Still LOVE these after 8 years and a design change

I bought two of these 8 years ago, and although those two wore out a couple years ago, I have 7 of these bras in my drawer now and couldn't live without them. They just last and last and although they might get a bit faded or stretched after 5 years...you can't ask for a better performing bra in my opinion! I am 5'8" 165lbs with an athletic build, chest 38, A cup size.
These are my every day, all day bra for work (large animal veterinarian), sport (rowing, hiking, rugby, horseback riding and more) and general use. I have no other "sports" bras and only a select few bras for low-cut or strapless tops and formal wear that are just ridiculously uncomfortable in comparison.
My one critique - the most recent purchase of two of these surprised me as the design has changed. They run smaller now - I have always been perfect in Size Large, and the new design is less stretchy and therefore I felt very squashed the first time I tried them on, compared to my older slightly stretched ones. I didn't dream of sending them back and I don't even notice anymore but a woman with a larger cup size might find it to be an issue. One other point, is that when rowing longer distances in hot weather I do find the under arm chafes a little bit.
Overall though, I can't recommend this bra highly enough and I would go into mourning were Patagonia to take it off the market!

Great Product But Needs Improvement

I love these bras as a casual weekend bra. They are the most comfortable design I have ever found They have continued to fit me through my pregnancy although perhaps I am stretching them a bit. I've had mine several years now and will likely need new ones after this pregnancy just because I'm stretching them too much. Some of the stretchy fibers pull loose a little but this is after much wear and it does not effect the fit or function of the bra at all. I just cut them as they pull loose. My one complaint is the use of spandex in the stretchy part at the base of the bra. I have some minor skin reactions with spandex when a sweat. So I wish the spandex did not lay against my skin or less spandex was used in the product. Some days I come home and just have to rip the bra off I'm so itchy around the middle. It is only on days where I'm sweating and it is only because I have mild allergies to spandex. But it would be nice if the design reduced the quantity of spandex for those of us with difficulties with spandex. Other than that it is my favorite bra so please keep making it.

Brilliant Accident

I purchased two of these bras on something of a whim prior to a 5 day 240 mile bike ride through hot, muggy conditions in Missouri. I couldn't have been happier with their performance. Size-typically I am a 34A and I got the small. It seems a bit small when I first put it on, but I rarely notice it once on. I also don't have substantial marks on the skin when I take it off. Wash-n-wear: On my trip I took two bras. I could have taken one. I washed my clothes out in the sink every evening, and they were dry by morning. Working with water: The bra wicked moisture so well I didn't notice sweating the way I normally would have. I also got soaked to the skin in an unexpected 2 hour torrential downpour->this bra dried within an hour and didn't leave tell-tale wet spots under my shirt as the rest of me dried. Some reviews have mentioned the arm holes being a bit high. This concerned me a bit when I bought it. Despite doing high levels physical activity in this bra for 5 full days, I had NO chaffing issues. A GREAT find!
Roberst at Patagonia on 07/02/2011

So I've been on an endless quest to find a lightweight wicking bra that is not see thru that would be appropriate for my hot yoga classes. Finally, the search has ended! I have this bra in the Fitz Roy Cerise color way and it is perfect. It fits snug enough that it does not move around in class but it is also not super heavy and does not collect sweat. The material is a double layer so you don't have to worry about it becoming see thru with a lot of sweat (definitely a concern when you are in 105 degrees for 90 minutes).
I have not worn the active mesh bra running but I am confident that it would be supportive enough, and I am a C cup. I got the size Medium and my regular bra size is 32D/34C, it's a perfect fit!

