best synthetic briefs

I started using synthetic briefs for hiking and backpacking for the same reasons i wear merino wool or synthetic shirts/base-layers.
I have been wearing exoffico's for years and recently decided to buy enough briefs to use for everyday wear as well. The Exofficios are good but I was intrigued by the no seam and lighter material design by Patagonia so I bought a few to try them out.
I prefer these much more then Exoffico .. the fabric is smoother and feels better on my skin and they are more comfortable when sitting. The waistband is not stiff like other briefs but that also makes them more comfortable. I have tried them while hiked and seating in an office chair all day and I am really satisfied with them. I like that the waist is taller so they work well with hipbelts or wearing casual work pants .. i tried some mid-rise and low-rise briefs and the waistband was in the wrong place for using with a hipbelt

For somebody that usually goes "commando", I really like wearing this pair of underwear.

The material of the underwear feels a lot like the Capilene 1 fabric used in other Patagonia clothing(which is also great). The waistband is very thin and blends in with the rest of the underwear, making it very comfortable. The fit is a little high, almost like granny panties, and that would be my only complaint. The overall feel is very sexy (bonus points for black); I am wearing them right now and I can hardly notice. I usually go "commando", but breaking my no underwear habbit to wear these is a nice little change. I bought them on sale just to try them out, and if I find them at a good price again I will buy more.

Nice!!!

After testing hundreds of different styles, fabrics and manufacturers, I have finally found a pait of underwear that I can be comfortable in all day. I have to say that these are the most comfortable, best fitting underwear I have ever worn. Wash in warm water and throw them in the dryer and they won't fit like "granny panties". I have put these through the ringer ever since I got them 2 weeks ago. They have gone on 10 hikes, 7 runs and 2 wildland fires and so far they are indestructable. Pricey but well worth it to be cool, dry and chafe free. I will be ordering more of these for sure.

Great for Intended Use

I give these five stars, as they are great for their intended use. If you are looking for something for everyday or general purpose wear, go for the Capilene 2 Lightweight Briefs. If you are looking for something for running, biking, or any other activity, these are what you want. When I first tried them on, I thought the fit was awkward and did not particularly like them. When I used them for trail running, I found the perfect active brief. There are absolutely no chafe points on these. Other active briefs have claimed it, but were not entirely successful in the field. These really are chafe-free.

After 35 miles, they still treat the boys right!

Use these as my go to trailrunning undies....highly breathable, dry pretty quick and the seamless design is nice after that 30 mile mark! The only issue I have with them is how "high waisted" they are, but have just learned to flip the waist over once and they are brilliant! If you run distances and are looking for a breathable, comfortable, easy wash on long trips (soap and water) brief, then go with these!

They truly rawk the rocks.

Unfortunately, I bought these elsewhere on a whim and on sale. However, had I known of their superior powers of keeping the jewels cool, dry and comfortable, I would have gladly purchased them from Moosejaw at any price. My girlfriend is beginning to insist that I take them off to at least wash them, but these are truly th most comfortable pair of briefs I've owned since my superman underroos. She never understands me.

Best Running Underwear I've Ever Worn

Almost $30 seems like a lot of money to spend on a single pair of underwear. Or, so I thought. Owning a few pairs of the Active Sport Brief is arguably some of the best money I've ever spent. Without getting too into the particulars, I've tried many different varieties of underwear for use while running, and these are hands down the best pair of running underwear I've ever owned.

Comfort plus

I needed something to stay dry against my skin as I sweat more than average, When I first tried them on I thought the waistband was too high but after wearing them I realised they fit well under a rucksac hipbelt and do not work their way down when active, So comfortable and cool I actually stopped once to see if I had remembered to put underwear on
Moondog55 at Patagonia on 01/12/2013

Great Minimalist Support

Under R1 or Cap 1 Bottoms or compression tights for running these are fantastic for keeping package secure and wicked dry. I own three pair, and wash each after each use and either dry in dryer, near woodstove, or on outside line. No problem for me with any dry time, given rotation and drying options. Dig the "forget they are on" fit!

COMFORT and SUPPORT

A very comfortable and stylish sport brief, which is comfortable enough to wear as an everyday brief. Provides excellent suppport and the breathable fabric keeps moisture from building up during activities. Price is a little higher than I would like, but briefs are very high quality and well made. Very satisfied with this purchase.

Negative Reviews:

this product is the pits

A few years back Patagonia stopped stitching in a traditional elastic waistband and started fabricating the feature by extending the fabric itself. This results in the top of the brief rolling up during wear. I contacted the Patagonia return department and the person I talked to said they hated this feature too and wouldn't buy this product either. Why does this fine company continue to produce an inferior product? This inferior feature must work for some people... I am sure it is cheaper to produce.

Wedgie Brief

Patagonia probably makes the best clothes I know. I also think their products are worth every penny I've paid--with the exception of these briefs. Maybe it's my shape (well tuned gluts) or just the cut of these things, but I was continually fighting wedgies...yep...it's humbling to admit. The fabric is great! but they seem to be cut too high on the waist and have this tendency to scoot up. I have to return them. I'm glad they work for most--wish they did for me.
Anonymous at Patagonia on 01/24/2011

Marginal

Purchased especially for a long hike in Peru. In the high dry Andes these briefs took forever to dry. They were still quiet wet the next day and didn't compete with the competition.
Josie at Patagonia on 08/03/2009

Horrible fitting

These underwear are made of a great material, but they seem like they are cut for a for a Grama. Would not recommend or buy until they lower the waistband.
SonnyO at Patagonia on 01/07/2012

Not the best product

The waist band is very poorly designed. I'm using these to clean my car windows as they aren't wearable.

Never Again

Can't keep these undies from riding up. Patagonia boxer briefs = perfection.

poor fit

Would you please make some capilene briefs that don't fit like a diaper? The waistline is too high; a "low-rise" version would be a good alternative.
