Big hat for a little guy

The hat has a lot of well thought out details like the light weight UPF fabric, the stiff brim for maximum shade, the adjustable elastic around the head, and the chin strap that keeps in in place even when it is windy. The chin strap is safe for a toddler to wear because it has an emergency break away, which is sometimes difficult to find in larger kids hats.

The stiff brim does cause it to slide forward when it is worn with a PFD but we found that if the chin strap is worn behind the head this helps stop it from sliding forward. The brim of the hat can also be flipped up if needed.

Because the hat is adjustable, we bought a larger size and hope to get many years of use out of it for our little guy. OR stuff wears like iron so I think it was money well spent!

I bought this adorable hat for my 4-mo-old son. I love the fact that it has a chin strap as other hats tend to fly off his little head or fall from side-to-side. The external drawcord in the back of the hat helps provide a snug fit as well. My son's head circ. is 17.5 in, so I went w/a size small (1-3 yrs). It fits fine w/the external drawcord and will give him room to grow. The only thing I don't like about the hat is that the brim gets a little bent out-of-shape due to the heavier material it's made of. Not a big deal obviously. It's a great hat! I also appreciated the service/delivery as it was quick and easy.

Not just for kids!!

Great summer hat and not just for kids! I am a female in my early 40s with a small head and this fits me beautifully. It is so nice and thin that a kids size Med fits perfectly(for comparison, my new OR Solar Roller hat is a Women's Size S). It is nice and thin, yet keeps its shape pretty well. It is cool enough to wear in NYC in the summer and can handle a heavy NYC summer rain shower. It casts a nice shade, covering the neck (I purchased this primarily to protect a fresh surgical scar on my neck - and it is perfect for it). Would also be great for warm/hot summer hiking, paddling, travel and similar activities.

wonderful sun protection

I bought this hat in both colors for my grandkids, boy & girl, for a recent vacation. They wore them w/o complaint & even enjoyed the shade they provided. They were worn while digging in the dirt at Crater of Diamonds & got quite dirty. Later, they only needed a little wiping w/a damp rag to clean them. The hats also went canoing; the adjustable fit & chin strap made it easy to keep the hats in place in the wind & to toss off w/o worrying about losing them. I don't know if they float since the kids never lost them on the water, & I didn't think to test that.

My husband bought one of these for my 4-year-old daughter and we've loved it so much I just bought another one for my 2-year-old son. The hat he had been using (made of cotton) was too hot and caused his head to get very sweaty. This hat is so lightweight that it is much cooler and I would imagine also more comfortable. The adjustable drawstrings (both on the chinstrap and around head circumference) make for a snug fit...stays on even when fairly windy. It provides great sun protection. It's light weight means it also dries fast which is nice when they wear the hats in the water.

This hat is lightweight, folds to fit in a backpack and it's wide brim provides great coverage for little faces, ears, necks (and shoulders in my 4 year old daughter's case). I bought this hat- one each for my whole family when my daughter started asking to wear mine! Kid's size Large is the same as Womens size Medium. For our family one size works for all. I definitely recommend this hat!

Youth hats.

My only concern was with the lack of a sizing chart for the hats by the company OR. I was trying to purchase a hat for my 3yr old who has a big head, 19in around, and was hoping that they would have a chart in inches. I ended up ordering two sizes to see which one would fit.Other wise great hat.

A good little sun hat!

This hat has a nice wide brim, is lightweight and comfortable, and is doing a great job of keeping the sun off the face of my fair-skinned, freckle-faced girl. Sizes run larger than ages suggested; measure your child's head for best fit.

I am an adult with a small head so bought a small first ( too small) then bought a medium which is perfect! Nice and lightweight and provides excellent cover both for front of face and back of neck. Would recommend.

Love this hat.

This hat was great. Everywhere from Ghana to safaris in South Africa to the Amazon. It held up--through wind, rain and intense sun--and it washed great. It kept the sun off my face and neck.

Negative Reviews:

I first ordered the Youth size L for myself (I have a small head) but had to exchange it as it was too large. Got the M and am keeping it, but it is STILL actually way too large! The measurements for the hat are not true to size. I measure 20 1/2 around my head, and accordingly, the M should have fit. So now I pull the sizer on the hat to make it fit right, and the brim is all out of whack--curly and wavy. But I needed it, so I'm keeping it.
