stars | |

| I was looking for a replacement for my Marmot Precip jacket that lost is waterproofness, and found this great jacket on sale. I'm 5'7 and 142 lbs, and find the size S to be quite generous in fit without feeling baggy. The sleeve length is just right (covers half of my hand), and the back provide complete coverage of my butt. The material feels soft, light and quiet (compared to the Precip), just perfect. I haven't worn it out yet, so I can't say anything about the breathability of the fabric, but the thing is definitely waterproof, and the pit vents are quite large. Overall, a great jacket for wet weather, including use in town given its non-flashy style and clean look. | |

Perfect for me | |

I've had this jacket for over a month now, and not a minute to soon, as it has rained pretty much every other day in Central Arkansas (or is this the Pacific Northwest?) It is replacing a Patagonia H2No shell, which kept me dry for years, but was uncomfortably clammy. This jacket breathes sufficiently, and keeps me completely dry. The XL fits me well, with room for layering, at 6', 220 lbs. (okay, 230 haha). I've also had the unfortunate chance to test the worthiness of the ripstop fabric on some nasty sawbriars, it punctured but did not tear as I jerked my way free. I would strongly recommend this shell to a friend.

Excellent Jacket! | |

| I researched a lot of jackets to find the right one. I definitely wanted Gore-Tex quality at a reasonable price, which is hard to find. The Elixir is light, but durable, boasting 75D construction. The zippers are simple, but strategically placed. I'm tall with long arms and it fits great. (If you fit this description, I would really check this jacket out. I even called Outdoor Research to get sleeve lengths and they were a great help.) I'm also pretty wide, and it feels great. Not too tight, not too loose. So far, performance has been great. I highly recommend this jacket. | |

This is the bomb!! | |

| The elixir is probably the best rain shell I've ever had. Construction is top notch (does everything need to be made in china?)I had the EMS deluge paclite and found it too noisy in high wind(it went back). Just the right amount of features too. There is an interior zip pocket that is not mentioned. I do think the hand warmmer storm flaps are a waste. They are double thickness and overkill considering they are covering waterproof zippers. The stowable storm hood is great(not filling up with snow when hanging around). Great all around. | |

Great product from OR | |

Another great product from OR. This jacket is light, sipmlpe and very versatile. Tru to size, has enough room for layers. Nice hood, not too large (please note, it's NOT helmet compatible), lots of adjustments, rolls up nicely into collar. Storm flap construction is nice, great zipper, solid fabric, feels beefy even for PacLite. Only one thing: if you have hood rolled up into collar and zip jacjet all the way up, it will be very tight around neck. Minor discomfort, but needed to be mentioned.

GREAT - but exterior stays wet

Bought for a 80 mile backpack in Sweden - we had 4 days of RAIN & extreme high winds - stayed warm & toasty inside - 100% DRY - but what I didn't like - the exterior is soft, not a glossy exeterior like other OR PACLITE's that shed the rain - mine is Maroon & the outside turns color where the water soaks in to the exterior. Hope this helps SIZING: Runs large (in the upper body too)

Not waterproof! | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| OK, so this is my first Goretex shell, imagine my surprise when I found out it isn't waterproof! I wanted to use the shell and matching pants for sailing in wet weather, I couldn't believe it when I was soaked after about 20 minutes. I am back to wearing my $80 waterproof gear. Yeah the cheap gear gathers moisture on the inside but at least I don't get soaked. Gore-tex is a well advertised rip off. Ok the jacket looks nice and seems to be well made but its not good for much beyond going to the store on a misty night. Bahhhhhh, what a waste of money! | |
