Outdoor Research Radar Pocket Hat Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

This hat is just as good as most of the reviews say, if not better. Bought it for a vacation in Costa Rica and wore it every day hiking, beaching, etc. Just folded it up and pocketed it at night. I'm picky about these things from a style perspective, and this hat looks good.
The folding brim is awesome and looks good even after a couple weeks of solid wear and tear, including being stuffed into the pocket of my board shorts on a regular basis. The size chart is accurate and it is a medium depth hat - not as deep as a traditional new era fitted cap, but not too shallow either. I am ordering another color and will probably start wearing them around the city as well.

Favorite Hat

Absolutely love this hat. On my second one, not because of a durability issue the last one was just claimed by the river. Had to repurchase right away because none of my other hats are as useful as the radar. Sheds water very well in light to medium rain. Hat is very soft and comfortable, even after multiple days of sweating in it and does an odor. Favorite part is still the foldable bill. I ride a motorcycle and its wonderful to just throw it in a pocket and have a hat with me when I take the helmet off. Feels correct to sizing. Easiest hat to keep with you any time you need to wear other head gear.

Great hat, enough said

This is a great hat, I use it for hiking, mountaineering and just running around town. Leave it to Outdoor Research to think of it all. I usually don't use a fitted or nonadjustable hat when I am hiking or in the mountains, because I like the option of quickly just buckling the sternum strap through the adjustable portion of the hat when the wind picks up. OR put a little loop inside the hat for just this purpose I am guessing. It is comfortable and the material is light. The light material breaths well. I order a size "L" and it fits me perfectly and I normally wear a size 7 1/4 in fitted hats.

My only problem is that all the colors aren't pictured here, so it is hard to pick the right size color combination without alot of hassle. I have a relatively small head and the medium is a little loose, but comfortable. The small is snug. I don't need it snug, so I'm going for the medium. The bill of the hat has a scored seam that allows for folding the hat so it can be put into your back pocket. It does look a tad odd, but isn't a deal breaker for me. Backcountry, could you show the other colors for those of us who are picky about colors?

Great Hat

Great all-around hat! I don't wear hats often, but this is my go-to. It can go from running to errands to traveling and when you're done you can just throw it in your bag or tuck it into your pocket. It breathes nicely and never feels like my head is getting too hot. I agree with the comment about the sweat band. I have the black hat and you can definitely see the sweat line. But, that is something that could probably be fixed by throwing the hat in the gentle cycle. Nice fabric, great quality, great customer service...I would definitely recommend this hat!

A bit pricey but a very good product

I was scrambling at the REI store for a cap in the last minute. Was going to hike the Angels Landing at Zion. I have always had issue with caps getting too heavy with my sweat. This cap was surprising great. I never felt it to be heavy at all and it's foldable and fits well in your pocket. The cap is super breathable and dries quickly. I thought it was a bit pricey when I saw the tag but I got a 20% off as a REI member, so it was worth at the price I got it for.

Excellent all weather cap!

This is the second OR radar cap I have purchased (the other while on vacation). I liked the light weight, the portability (brim folds to fit in a pants pocket) and the style so much I wanted another! Although the brim is not long, it still provides as much protection from the sun as any other ball type cap at half the weight and is more breathable. The cloth dries easily and quickly and cleans up easily as well. It has become my "every day" hat. The price was relativly low for this type of hat as well.

Love this Hat!

This is a great hat. I owned it in khaki, but lost it so I had to get two more (dark green and blue). I'm balding on the top, so this is a nice cover for the top of the head without being as bulky as a standard hat. It's easily packable, so there's no problem taking it off and sticking it in a back pocket when you go inside... maybe that's how I lost the khaki one?

Just what I was looking for!

I use this for general outdoors activities including hiking and camping. One size fits all styles never seem to fit me, and the individual sizing (L) fits me almost perfectly. It is very light and comfortable. The folding brim is nice for travel/stuffing in a pack. Some people have said they think the brim is too short, but it suits my needs. The one improvement I might suggest would be a small degree of adjustment.
Vent Noir at Campmor on 07/07/2011

I had one, it got stolen. First thing I did when I realized it was gone.... got online and ordered a new one. Even if I had found the other one, having two would be fine. I never go anywhere without this hat on or in my bag. I love the short brim, the folding feature on it is also nice for when the hat is in my back pocket or in my pack.

Negative Reviews:

Nice hat, but size is questionable

Normally I'm a medium, have my share of hats which fits, but this hat fits large. Lack of being able to adjust simply not acceptable.

Hat

This hat fits but is a just a little big for my small head. I am happy with the quality and price though. I would buy again

OR Radar Cap

The bill is "stylishly" short instead of "practical" long. Really needs another inch or so like the Radar Sun Visor. Outdoor Research should know better.
Richard at Campmor on 06/06/2011

Try not to sweat !

Great for wind, sun, and mist! Love the larger size !!Sweat band is marginal - does little to soak up perspiration.
