A good dolly for the price

The overall construction design is good with a couple of faults. The bolts are metric stainless steel. The washers that retain the wheels were bent on my unit. These needed to be flattened in order to work. The dolly comes with a 1-7/8" ball that has a 3/4" shaft. You may buy a 2" replacement for this ball but be sure to get the 3/4" shaft.

The biggest design fault involves the handle attachement to the frame parts. Two bolts attach the hollow-shaft handle to this frame. The upper bolt goes through the thick skid and this helps to prevent the hollow handle shaft from crushing when tightening the nut. The lower bolt should be threaded through the lock washer and nut when these are located inside of the handle. This will lock the handle securely to the frame. Such nut may be securely tightened without any possibillity of crushing the handle. You may then add the usual nut and lockwasher to the outside of the handle but you will need to buy this nut and lockwasher separately. Remember, this is a stainless steel M10-1.5 bolt. Don't overtighten this nut and distort the handle. You could add another nut inside of the handle and behind this nut. This will eliminate the possibility of crushing the handle. I didn't find this necessary as the nut previously installed inside of the handle [above] will do the job. See attached drawing for details.

Otherwise this is a good dolly for the price with free shipping. The wheels are 12" and provide good traction.

Performs beyond its advertising

This dolly has an attractive design to it and I have used it to move a 17-1/2 Ft fiberglass boat with a 150 HP motor on it. I was doing this on an asphalt surface but could move the boat by myself. This took a moderate amount of effort because of a slight uphill incline. I also have used this dolly on a 10 ft x 5 ft open motorcycle trailer with a loaded tool box mounted on the tongue and was able to move it easily by myself. I would highly recommend this product to any one who has to occasionally move a boat or cargo trailer by hand. It really reduced the amount of effort I had to expend to get the job done. One of my neighbors has already used my dolly and he wanted to buy it from me.

My breaking back

This product was put together in less than 15 minutes. I still had to go to the store to purchase a 2" ball. I wish it were 3-4" taller because it sits so low to the ground. With a spotter, you can place the boat where ever it wil fit. It is a back-breaking saver for those of us that know the correct way to lift. Useing your legs to lift is impossible. You must use your back to lift on and off. That's the naturre of lifting a boat. I highly recomend it for all boat owners. I have used it 5 times and am glad I purchased it. Great product.

Moving a Pop Up Trailer

I purchased this product to move a 10 ft. pop up camper. I store the camper on the side of my garage.(lawn surface) For years I have struggled trying to manuver the camer in place using my tow vehicle. This year I used this dolly and it was a much easier chore. The dolly made it much easier to manuver the camper exactly where I wanted it. It did require two men to move the camper, one to supply power and one to stear the dolly. This cannot be done by one person alone. Three would have been ideal.

Heavy-Duty Trailer Dolly

We had a new pad put in next to the house for our boat. There is about 6" on each side to get the boat in. Using this dolly, we easily manuvered the boat back onto the pad. If you are on an incline though, best have some extra help.

Pulling out to hook to the truck was extremely easy and the dolly allowed for very easy manuvering. Only one person required for flat or on a downward incline.

For the money, well worth the cost.

Recommend this Product!

Assembly took some time due to the directions only providing a picture. Difficult to tell the location of parts. I went online and pulled up a good picture of the unit and from there it was easy. Other than this...this item is great and very useful. Where my boat is stores is hard to back into...so this hand truck has made it easy to put the boat away after a day of boating! I would recommend this product to anyone with a small boat or trailer.

Good Buy

I used the dolly to move a 22 ft. pontoon with a 70 HP motor. The pontoon and trailer are 32 ft in length and stuck out of my garage by about 1 ft. I needed the dolly to angle the trailer and get it to fit in the garage. Pulls the trailer straight with no problem but turning a tandem axle trailer in tight quarters took some effort. Bottom line...it saved me from modifying the trailer or paying for storage!

Good product with quality components

Use this dolly to transfer the boat into my garage. My driveway is complicated and this dolly helps me finish off the transition from vehicle to garage storage. I have a 20' Four Winns around 3,500 lb + 1,000 lb trailer. I would say I am putting this dolly to the max in terms of capability. Would be helpful to have a higher ball (1-2" higher) to transfer some weight off the dolly and back onto the trailer wheels.

Trailer Dolly back/knee saver

This Heavy Duty Dolly has made it a lot easier to pull my trailer out of its enclosed storage garage. My boat on the trailer weighs about 2,500 lbs (Donzi Sweet 16). I was always using just the swing down trailer jack to move it. This hurt my knees and I was afraid of hurting my back. Now, with this dolly, I just wheel the trailer and boat out and push it back in. Great product.

Wow Perfect for boat storage at home

I wish we had this the first time we tried to move our 22 Macgregor into our backyard. It's easy to use and strong. It moves easily and it turn on a dime. Great for moving a boat over grass in a level backyard. I wish the handle was wider for a wider grip or if two people are pushing/pulling the dolly. Great item at a Great price!

Negative Reviews:

Doesn't work very well

The concept is appealing, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The ball location on the dolly is too low. It requires that you lower the boat jack every time you use it and then raise it again to connect to your vehicle. You have to be very careful not to get it over-center (handle too high). If you do, there is a real risk that the handle will flip up and the trailer tongue will fall to the floor. This happened to me. Make sure to leave your jack in the lowered position to catch the tongue in case this happens. Strongly built, just needs some modifications to be really useful.

Poor Quality & Damaged Paint

I needed this product to move a jet ski and boat immediately. Unfortunately it arrived with a damaged box and the paint was chipped in several locations. Very Poor Packaging! The instructions were terrible - Couldn't identify which bolts went where except to try them to see if they fit. Once assembled, the wheels bound up, had excessive wobble, and a bulged tire. I may send it back, however, I need to use it soon.

Need Motorized Dolly

I will be sending product back as I have to exert to much energy to get my bass boat into the garage. I will buy a motorized dolly as I get older I do not want to worry about a stroke. If you have any driveway with incline this dolly does not work well.

Neutral Reviews:

Good value for the price

The two piece handle design is poorly engineered and its alignment slips. The "V" mounting for the Ball Hitch needs to be another six inches higher due to once you lift the tongue the wheels hit the trailer when trying to turn at a ninety degree angle.
Other than those two short comings the device is an excellent piece of equipment. It certainly achieves its basic design objectives.

Great Dolly for Smaller Trailers

I use the dolly to reposition my boat in my yard. Easy to assemble. Would be helpfull to have a higher ball position by 2 to 4 inches to keep the weight towards the back of the trailer, maybe larger tires and a wider handle to allow 2 people to power it if needed. I plan to redo this dolly.
Fish Farmer at Gander Mountain on 10/10/2011

It has helped some what.

The Dolly is not the help for me as I thought it would be.I feel it would work better on smaller boats.
