The Bucket Hat

I need a lot of sun protection for outdoor activities so I have a good collection of hats, including an OR sunhat, the Patagonia Beach Bucket, and now both my wife and I have Patagonia Bucket Hats. The OR hat was good for protection but not very stylish so I ordered a Beach Bucket thinking I would need the chin strap and wider brim.
I liked the Beach Bucket a lot and my wife was interested in a Patagonia sunhat but wanted the slightly smaller Bucket Hat. So I ordered my wife a regular Bucket Hat and when it arrived I liked the smaller size so much that I went down to my local outfitter and bought one for myself. It is now my everyday hat for gardening, hiking, running, and other outdoor activities.
I used it last week during our annual Outer Banks family reunion/beach trip and I prefer it to the Beach Bucket because of the smaller size. I wore it running in a light rain and the rain did not penetrate the hat. It's just the perfect all-around hat for me.
The Bucket Hat is extremely light, water repellent, and folds to a small size that can easily be stuffed in your pocket.
My wife and I plan to walk El Camino de Santiago in September and we'll both use our Bucket Hats every day for sun protection.

Keep the sun out

I was looking for a beach hat that would be light enough to keep me from over heating but also keep the sun out of my eyes; this did a great job. The only issue I have with it is that the brim is very floppy and doesn't tend to hold its shape as well as I might like though this is a small issue compared to how packable and comfortable the hat it. This is a hat I'll wear very often

Function AND fashion...

I really like this hat - it keeps the sun off my face and neck on hikes, at the beach, and just gardening, too. It's very lightweight and breathes. The only issue I have is that I ordered a M and it's a tiny bit too big, so it blows off in a really stiff wind. I think that the S would've been too snug, though, so I had to order up.

Great summer hat

I added a chin strap that is flexible. I paddle and the winds can blow pretty good at times. Dries super fast and gives good coverage.

bucket hat

Great for hot golf in Texas. More shade than the standard truckers cap and a lot cooler and lighter.

Negative Reviews:

Close but...

Sizing is off. In measuring my head I'm at the upper end of the medium but the hat is big. Going to need to try and order the small to see if it fits. Another reviewer mentioned the brim as an issue and indeed it is a little funky. It's a weird combination of stiffness and floppiness. It will take a bit of getting used to. I'm going to try it and see if it ends up as something I can deal with.

hats

I previously purchased a broader brim hat in a large and it was too big. I bought a bucket hat and it was too small. I must have an in between head. And, one the brim was too large and the bucket too small. So, I purchased a cheap straw hat locally. Baseball style patagonia hats I do like and being adjustable, they fit my 'tweener head.

Neutral Reviews:

Large isn't quite "large enough"

Hat is definitely cool. I just wish the sizing was better.
