Silky-soft Capilene® 1 is the lightest of all our technical baselayers. A master at managing moisture to keep you cool during active use in warm to sweltering conditions, it also helps protect from the sun and acts as an excellent quick-wicking baselayer beneath heftier Capilene® or wool insulation when the mercury plummets. Made from 100% post-consumer recycled (and 100% recyclable) Capilene® 1 polyester, with Gladiodor natural odor control. Made in USA. Common Threads Recycling ProgramResearch shows that the environmental impact of recycling worn-out Capilene base layers into new polyester fiber is significantly lower than making that same fiber from virgin materials. Taking into account that worn-out garments are diverted from trash incinerators, making new polyester fiber from recycled garments results in an energy savings of 76% and a CO2 emissions [greenhouse gasses] reduction of 71%, versus creating that fiber from new raw material. Capilene® Core Performance®Capilene base layers afford quick-drying, next-to-skin moisture management for all activities in all conditions ? from high-altitude bivies to sun-soaked water sports. | Cap 1 bottoms keep me ventilated or warm, depending on the weather. I've worn these for spring-corn skins up humid northeast ski hills, to flyfish the White in chilly waters of May, and to hike Mt. Mansfield in windy snow conditions in November. My go to insulator and perspiration-wicking machine! Heck, I've even worn these under a spring suit once when I had no warmer suit pants available in 10 degree VT winters. Literally an essential addition to any closet, whether you are a gear-head like me or a recreational hiker just looking to keep toasty. Buy em. Go ahead, it will feel good clicking the mouse and then even better when you put them on in 1 week.

| I've been using these bottoms for years, in the summer I ware them under my leathers riding dirt bikes, they make a great protective barrier between my skin and the tough material of my riding pants. I always have a pair when I travel in the spring and fall, they weigh nothing and roll up smaller then a baseball. they have come in handy more times than I can count when unseasonal cold fronts pop up unexpectedly. they also excel as liners for goretex waders in the stream or under goretex rainpants on chilly, wet days on the boat. These bottoms have multiplepersonalities and all of them are great!!!!!! | |

Lightweight silkie bottoms

| For me, these are the new standard for lightweight winter long underwear bottoms. UBER comfy. I live in a wintery climate, and ski 4 to five days a week. When I get up in the morning, I put these on first, then a ski touring pant, that is what I wear. I am never cold. I can ski or run errands in town, work, be inside, and these bottoms are not hot or itchy. They have a great hand. Patagonia, MAKE ZIP T's FROM THIS MATERIAL! Thank you. | |

much warmer than I expected

Granted in temps below zero on the hill above 12,000 feet I'd opt for the 2, for any other time outdoors being active these are great for me. I actually like the gappping fly referred to earlier because it makes it easy to get out so to speak. When other guys are struggling in the lodge bathroom, your not. I would like a bit more cuff on the ankles but all in all I really appreciate this basee layer!

this is my 3rd pair of bottoms, the others ones have worn out due to wearing everyday during two winters in Korea. Super soft, great for skiing, hiking. I usually don't over-heat when I am skiing with these in the spring, they do a good job of not getting too hot. A lot of people have switched to Merino which is also good and now call this crap-a-lene. I think that is crazy, Patagonia still makes a good product.

| These are super comfortable and keep me warm under a soft shell pant when running along by the beach. But i suggest you size up. I wear a pant size 31/32 and bought a size medium and they were a little tight and short. So i bought a large and they fit alot better. And no I didn't gain any weight. | |

This is a great base layer for freezing conditions where you know will be working hard on the hill. I have also worn it under my jeans around town when its freezing outside but I'm not planning on bombing anything. They fit snug on me and keep me warm in one of the most brisk windy town in the States.

| My favorite bottoms for summer sleeping. Keep me cool and smelling sweet in the warm temperatures. They go great with the crew top for my outback pj's. They of course are more prone to show dirt and grime and not quite as stink-proof as wool or silver threaded stuff, but you gota love patagonia and the recycling program. | |

| exactly what i was looking for taking the cold off just wearing a pair of work pants in a range of temps. if i were doing mountain guide work right now they'd be a perfect wicking base layer. though not good for my love life, i haven't taken them off since i got them! | |

I purchased the Capilene 1 for the express purpose of using them as pajama bottoms in my sleeping bag when backpacking. I used to sleep in sweat pants which were too heavy and which made me ah...sweat. The capilene 1 bottoms are light and warm, but not too hot. A perfect solution for me.

the fly is lame | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
I liked the fit and the weight but the fly is nuts or should I say... no I shouldnt this is a famly site. Any way the fly is like a gaping hole in the front of the pants so if you like to cruse O natural under your tights these are no for you.

Nothing to hide, literally.

My girlfriend enjoyed the fact that the fly had very little fabric overlapping the crotch area leaving me exposed to natures elements, that's good for my girlfriend, but not for an avid outdoor type like me.

Moved to Chicago! | |

I got these as an xmas gift to keep me warm in the chicago winter (moved from atlanta). While they are very thin and light they lack in keeping me warm in the beginning of the chicago winter. SO i opted to return these and upgrade to level 2. I thought about getting level 3 but they cost a little more and I didnt want to get too warm under my clothes.

skimping on the fabric | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
This is the third pair of silkweights i have owned and although the overall performance is the same, Patagonia has really skimped on the amount of fabric it uses to the cover the fly. Check older ones or any other bottoms they make and you will find that there is less of an overlay and that, for me, leads to more exposure of the privates.

"Very breathable, nice materials"
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Got these for free with rewards points, thanks Moosejaw! Pants are very breathable, lightweight, perfect for X-country & backcountry skiing with lots of aerobic activity. One negative - the fly on these pants is poorly designed and not just slightly, I'm not sure why they thought this would work. | |
