Common Threads Recycling ProgramResearch shows that the environmental impact of recycling worn-out Capilene base layers into new polyester fiber is significantly lower than making that same fiber from virgin materials. Taking into account that worn-out garments are diverted from trash incinerators, making new polyester fiber from recycled garments results in an energy savings of 76% and a CO2 emissions [greenhouse gasses] reduction of 71%, versus creating that fiber from new raw material. So durable, I really don't need another...

| I've had this top in its previous iteration, the R0.5 top, for about 6yrs and use it all through the fall/winter/spring for trail running and hiking (and just wearing around). It is remarkably warm for its weight yet breathes like a combination of a vacuum and fishnet - it's almost impossible to get wet in this, no matter how much you are exerting yourself. This will be your go-to top for cold weather activities that make you sweat. Some reviewers complain that it is not windproof, but it is not meant to be! That's what shells are for... My old one is holding up like a champ (like all Patagonia products) and is still working like new with only a few minor picks in the fabric after six years of hard use. To some degree I really don't need this new one, but the sale price is great and I like the addition of the chest pocket. | |

| I am on my fourth Zip Neck now and I have been using them for at least 10 years. Absolutly indispensible. Active fit so for me true to size, no problem wearing a thin wool shirt underneath. Wears great on its own in spring or summer and under a shell in the colder months. I take one on all my travels no matter the destination or the season. They are light, easy caring and look great to boot. I have used them for everything be it climbing, cycling, hiking, backpacking, hanging out and even sleeping. It makes a great pillow as well. Every once in a while I have to buy a new one because they feel so extremely soft and comfortable when they are new. Hands down the best and most vesatile fleece I own, one of my favorite Patagonia products. | |

| I own several Capilene Zips-Necks, can't live without. Winter golfing with an early am T-time (even in Arizona) 40 degrees is cool, the Capilene is the perfect weight under a golf jacket. It comes in handy as well on Motorcycle trips, great layer piece, high zip neck especially good feature. We travel several months a year, it's great packing piece when suitcase space is limited, additionally, works well when traveling in different weather conditions as layer or wearing alone. Dries quickly if we need to hand wash and line dry. Thanks, will definitely be ordering additional for both my wife and myself. | |

| Capeline 4 T-neck worked great skiing multiple days in Utah in 10 degree weather. I was trying to decide between Wool 4 and Cap 4 and the little features like a zipper garage next to my neck made the decision easy. What's not to like, no brainer care instructions and great design. My only feedback is that Cap 4 is a little lighter than the old Expedition Weight product that it replaces. I went to layering with Capeline 2 under Cap 4 and now I have a new favorite combination that is actually more versitile. | |

My favorite Cap | |

| This is just an awesome product. I wish all the capilene tops had a pocket like this one. I have several of these and have been using them for years. Mostly I wear them as a mid layer under a shell or as a top layer. They are true to size and last a long time. While I think the price is a bit steep, you get what you pay for and they go on sale often. I'd be really stoked if they came out with a hooded version. | |

the most EPIC base layer ever made!!!

| I own zip-neck and crew cap4 and zip-neck and crew cap3. In total, four baselayers is all I have and I end up wearing them approx 8 months out of a year. I love the way they feel against the skin and the fact that they wick away moisture. I wear them under my jacket when riding my motorcycle, or when hiking...or when running errands. Buy quality not quantity. Whenever these four wear our, I am coming back to Patagonia for baselayers...no one does it better. Thank you! | |

"Already been said - insanely warm for insanely little weight"

| These start cooking real quick when you're doing anything that involves being alive. Thin but really tightly knit and smooth on the outside, they're also extremely light. Feels as light if not lighter than the Capilene 3 but is considerably warmer. Has a slightly stretchier/closer fit than the rest of the Capilene line as well. Only real competition is Patagonia's own wool line, for which the Wool 4 is considerably more $$$ and not nearly as light. Can't loose with this. | |

| Have been looking for a layering system for ice climbing that I could use by itself if weather permitted...it did and it was the best piece of clothing I have in my aresenal..light but built to last..I have a couple of the cap 2's and 3's but this for the quality and price is the best hands down..Service was exceptiona..they even found my house in Ouray which most locals cant..very satisfied and will do business again | |

Traveling in Ethiopia | |

| I bought this baselayer for a recent trip to Ethiopia. Because of the altitude, I knew that even with daytime temps in the 80s, the evening temps could drop into the 40s. I actually wore the baselayer more as a light sweater during the evening; easily stuffed into my bag during day and tied it around my shoulders during the late afternoon. The fit was great and washed and dried well. | |

One is Not Enough!! | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| The bottom line is this Zip-Neck does exactly what it is supposed to do; it lets you stay warm and dry when its cold outside and you're engaged in some type of activity, I have worn it as a base layer while kayaking Wisconsin rivers in temperatures as low as 35 degrees. I find myself wearing them all the time. One is not enough so I'm going to start collecting them. | |

"Not as good as I hopped."

| I had expectations of this keeping me really warm given that it was a cap 4, but it is a bit thin. So far I have worn it hiking and it did a decent job alone or layered. On the other hand I went to a race down south and at night I was down right freezing with this on. And I had layers on top of it. Maybe my expectations were a bit high, but I have UA that keeps me much warmer (though it weights considerably more) then this. Will be wearing this in AK, and hope it performs better there. | |

"great material, bad fit"
| Rating: | ![]() |
| The low score might be a bit unfair, because it's all about fit. At 6'4, 190 lbs, 42 inch chest, there's just no size in this shirt that even comes close to fitting me. The sleeves on the L don't make it to my wrists, and I'm swimming in the XL, especially the zip neck. I'd have to wear 3 layers of neck gaiter underneath for it to fit snug. Capilene material is great, and I wish Patagonia made these so that I could wear them. I'll have to stick to Icebreaker, which cuts its shirts for tall skinny folks like me. | |

Everything but the fit | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Love the fabric. Good sleeve length. Cut doesn't ride up when I reach. Zip T fits well, good height. Even with a pocket now. My only problem with the 4 Zip-Neck is that the sizing changed. I used to fit perfectly in a Large. Now a Large is waaay snug on my torso, and XL is too long and too baggy. I wish Patagonia hadn't made both the R1 and this top in the Slim fit. I ended up giving this one away to a slimmer nephew. My advice: check the fit closely. If you're comfortable it'll work for you. | |

| The Capilene 4 baselayer is worth it if you can get a decent deal on it. This, paired with the windproof lightweight R4 fleece, got me through a Boston winter. It's great on its own in 40-50 degree weather, but any sort of wind will rip right through it. | |