More than it appears

This is the second of this style Bra that I've bought for running, cycling, etc. LOVE it. I am 5'4"/115 and an A/B (that is A-1/2) cup, and the size SMALL is the perfect bra for me. Not sure how it would be for larger breasted women as it is definitely uses the 'squish' system to stabilize. BUT, for my size chest, I don't want any more(or less). The material is thick, stretchy and durable, but not hot, and the shoulder straps are narrow but do not dig in. The design around the chest is wide and comfy, even with a heart rate monitor strip. It's 'modest' enough for running without a top over it in summer, and the designs are cute and make them look less like a 'bra'. I will own more of these in the future!

old one is my fave sports bra

I love the size M I bought a little over 2 years ago. wear it skiing, yoga, gardening, hiking. Enough support when I was around 34-36d, but I lost some weight recently and it's a little too big now (34c, it may have stretched slightly being worn at my various sizes). I just tried on a newer size medium that's too tight. I thought i'd need to go down to a small, but the new sizing is either very different or I got an odd one— has happened to me before with patagonia. I'm going back to the store to figure it out, but meanwhile, be warned, the new one in my usual size (varies S to M but usually M) was painful for me to wear for ~10 minutes.

My favorite comfortable sport top

I wear this sport top/bra most days, for a range of activities, from hiking to canoeing to yoga. It offers good support, it wicks and, most importent to me, it's comfortable. I have other sport tops, but this is the one I seem to keep coming back to. I like the accent colors on the straps since they sometimes show depending on the shape of the top I'm wearing. With the darker or brighter straps, it seems OK for them to show, less like a bra strap showing. Great item! Though I'm a M in most tops, I like to get a L or even XL in sport tops, including this one, sizce comfort is key for me. I think this top is accurately sized, however.

most comfortable bra ever!

i thought Patagonia had the market on "most comfortable bra EVER" a few years ago when i first started wearing the Active Mesh bra, but the newest edition has some rad improvements! what's new? the material is now even more lightweight and silkier, plus there are two cut-outs under the arms for even better breath-ability! the bra still has the market on being incredibly comfortable AND supportive! such a win! Patagonia added the Active Mesh bra to their Common Threads Recycling Program so it's built to last and they will help you recycle it when it's time to retire it. sweet. i don't plan on wearing any other style of bra again! Patagonia knows how to keep the chest happy!
bethany at Moosejaw on 05/03/2011

This is my favorite sports bra, ever! I have about 5 of these bras and though I've tried other brands, this is by far my favorite.
What do I like about it?
The fabric has a substantial feel to it (i.e, not flimsy), yet it is lightweight. It does not stretch out of shape over time, like many cotton-based bras do. And it's nice and snug for my A-sized chest.
Highly recommended for small-chested, active women. However, the sizes do tend to run a little small. I have a 32" chest and the X-small says it's good for 32-33" but the small is actually a more comfortable fit. The XS tends to feel like my circulation is being cut off.

My Favorite Bra

This is my favorite bra of all time. It works great for running, daily wear, and stands alone as a sport top for races. My only two issues are: that after repeated washings, the stringy elastic fibers begin to stick out and I usually just melt them off, followed by some chafing on my inner arm from the armpit area of the elastic (but only on really hot sweaty runs). I would want flatter, wider shoulder straps if I could design it myself, but overall I love this bra and will keep ordering them. (I think I have about 20.) When they get worn, I just start doubling them.

Negative Reviews:

Seriously, the sizing

I picked this up in the Patagonia store in downtown Seattle on a 6 week bike tour from Montana and wanted something that I could wear by itself to beat the heat and not look like I'm just in a bra. I grabbed a medium because I have always worn a small or medium in every bra and shirt I have ever worn. I am a 34 B cup and could barely put this on. It is cute, but when you are sizing things as small/medium/large I find it ridiculous to be so far off. I have read Yvon Chouinard's book in which he mentions that their sizing is meant for athletic types and some think it runs small, but I actually usually wear a small in Patagonia gear. The bra cut into my skin and was so uncomfortable that I left it on the side of the road somewhere in Oregon.
aconneal at Patagonia on 10/07/2011

Why did they change them?

