Make Great Pajamas, Too.
| Rating: | ![]() |
| These are obviously well-made and well-purposed for outdoor wear. I like them for that, but also for pajamas, both at home and on the road. Nothing as well made and comfortable. Last forever. Patagonia's lifetime warranty means if they have any defect in materials (as I once had on a pair of their shorts) that doesn't show up for a long time, you can get a replacement. With the new Gladiodor treatment, you can wear these for days on end (like on a business trip or holiday, when you are too lazy to wash them) without them getting funky. Having to take only 1 pair helps keep travel packing light! (Think, Rick Steves Europe.) Since they are made of synthetic as opposed to wool or cotton, one pair is enough for travel, since you can sink wash in the morning them using hotel soap bars or shampoo, ring them out (final ring in a hotel towel), hang them up, and they will be dry enough to wear that same night. Try that with wool or cotton, which take days to dry! Even if they are damp, they still insulate and will dry out on you quickly. Be sure to choose the right weight - Capilene 2 for summer, Capilene 3 for winter. | |

Effective temperature management
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I bought these with the matching zipper top in order to endure the winter as someone who works (and spends plenty of time otherwise) outdoors. I wore them on a chilly, but not too cold day after I bought them, and was impressed by how effectively heat and moisture were managed throughout the day. In the morning and evening, it was very chilly outside and I was kept comfortable and warm, despite wearing less layers than I usually would. As the day progressed and the temperature rose (to about 48F) I had to remove a few layers to remain comfortable, but I never broke out in a sweat (to my knowledge) and remained comfortable for the duration of the day. | |

Comfortable and warm, but not too warm.

| I routinely wear these under a pair of warm up pants to take my dog out for brisk walks in the cold of the night and so far they've kept me warm at temperatures below 30 degrees F. The build seems to be very good and they appear as if they'll last quite a long time. As far as sizing goes, I normally wear a size 32x32 pants so I bought these in a medium and they fit perfect - they have plenty of stretch for someone a little bigger but the material is top quality and they don't seem to lose elasticity so they'd be fine for someone a little smaller too. | |

I love my Patagonia Capilene 3 bottoms. I'm usually a merino wool type of guy, but these bottoms have proved themselves. I wear them whenever I go out on a cold adventure. I really like to wear them with shorts when I go climbing in the late fall/winter/early spring. They are bomb proof. I've owned them for 4 years now and not one hole and never have I been cold my the nether region. I would move to merino, but these bottoms won't let me. I'm affriad they'd try to strangle me in my sleep if I ever betrayed them. They're tough! I wouldn't mess with em.

Great product[...] | |

| As one would expect with Patagonia, the Cap 3's are great products. I wore these for about a 15 mile hike with daytime temps in the 40's, while at night it was the low 20's. I never felt overheated during the day, and warm and toasty at night. My only very minor complaint was that it did pill slightly, and I washed on delicate and hung dry. Not a big deal though.Rock Creek was absolutely perfect. The items were in stock[...] I can't speak of customer service as I had no need to use them. That makes a perfect purchase in my book. | |

All I Need | |

The Patagonia Cap3 Bottom is all I need under my North Face Freedom pants. These midweight bottoms keep me incredibly warm and dry on the coldest of days. I have only ever worn these and these are all I will ever need. The size is true, and are such the perfect bottom baselayer. I wear my Smartwool socks and pull these bad boys down to right about mid calf and I am locked and loaded for a long day. The wicking capability is truly remarkable....as dry when I am taking them off...as when I was putting them on in the morning.

I recently bought these one week before going on an 8 day ski trip in Sun Valley with some buddies of mine, and I wore only these long johns with a pair of burton ski pants and they kept me so hot i had to unzip all the vents in the pants. It was about -15 with wind chill on the top of the mountain and i was eating powder left and right and these never failed. I highly recommend them and will be using them everytime i ski. For the price, there is no other way to go.

Great Product, Great Price!

I bought these with a Capilene 3 shirt, wore it sitting still in 20 degree weather for 4 hours and did not get cold. Also, the price is great. I couldn't find my size anywhere locally and purchased Under Armor that was $50 for the pants only. As soon as I found my size I returned the Under Armor for these which were cheaper and haven't looked back. I'm 6'1" 200lbs and the medium are a perfect fit. These also saved me some money on ski pants as I don't need ones that are insulated.

Soft and Comfortable | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| As a base layer, these add an extra level of warmth when you're out in the cold. I find them to be soft and less bulky than wool products. I'm plenty warm with these under shell pants, doing light activity in temps down to 15 degress. Don't think I'd need a Cap 4 unless it got colder. Matches well with the Cap 3 top. Great sleepwear for the house if you don't like traditional pajamas. 36" waist, 34" inseam - the XL is perfect. I absolutely agree with another reviewer...Pategonia should lose the tag! | |

| this is some fine long underwear. some stuff you might want to read - i am tall (6'3) and wear size 34 waist. i was worried they wouldn't fit right somewhere, but they are perfect; i bet they would even accommodate someone a little wider. i wear them underneath jeans and they rock. i was outside all day building a sweat lodge and felt no cold on my lower section...paired with woollen socks these guys are great. and they're nice little jammies. what's not to like? | |

| Disappointing -- older Capilene was better - As a long time user of Patagonia's original Capilene thermal wear I was disappointed with the new version. Unlike the original which was very soft and easy on the skin the newer is scratchy - more like a wool product. | |

good middle of the road baselayer. would liked it better if it had more silk outer coating for outer layers to slide over and better movement like the lower numbers, but still a heavyer weight

Rocked a pair of these for 2 years and didn't have many complaints. You want them to be tight so go small on them so they wick well. They get the job done.
