Comfortable, anticipate excellent drying.

| As someone who has worn standard white cotton briefs for as long as he can remember, switching over to polyester underpants was the very last step in my transformation to backpacking light. In the interest of wearing fast-drying underpants that could also double as ad hoc swim shorts, I began trying various brands of dark colored polyester underpants. I'm certain I'm not alone in the belief that there's no article of clothing more difficult to fit than a pair of underpants. Most men probably find a comfortable brand and then stick with it given the difficulty or should I say the impossibility of "trying on" underpants. Last summer, I bought some Patagonia briefs but found them too tight. Last month, I purchased three styles for comparison: Patagonia Active Boxer Brief, Patagonia Active Sport Boxer Brief, and Mountain Hardware eXtend Featherweight Boxer. The first I bound perfect and almost as comfortable as my standard cotton briefs; the second, I found nice and stretchy but too constricting; the third, which I had hoped would be my favorite (because I've long loved the tops of the same material, I found comfortable except for the waist band which oddly was too loose, leading to an unpleasant sense of slippage). My new standard, then, will be the Patagonia Active Boxer Brief. | |

Very comfortable... | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I work outdoors and wear these (or similar) every day under my uniform. I never know how far I'll be walking or what I will be doing, so I have to dress for the elements every day. I have tried the REI MTS's, and they are comfortable, but don't last long. The Under Armour seem to generate a certain disagreeable odor. This time I bought a pair of these (which I love so far) and a pair of TNF XTCs (putting a review under those, as well). The Patagonias are very comfortable, breatheable, and don't seem to ride up as some others are prone to do under a pair of uniform pants that have been designed by a person who has obviously never had to wear them. I can't attest to longevity, as I've only been wearing them for 2 weeks...maybe a followup later. | |

The essence of comfort.
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I have to say, I was somewhat doubtful of all these glowing reviews of a basic pair of briefs. When they arrived in the mail I noted that the fabric closely resembled the Capilene 2 fabric but they didn't really seem to be "all that." Then I went for a 6-mile hike in 90 degree weather during a 3-day camping trip. Wow. The comfort is second-to-none. I had previously been very happy with an older pair of Patagonia boxers that are similar to the Capilene 1, and also with a couple pair of Under Armor briefs. I still like the others, but these Active Boxer Briefs are now my favorite in terms of overall comfort, moisture management, and odor control. I wish they were less expensive, but I'll probably be buying a couple more pair anyway. | |

"Iraq Proven" | |

| I will say they are by far the best type of boxer briefs I have ever bought. I have been in Iraq for the better part of the year now and it gets HOT, and my goodies stay well wicked when the temp stays up. I came over with 5 pairs of these and 3 pair of the Ex Officio boxer brief and I like these more than the Officios, it could just be because they are Patagucci or it could because they are bomb packaging for the package. All joking aside, these are awesome. I wear them everyday just about, wearing a pair of black ones right now, and I love them. I hate that they are 30.00 a pair, but you can't put a price on comfort, esp over here. | |

| I have 6 pairs of these. I bought 4 a year and a half ago. After about 9 months I began to notice holes developing in the groin area. They came from normal wearing. I guess my legs are thick. Nonetheless, I sent them to Patagonia and asked them to replace them. They did promptly and without cost to me. The reason I rate them a 4 (good) instead of a 3 (average) is because they are very comfortable, thus the reason why I ordered 2 extra when I exchanged them. They dry out easily, don't hold moisture, and keep me comfortable 'down there' all day long. Patagonia should reinforce the areas of them where they get a lot of friction. Aside from that, they're a great product. | |

The Patagonia Active Boxer Briefs are absolutely The Best. The fit is incredibly comfortable and ultra lightweight. This (Capilene 2?) is warm yet cool, soft and stretches with your moves. These are boxers that you'll wear year-rond. They are also just phenomenal for trail running. If you have Capilene 1 or Capilene silkweight boxers you know that these may be washed in a bathroom sink, hang to dry, and are ready to wear in a very short time. Unlike the Capilene boxers, these will not ride-up. There is no excessive fabric to bunch-up under your trousers. Bottom Line: hands-down the best. The search is over.

| I bought these originally for travel, but find them so comfortable I wear them pretty much all the time now. I have several going back 2 years. One new pair has an annoying habit of folding the waistband in half, the other 2 new pairs don't seem to do that. No idea why. Fabric is still comfortable after many washings. Fit is still good; one pair bagged out a little, but not a problem. Very quick-drying if you dunk, or have to do laundry in a sink or stream. I hope Patagonia never stops making these. | |

| The Patagonia Active Boxer Briefs are absolutely The Best, so light and dare I say.....Sexy, yes my wife loves them too:-0 Great in the Las Vegas heat and so easy to dry, they do not ride up and no chaffing in the nether regions if you know what I mean. The price is a little on the higher side compared to other makes out there, but for what you get they are well worth it. I loved them so much I have thrown out my Calvin Kleins and replaced them with these undies. | |

| After shredding a few pairs of REI Midweight MTS Boxers, I decided to give Patagonia's a try. I've been thoroughly impressed thus far by their breathability and even more so, their durability. While not as soft and comfortable material as the MTS, they do the job they were intended for under heavy use. I usually wear them to play soccer, so they withstand some tough conditions. Other than that, the fit is good with plenty of stretch and they stay put. I'd recommend them for anyone looking for highly breathable first layer. | |

