Positive Reviews:

I bought this in size large. I'm 5'11" and 185 lbs. It fits perfectly. The arms are very long, so I don't think tall skinny people should feel the need to size up based on sleeve length. It has thumb straps built into the wrists of the sleeves so you can easily put on another layer without having the sleeves bunch up your arms. I bought the Hardy Stripe/Classic Navy colorway thinking it would be red with navy blue stripes. I think that was the intent as the seams are sewn with a blue thread, but the stripes on the shirt are so dark that they at first glance appeared to be black. I'm still happy with the shirt, but figured I'd mention that because I think some people would be put off by that.

Fits great on a long torso

This shirt is a very comfy. I haven't yet had the chance to wear it on its own, only as a base layer. Once it warms up I will give it a go on its own. So far it is great. I'm 5'10'' 155 lbs with a rather long torso. I got a Small and it fits just fine. A slim fit but not too short, which usually happens. The little "finger" holds are a nice touch. Keeps the arms from rolling up. It also looks good on its own—a nice touch. Great job Patagonia. (Plus, the store in Vermont ordered a different size for me and had it shipped to my house for free. Truly a great company.)

Capilene 3 Midweight - Perfect fit

I'm 5'7", 165 pounds. This shirt fits perfectly in the chest, shoulders and arms, which is a rarity in my shopping experience. Could be longer at the waist by a couple of inches. Moves nicely underneath other layers without bunching, chafing or binding. Seams are strongly stitched, which is critical for me as I'm actively using my arms while tightly layered in drysuit undergarments-the shirt holds up nicely without excessive rubbing. Comfortable, good fitting, warm as an underlayer-I dove 48 degree water off Vancouver Island for a week, and wouldn't have made it without this shirt. Also looks good as a regular shirt. It transitions nicely into the backcountry, doesn't retain excessive odor and wicks sweat away nicely.

I´ve the 2011-12 version, and I don´t believe there´s been a huge change since then. It´s very comfortable, keeps you warm and breathes very well. I use this for running, I wear this alone with temps about 50f (10C) and any lower I put on a tech T shirt to block the wind down to about 40f (6C) cooler than than I´d use a jacket/gilet over it. This is a great top for any fast moving activities. As an urban runner I just wish there was a Hi Viz version.

Great all-around shirt

I got the shirt and bottoms for Christmas last year and wore them on every ski day, replacing my usual Under Armour Cold Gear. I'm 5'9" 165 lbs and usually wear a medium but was gifted a large and am glad. They definitely have a slimmer fit and the large fits perfectly. I bought the new R1 in size medium this year and this does not layer well under the new R1 fit. Will most likely try the R1 in large.

great update

loved my cap 3 zip neck from last season so much that I decided to get another as a crew neck for more leisurely wear. I notice a little slimmer fit than last year but overall this is an outstanding refresh. Love the softness and the warmth and the new colors. Great job. I am a trail runner, 6' 2" 170 lbs, bought a size L on both occasions.

Best Cap 3 Ever

I've worn Cap 3 for about the last 20 years with a few older versions still in my drawer. This year's style, form and function is so dialed in as to be absolute perfection in a base layer. At 6'1" and 195 the size large fits exactly the way I like it. Stretchy, warm and the thumb loops knock this out of the park. Excellent job Patagonia!!

Awesome warm quick-drying base layer.

This top fits me perfectly, is quite warm, and looks awesome.
I'm 6 feet, 165 lbs and broad-shouldered athletic build.

I use this top as a solo layer, under-layer in cold weather, or lounge-the-house layer as well.

The thumb holes are a bit hard to use since they pull the sleeves taut, but I think that makes sense for skiing/snowboarding.

Always great!

Patagonia base layers are always great! You will not regret getting one. I wear mine all the time, especially the Cap 3. It goes great as a layer for cold weather activities or solo around town or the house. Don't forget these usually go on sale which makes them a super buy!!! Get outside and Enjoy!

Capilene: It's getting better

I'm loving the new capilene midweight crewneck I bought. So does everyone who sees it. It's nice that it's striped, so it can be worn as outwear (business casual). It's nicely taylored. The length could be a bit longer, but I'm long I guess! Super versitile. Good for everything

Neutral Reviews:

Shirt didn't fit

I like the look of these shirts. I'm 5'11" and 150lbs and bought two small shirts because the sizing chart looked like they'd fit. I received one medium by accident which was very baggy for my taste. The small shirt fit well on my torso but the sleeves rode up when reaching and the underarms of the shirt bothered my armpits when reaching as well. The shirt also had a slightly itchy feel. I'll have to keep looking.

Liked last years better (2012)

While this edition is still great, I liked the cut and feel of 2011-12 better. I like the seams in the arms and the full fashioned effect. In fact, I was lucky enough to score four more "old ones" today while inquiring on a chat with a Patagonia rep. They didn't show on the Web Specials and luckily I asked if they were still available.