I used to love this bra, but I'm so disappointed in the new styling. Unlike other reviewers, I actually like the new sizing - it feels much more supportive for my C chest and I can wear the same size as the old style with only slightly less comfort. The really annoying thing is that when I round my shoulders forward even a little the front of the bra puckers and you can see everything, which is not so good when the top of the bra is the only thing covering you up there (if it was hidden under a shirt I don't think it would be an issue). I've had this problem with my older bras that have been washed to death, but not with a brand new one. It's definitely going back. :(

A Spanish Boot for breasts

I love Patagonia clothing, but something has gone horribly wrong with this bra - it is far too small and too tight. I am 5'7" 130 lb 36B and typically wear Patagonia size small. I literally could not breathe in the small so bought this in medium. I had run in it a few times and discovered that while the bra is supportive, it also painfully squashes my breasts and the longer I run the more I feel as if tortured. Large is far too big on me, so will have to return the product. A pity, as looked very nice with my nine trails running skirt.
Marianna at Patagonia on 10/20/2012

I got this bra a while ago and it is not a very soft. I tried to wear it and wash it a bunch of times but it is still pretty rough. It chafes in front my armpits so much that I can barely stand to wear it for an entire day on the river. The other thing I don't like about it is that the bottom of it is not any tighter than the rest of it, so if you stash a key or anything in your bra, they will fall out. Big bummer Patagonia, not recommended.

Lauren F. at Backcountry.com on 10/29/2012

Bad Fit!

I've purchased these bras in the past--I have 6 of them, so when I got this one, I was disappointed. The sizing is way off. It looked like it would fit a child. Even went to the store thinking that it was mislabeled and to look at the large. An average size woman couldn't get into even the large. I actually think there was an error in the manufacturing. The fabric seemed more flimsy, too. I love the 6 that I have. Bummer about the newer versions, at least in the blue color that I had ordered.
Anuenue7 at Patagonia on 05/02/2011

They Changed the Material

This has always been my favorite sports bra. No others could even compete! I ordered another recently and the material felt softer and more stretchy. I compared it to the others I bought in the past by putting it on and doing the old "jump test". Sure enough, it does not hold me in as well as it used to. My friend also purchased one recently and agrees. Softer, more stretchy, not as effective. I miss the old material!
prender3 at Patagonia on 03/18/2013

Bring back the older style!

Years ago, the Patagonia mesh active bra was a thick, stretchy material, and had thin, stretchy straps that went STRAIGHT back over the shoulders. These were my wife's favorite bras. Since then, Patagonia bra design has gone horribly downhill. Each year, the fabric gets less stretchy, the straps get wider and less stretchy, and the overall shaping has gotten worse. Sure wish Patagonia would bring back the old-style active bras!
ClimberRob at Patagonia on 04/27/2012

W's Active Mesh Bra

The changes made to this version of the W's Active Mesh Bra are very disappointing. The new version is missing the ease of putting on and taking off, support and the ability to move with my body during activities. I am unhappy with the multiple layers and feel they are ineffective and uncomfortable. The previous model was a perfect choice for all activities. I hope Patagonia brings it back!
ThirdCoastGirl at Patagonia on 07/30/2011

Way too small

I bought one of these bras in Spring 2011 and have been wearing it ever since. So, I ordered another one recently and it was laughably smaller than my previous one. I'm a 34A, and know Patagonia runs small, but my size medium from Spring 2011 fits like a dream. This newer medium is teeny. Makes me wonder who the heck can wear the x-small!
Farmingirl at Patagonia on 03/06/2012

Doesn't fit

I ordered a medium, which is my usual Patagonia size. I'm usually in between a small and a medium. It felt like the right size, but was too tight under the arms and was too much of a smasher bra for me. I'm a 34B and really thin, usually pretty easy to get bras to fit, but this is going back to the store.

Neutral Reviews:

Too Small

I have two of these bras that I wear all the time from 2009. I love them! I measured and followed the sizing chart on this site to order three new ones for this year. When I received the X-small, it was so extremely small that I was almost painful to wear just trying it on - even though that was the size that was suggested on this website with my measurements. I sent all three back and got a size Small. It is still so small that the elastic cuts into my skin and left red marks. I measured these bras against the two that I already have and (love !) at home from 2009 - there is a four inch difference around the rib cage portion of the bras. Please, bring the prior sizing back. I love these bras, but this year they run extremely small. I should be wearing an X-small but I will be returning the Small (that is too small) for a Medium.
stefaniezier at Patagonia on 05/24/2011

