Cover ground quickly in the backcountry or blast through a bushwhack approach with the Outdoor Research Verglas gaiters. They are designed to move fast and carry light.

Cover ground quickly in the backcountry, cruise on skis, kick steps up a snowfinger, or blast through a long bushwhack approach; this gaiter is designed to move fast and carry light. An ultralight, waterproof/breathable, 3-layer 50D Ventia™ leg section, matched with a coated 500D Cordura® boot section makes this gaiter a more pack-friendly alternative to the Crocodiles®. The asymetrically cut boot section provides a secure fit with leather hiking boots or plastic mountaineering boots. A nylon-supported rubber instep strap keeps the gaiter flush with your boot, sealing out snow. The 1 1/2-inch wide hook and loop front closure can be offset to make room for insulated pants.

Safety in the mountains involves moving quickly over varied and difficult terrain. Outdoor Research designed the Women's Verglas Gaiters to carry light and travel fast. Whether you're kicking steps up a fragile snow finger, skinning across a glacier, or negotiating a hairy bushwhack, you can't afford to snag, rip, or be bogged down. Designed specifically for women, these gaiters feature increased volume in the calf and a shorter overall length. The asymmetrically-cut boot section provides a secure fit with leather or plastic boots, making the Verglas a functional, stout, backpacking gaiter as much as it is a serious mountaineering gaiter. The ultra-light, waterproof, breathable 3-layer Ventia leg section and the coated 500d Cordura boot section make this gaiter a more packable alternative to the OR Crocodiles. A nylon-supported rubber instep strap pulls the gaiter down and flush with your boot to seal out snow and debris. Offset the 1.5in-wide hook-and-loop front closure if you need to make room for insulated pants.

If you’ve ever thought about trimming a few ounces off your Crocs these are the gaiters for you. They’re designed to be lighter and more packable, with the same fit and performance of the originals.

A great light option for warm weather.

| I have used these gaiters for the most part in Australia. During summer wearing long pants is not an option but wearing just boots and socks will not get you far because of spear grasses and other things that will just get into your boots or socks and then eventually force you to stop to pick them out. These not only effectively stop anything getting into your boots, but protects the lower leg from getting beat up by low brush like lantana. I don't go bushwalking without them anymore regardless of the season. They also provide a really snug fit around the boot which is critical in aiding the waterproofness. My foot slipped of a rock and into a creek a little under a foot deep. Without the gaiters I would have had soggy walk and probable blisters by the end of the day. But with them the water barely had the chance to get to the top of my socks from the gap between the gaiter and the boot. Dry feet! Yesss! And because they are heavy where they need to be (around the ankles and right up the middle to the top) and lighter around the rest, you won't sweat as much. The top strap works well and effectively and has never accidentally come undone. It is needed however since it won't stand up fully by itself due to the light weight material. Bottom line is that these gaiters work perfectly, feel great, are unobtrusive and represent great value. | |

Good gaiter but runs wide.

| I purchased this because it looked sturdy and well made. It was, but with a slight drawback for me. The material and workmanship is excellent. The design was sleek and the adjustable bottom strap kept the gaiter snug to my boots. The bottom strap to my boot size felt true to size. BUT - the top closure (that goes around the calf) can only close so far with the buckle. I say, a inch or so. I have thinner legs and it wouldnt pull snug. I was expecting something that could be fully adjusted, not just an inch in. Maybe a drawstring cord or velcro tab pull would be good. Needless to say I returned it and must continue to search. Those of you with fuller calf areas might not have this problem. Construction, design, and material was excellent. If it wasnt for the closure I would have kept them. I would recommend these, but with caution to skinnier folks. | |

Great, durable all-purpose gaiter
| Rating: | ![]() |
| These are a great gaiter that I have used several times per week for nearly 2 years. Only recently have they developed a couple of small rips in the nylon and the lace hooks have bent. The fastening device at the top of the sleeve can be somewhat finicky and hard to adjust with gloves on. These gaiters keep water, rocks, and snow out of your boots without overheating. I avoided a goretex gaiter, not wanting the extra laminate layer. As a result they aren't 100% waterproof (obviously), but still go a good job at keeping the boots dry if you slip during a stream crossing or during a downpour. I've uses these primarily to keep rocks, rain and poison oak from getting under my pant legs and they have served that purpose well. If you're looking for an all-purpose all-weather. These are highly recommended. | |

Seem to Run a Little Big | |

According to the size chart, I should take a medium (I wear an 8 shoe), but it was WAY too big. I had to return the medium and get a small. The small fits great on my bare legs, hiking pants, and insulated snow pants. I think I have an average size calf. I like that the instep strap has a buckle (rather than a string you tie) so it's easy to adjust them to use with different shoes. I've only used these a few times so far, but am happy with them and would buy them again.

carry light and travel fast...

I take good care of my gear, but also play a little rough and these have held up nicely. I use them for ice climbing and mountaineering. They're perfect for the lightweight fanatic and durable enough for moderate adventuring. They only thing they are lacking is a replaceable instep strap, but if you added that it would compromise their light weight. I found them true to size and female specific. I love 'em.

This gaiter has bite! | |

Easy to put on, easy to adjust, and good-looking, too, these gaiters are the perfect upgrade to the baggy velcro balloons I used over the past 15 years. Fitted to my foot and leg in several places, the gaiters fit divinely and protect throughout the worst kind of wet snow. I had no seepage whatsoever after a 2 hour ski through a heavy snow (though perhaps if I'd stood there for an hour...) The gaiters hold in a reasonable amount of warmth and also block out the wind. Once again - great product, OR.

| These are great! They fit really well, not to tight, and not to loose. I wear an 8-81/2 boot and got the small. They pack up really small and light too. This is a step down from the crocodile version, but unless your hicking for 2+ months at a time, I don't think you need to go all out. I can't wait to take these to Alaska on my NOLS trip! PS. go with the strap bottom rather than the chord. It'll last alot longer. | |

| I was happy to learn such a product exists! Otherwise, I was ready to invent it. During a long hike that became no fun due to the pain from foxtails, burrs, and other annoying weeds penetrating my socks and hiking boots, I decided I'd had enough. So, after minimal research, I found what I was looking for. Now I'm ready to hike, where ever and whenever I want. Thanks for the great selection! | |

| They're very durable, but I've only been able to use them once this year- and I live in MT. They did a great job keeping my legs warm and dry. The only issue I had was with FedEx- who delivered them to the neighbor instead of me (it was a nightmare). Wish Altrec would go through UPS instead, but their service was AWESOME- so I'll keep using them too. | |

| So far, so good. These have survived their first trip to the Smokies without falling apart. Was a little worried when I got them, that they wouldn't fit. Monster calves run in the family. What fits your shoe size, may not always fit calf size. But no worries, a little snug with two layers on, but they fit just fine. Good sturdy materials, velcro holding up so far. | |

Gaiters, or not. | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
These gaiters were adequate, but would have faired better if the sole strap material were of the same durable quality as the upper. For the price, one could probably not do much better, but to be honest, the chincy sole straps are not expected to last under moderate use. Tight for big calved wearers.