Not what they used to be...
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I love capilene. I'm always hot and it helps keep me cool. But I have to say, these boxers are not what they used to be. They get holes easier. The parts around your thighs never stay tight for long, and as such end up getting all types of uncomfortable wedge. I remember buying pairs 4-5 years ago (that I still have) that are much better. They are in better shape, fit better, and have no holes. The old ones just hold up better. For what it's worth, I've had the same experience with my long sleeve baselayer capilene tops. Small holes, and while they certainly breathe better there are downsides. I still only buy these because I can't imagine anything being better than capilene (and going back to cotton is not an option), but I hope someone from patagonia is reading this. You guys make amazing stuff, but the constant tinkering with products can have it's downsides too. Sometimes great products become not-so-great. | |

Do you like wearing a thong?
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Bought two of these because the REI brand stretch mesh boxer briefs were awful (not the stretch mesh BOXERS, those are still brilliant). First thing you notice about the Patagonias is the way in which the seam rides up. Sorry, if I wanted a thong, I'd a bought a thong. Second, of the two pair, one wore out in the crotch after less than three months (seems the seams in jeans are too much to take). Last, the surviving pair have taken to not staying put on my legs meaning that in a short stroll recently, they bunched up and then began the chafing. Pass on these, move over to the REI Stretch Mesh Boxers (again, NOT the Boxer Briefs) you will get better coverage and support with no thong-seam. I've got several pair that are over two years old and still hold up to daily wear. | |

New - not improved. | |

| I have been buying Patagonia drawers for more than 5 years. I can say with certainty, that the change that was made to this garment a few years ago was a significant down-grade. The material is lighter, the fit is baggier, and they consistently rip at the same exact spot. My underwear from five years ago still looks new, but all my new pairs are ready to be recycled. They still move moisture well, so they are better than simple cotton boxers from the big-box store in the 'burbs. But consider this a short-term investment, and try to avoid getting a wedgie while in a far away place - they'll rip in half. (Not that I would know.) | |

| Love my Active Classic Boxers but disappointed by Active Classic Boxer Briefs. I picked up three pairs of Boxer Briefs for travel, camping, bike commute and softball. They wicked moisture well, dried quickly after washing and are definitely lighter than boxers and my UnderArmour, REI MTS and Wickers boxer briefs. The Boxer Briefs don't get as clammy or hold odor like Ex Officio boxer briefs. I also appreciate that the Boxer Briefs are made from recycled materials. But, the Active Classic Boxer Briefs rode up more than my other shorts and, occasionally, they rubbed uncomfortably where they should not have. | |

| I have worn Patagonia boxers for more than 10 years, and they work great. I wish I could say the same about the Active Boxer Briefs. They don't fit well in the thigh, constantly ride up, and are nowhere near as functional as the regular boxers. I even went up a size from my regular, but they still don't fit properly in the legs. If you have any kind of upper leg development, stick with the regular boxers. | |

| They are scratchy. Go with the Ex-officios, they are cheaper and much softer. The underarmor do a better job at wicking away moisture. You are paying for nothing other than the name on these. This is a polyester mesh, not a fabric. I don't believe what is pictured is the product, because if it was, you could see the mans junk. | |

| I love Patagonia products and ideology. I've been on a lifelong search for the perfect boxer brief, including flirtations with Duofold, CK, Polo, and Patagonia. When I first bought the Patagonia boxer briefs, I knew my search had ended. BUT, I had a very strange thing happen with the second batch of Patagonia boxer briefs I purchased. I bought 5 more boxer briefs recently, and in less than 6 months I had holes in the backs of all of them. The holes have grown larger, to the point where I probably need to throw them in the trash. I love the comfort of the Patagonia boxer briefs so much that I'll probably buy another batch, and I'll hope that the quality issues were anomalies. | |

| This patagonia baselayer fits well, breathes well, and looks stylish. I am generally a fan of patagonia's craftmanship, and they've put together a solid piece here. However, the main drawback is that the Capilene material does retain odors fairly quickly. If you are looking for a pair of underwear to take for a long, strenuous backpacking trip, or any trip where you're away from laundry, then I would highly suggest the Ex Officio boxer briefs instead. They basically cost the same, also look good, but maintain their "freshness" for a much longer period. | |

Feels Good, But Iffy Quality

| These boxers are very comfortable, and they especially feel good when I am exercising (unlike cotton boxer briefs!). My big concern, though, is that I have had to return them twice, because they got a hole in the lower crotch area within six months. The reason I would still recommend them is that Patagonia truly does stand behind their products. Both times, they have exchanged the defective pairs for new ones without any hassles. | |

| I have three pairs of these, primarily used for athletics/outdoors. They are definitely better than cotton, but under-perform for the price.Pros:They breathe and wick exceptionally well, and do a moderate job of cutting odor. They're also lightweight and provide good support.Cons: The biggest con is the material is not durable; one pair already has a dime-sized hole. They also tend to ride up, especially in the back.At $[$]a piece, I expected more. | |