Size has changed for the worse

I love this bra and normally buy one every year and retire one every year. However, starting last year, they changed the size and they don't fit properly. I have carefully measured the new medium against the old medium and they are not at all the same. I didn't have any old smalls on hand, but the difference was so huge I wonder if the new medium was smaller than the old small. So, I returned my 2010 model and was lucky enough at that time to buy some 2009 ones on sale to stock up. They showed up and fit perfectly. It looks like from the other reviews that Patagonia needs to revisit the sizing on this! I love this new 2011 artwork, but won't be giving it a try this year. Would be a five star product of course otherwise. This happens on other products as well. 2009 integral pants I wore a small. 2010 extra small.
HollyB at Patagonia on 05/09/2011

stunned at new sizing!

Like other reviewers, this is my go-to active bra - I always pick up a couple each summer before vacation, as they are great for hiking! I didn't travel last year, so I guess I missed the resizing... I mistakenly ordered new ones this year, got them, tore the tags off, and tossed them in my drawer... I just went to put one on and had a heart attack - The old medium fit me perfectly - the new medium I can't even get on, it's so tight! I thought I was crazy, but clearly not! Now I'm stuck with $35 bras that don't fit!
Funny, I didn't think to read the reviews of something I already knew and loved. Also, I love Patagonia, and have never been steered wrong! But this time, woah! What happened?!?!?
So 3 stars - 5 for the old style; 1 for the new!
mockingbird at Patagonia on 06/30/2011

Hard to find the right fit..

I am by no means a large chested person (30/32B) and I have had real trouble get the size right for the bra. I first ordered the small and while it held the boobs in place great, the shoulder straps dug in and caused a slight back roll under my shoulder blades. I sent it back for the medium which was also a little on the tight side. I ordered a large next and it provided no coverage at all. I don't know if my body is just incompatible or if Patagonia has men making these bras... I would recommend trying this one on in store.
JOANN at Moosejaw on 08/06/2011

My store-fitting experience

First of all, I did not end up buying this bra....I'm a 34C and the medium seemed to fit well around, but the straps were not as tight as I prefer when running and vigorous hiking. Tried the small and strap lenght was great, but I felt squashed and the bra made those yucky fat rolls on my back. If the straps were adjustable, the medium would have been perfect. In all honesty, I think I prefer extra tight "ups" when working out, though...Hope this helps!
crissi at Moosejaw on 10/08/2011

Fit is Small

I am a 36B and wear a M across the board in everything from t-shirts to scrubs and the M size in this product was way to small. I wore it around the house for 15 minutes thinking it would break in but it restricted my breathing and movement and when I took it off it left deep imprints on my shoulders. The weird thing is that the M in the Barely Everyday Bra and the Crossover Bra fit great.
ColoradoGirl123 at Patagonia on 03/10/2013

material change??

i ordered a small as i couldn't remember if i used to order the xs or s, but even the s was tight. it seems the material is not as stretchy as it used to be in years past. i suppose this is good for the busty girls, but it just makes it harder for me to get into! i do love the print, though! got the blue print w/matching boy shorts.
tinkbell at Patagonia on 07/29/2011

Too tight in the ribcage!

I love these bras - I have many of them, but the sizes just don't seem super consisent. I am ALWAYS a medium in Patagonia, top bottom... I wear a 36 B/C bra, and the medium in this bra is incredibly tight around my ribs. Hope it loosens up, I don't think sizing up would work. Otherwise I love these bras and I wear them all the time.
lbryant at Patagonia on 02/25/2012

Active Mesh Bra

This as some other Patagonia bras that I have tried or owned was too tight. It's hard to find a bra that fits an athletic 34 AA but isn't too tight. Everything else Patagonia makes fits well, but this would prevent me from breathing deep on my runs and other aerobic pursuits. I returned it - too bad as it's nice looking.

Size change

I love these bras and have worn them for 10 plus years. However, this year when I ordered my usual size (small) it did not fit. They have changed the sizing of this bra down. So, if you were a small before order a medium.
