great 3 season beanie

My head gets cold and I have purchased many beanies over the years. For fall, spring and winter activities, I had been wearing either a MH fleece or a SW wool beanie. The problem with the SW is that once soaked with sweat, it takes more then 1 day to dry out and while wool still retains some warmth, having a soaked beanie on my semi-bald head when it is windy and below freezing makes me feel cold. The MH fleece beanie works better but is too thin for colder temps .. a better helmet liner and fall/spring use. I have worn my new P beanie hat on some windy and cold days and am quite happy with the effectiveness, fit and comfort. I wear a size 7-1/4 Tilley hat and the beanie hat just covers my ears so take heed of other reviewers statements about fit. As a comparison, I also wear the P speedway in really cold temps and that beanie is a little big (still love it) and the Cap 4 beanie covers my eyes! Now this beanie goes everywhere with me except running since I have a R1 hoody.

Perfect Hat

I have a 2009 version of this hat and it is by far my favorite and the most versatile one. First, the Classic Fitz Roy (Blue) is so distinct and colorful that I always reach for it. Thanks for redoing this hat in a similar design for 2010-2011. As to uses, it is the perfect weight for active hiking, skiing, walking, etc. It is not too warm, not too cool. For colder temps, I use the Lightweight Skiing Hat. As to fit, it is snug. I might prefer that it would be a bit larger. And mine was made in Canada, which is nice.

Great cap.

I was in 20º temps and bought the Patagonia beanie in logo bellway - forge gray at a local shop. I'm not a fan of the gigantic lettering but the quality, fit and insulation provided is great on my head (hat size 7 1/4). I really appreciate how it fits snugly over my ears to block the cold. I liked it so much that after returning home I called Moosejaw.com and ordered another one, in fitz roy line - black.I'm very happy with my caps and, as always, it's a pleasure to buy from Moosejaw.

it's a beanie

This beanie is really snug, but like a made for your head type of snug. It covers my ears perfectly and even goes pretty far down the back of my neck, covering my hairline, and stays there. It doesn't want to slide up and you're not constantly messing with the hat. In my subjective opinion, I have an average sized head. If i had a really big head, I think this beanie would be either too small or too tight. I love it though!

Warm and Comfy

Not much to say about this. It is stylish and very soft, and doesn't make my head itch like my other woolen beanies. I got the blue Fitz Roy one and I pretty much wear everyday because it can go with everything I wear. For running or other high exertion activities I tend to go with an ear warmer though because my head sweats like crazy. This hat is great for casual or low exertion activities with moderate winds down to 30 degrees.

Always a Classic

I purchased the Wyoming Pride version as a Wyoming native. Didn't need it, as my 8 year old Beanie Hat is still in great shape. But, it is a great addition to my winter set up and has been perfect. A Wind Stopper layer on the inside would make it a true Wyoming hat. As for fit, I do have a larger head and the hat fits without being tight. It is a one size fits all that actually fits all.

SOOO LEGIT!!!

I just got my beanie in the mail a couple of days ago, and I've already been wearing it. Its not even that cold but I'm wearing it anyways because it looks so good. I went with the Fitz Roy Lagoon color and it looks amazing. Also, it fits really well and covers my ears which is great for me because I have a huge noggin. This beanie is a great buy! GET IT!!

I like it and is one of my go to beanies, it doesn't get too warm, and if it is bitter cold and i am standing around would not be the best option, but for active use it is perfect for not being too heavy. Because it is not too thick it does not cut down on my hearing as some of my other ones do. Would buy again.

Just picked one of these up for an around-town beanie for Fall and Winter with a gift certificate I received. This beanie has a nice fit, and isn't too heavy or bulky. I live in Southern California, so the thick winter beanies can be too much unless you ski, which I don't. This is a nice three-season California beanie, and the fun patterns make them great for casual wear.

A Perfect Cap For The Noggin

This cap is super comfortable! It has multiple stitch seams across the top so it fits even around your head, not tighter in front and back than sides. It feels very soft, yet durable for outdoor use. It is large enough to pull over your head and cover your ears, not to baggy or tight like some. You wont regret this cold weather noggin warmer!

Negative Reviews:

Good, but not great.

I've been having a really tough time finding a hat that will fully cover my ears from the cold winters. After reading a few of the reviews, I thought I had found the one hat that may fit the bill. However, it fell short of my expectations. It isn't large enough to fully cover my ears...it just doesn't go low enough (and I have a small head). Cute, soft and fashionable, but not sufficient for what I wanted in terms of usefulness.

Hat Doesn't....

I was very disappointed that this hat doesn't cover my ears. supposed to be one size fits all, but obviously this is not accurate.
shotsk at Patagonia on 12/06/2011

Way too small

Love the colors but way too small. Doesn't even cover my husband's ears. It's waiting to go back to the store.

Good, but a little uncomfortable

First, I LOVE Patagonia. I was so excited to get this hat because I loved how it looked. However, I have a rather larger head and it did not fit as well as I would have liked. In addition, I though it was a little itchy on my head. I think if there was some more fleece type material on the inside, it would have felt better on my head and been more comfortable to wear.
mbowow at Patagonia on 02/10/2013

standard beanie...

this is not really a performance beanie...it is not lined on the inside so it is not super warm...the sweat from a day ago still lingers...so dont expect it to wick it away...just a casual hat
