I have worn PATAGONIA BAGGIES for all activities: running, exercise, white water, etc....
BUT, especially LOVE them for tennis! They are lightweight, non binding, AND the pockets each hold 3 - 4 balls for serve practice and warm-up. Love the patterns- they are so darned cute and the black makes a superb competition outfit... serious tourney uniform!! I have a drawer full as does my husband. They also last forever but I always MUST have the new prints & colors!
Baggies are a staple for me. I had one pair for 10+ years, split the back seam and sent them to Patagonia to repair - I was more than willing to pay for it - and they sent me a brand new pair!!! Love dealing with reliable companies like this!! The fabric in the newer shorts may not feel as durable as the older fabric, but I've had no issues with them. They really are great shorts!
Running in these would be my least favorite use for them, although it certainly can be done. Tennis, hiking, rafting, gardening, hanging out around town...These shorts are great for everything and look nicer than many other shorts. One word of caution - Patagonia does has changed the style of these. I happen to like the current style best as the elastic is looser and there is a more relaxed feel to the fabric.
I had two pair of these shorts for 15 years. The shorts never wore out, although the elastic in the waist finally did. I still wore them using the drawstring though. I finally decided to get some new ones, and the new style/cut is much improved over the old ones from the 90's. These are great for running, hiking, kayaking and other water sports, or just hanging out. Highly recommended.
I have actually had several pairs of these shorts over the years because I get them for cheap through my work. They dry quickly, are durable, and are pretty comfortable. That being said, they are not a good material for running because the material is a little thick and stiff. I wear mine on the river, but only for paddle boating. They have front pockets that I have (many many times) caught my oar handles in the pocket when I'm pulling. I'm not that impressed with this Patagonia product, but it's a classic and if you can get it on sale, it's not terrible.
Granted I had really high hopes for these, i was really disappointed when I received them. Why exactly are they $50?? They don't seem like magical shorts or anything really special. The fabric seems like any other board short. The cut is not flattering, it's quite boxy. Not impressed!
