awesome

i first bought these for my husband and myself and marveled at how lightweight it was but how warm it was for its lightness. now i've bought them for my kids too. my son wears it every day in the winter. on the really cold days, i have him wear his northface fleece under the patagonia down sweater just so i know that he won't be cold. it's a popular coat in my son's daycare class. lots of other kids have it too. their parents have seen the merits of this coat too. my son is almost 5 years old and is always about 90% for his height and weight. i got him an xs. it fits him now, and i can even fit the fleece underneath it. next year, i probably won't be able to layer the fleece under it anymore.

My 5th Down Sweater Jacket Purchase!

I have many jackets in my closet, but I absolutely love the Patagonia Sweater Jacket. Bought one for myself when they first came out. My husband and friends were understandably envious and wanted one, too. I got one for him and my granddaughter last year. This year bought one for my grandson and a Birch White for me. The kids, on the east coast, wear them from Fall through Spring, layering on the coldest days. Out here in Northern California we wear them year round (our nights are almost always cool). I have just two gripes. First Patagonia discontinued the deep plum and never made a titanium gray for women as they did for men last year; both would have been perfect for the city, day or night.

I love mine after a long day to keep me warm at camp. So I figured since my son said liked mine I would get him one too. He is only 5 and I got him the small, which is too big for him, but he can still wear it this year and if things go right next year too. Quality is exactly the same as mine, which I love and has been used extensively. In fact the only difference is mine has a pocket on the inside, while his doesn't. He was stoked to get this...now living in So Cal, we just have to wait for it to be cold enough to use, or wait for a few free days to get on the trail.

Best Jacket Ever for 7 year old

i should say best jacket for the pickiest 7 year old. i own the adult version of this jacket (which i adore) and my daughter was borrowing mine, so i gave in and bought her one too. We live in Brooklyn and my daughter is outside ALL of the time - she is very active - and this jacket is amazing. Light and warm - very easy to care for and very easy to pack and carry. She also tells me that everyone thinks it is VERY COOL - high praise for Brooklyn elementary school. (i wear mine to work or when running in frigid weather or immediately after surfing - it is perfect for everything)

Never worry about your kid being cold

We bought our 2 year old a blue Down Sweater for Christmas (its now April) and he simply loves the jacket and always wants it on. Its not only warm but extrermely durable. He rides a little bike without peddles on our backyard dirt track with a ramp and he's taken some falls and slides many o' times. The jacket is still in perfect shape. I also have one and living in Colorado, it can be warm and suddenly cold and this jacket is comfortable in all conditions (except summer of course). I'm about ready to purchase the pink one for his older sister because she is jealous.

I bought this in size XS for my tall 4 year old son. He usually wears a 5T. The jacket is slightly big on him but still fits - I hope it will last into next year too. I purchased this jacket b/c it is super warm but still light enough to easily and comfortably fit under car seat straps in the car (unlike his heavy snow jacket). For sledding and playing in the snow, we use his waterproof snow jacket, not this one. But for winter outings when we will be riding in the car, this jacket is perfect.

Fabulous product

Purchased one for my 2 year old son, and one for my infant who will be turning one next winter (in size 12M). This jacket fits wonderfully and looks nice on. It's lightweight, warm, and extremely durable. My 2 year old son fell and slid on the cement ground few times in this jacket, and I thought that was the end of this jacket, but the jacket is still in perfect condition. When he gets dirt on it, I simply take a wet towel and wipe it off. No need to put it into the washing machine every time.

I love this Patagonia down sweater

I bought this Patagonia down sweater and think it's one of the best products I've ever purchased. I'm a city dweller, so it hasn't been tested expedition style. But I wear it practically every day of the winter on the outside of my clothes but under my outer coat. That both keeps it clean and keeps me toasty warm. I kick myself whenever I don't bring it on the theory, "Oh, it's warm enough outside." It's almost never so warm in the winter that I couldn't benefit from wearing this very thin, lightweight coat.

Love it

We loved this kids jacket so much we bought the adult versions, so we all have one. It is super warm, super lightweight & looks great. You can wear it on it's own or as a extra warm liner to a wind proof coat and that works really well because this jacket isn't bulky. It isn't a tough coat so be careful not to get it snagged on a tree or a rock or something because it looks easy to rip. But I just know we'll be buying this one again & again.

Good for around the town

This is the perfect item for a child for running errands around town. It goes in and out of the car seat belt buckles relatively painlessly (no bulk!), and there's minimal complaining about being suddenly too hot or too cold. The younger the child, the more you appreciate these aspects! That said, the fabric gets dirty too quickly for the real outdoor playing that my sons do. The sweater alone is not substantial enough that I would use it for prolonged outdoor use below 25 degrees F.

Good product

Overall a good product, but if there was a little more fill it would definitely be a more useful, versatile garment. Also, kids being kids, and jackets functioning as bibs and hankies sometimes, it would be great if there was something more wipable as a coating on the nylon- it gets dirty very quick and is difficult to clean short of a full on washing.
Cricket at Patagonia on 10/28/2008

Hard to say

My son got this sweater for Christmas and absolutely loves it. My concern is regarding the durability. There is already a little tear over the left shoulder and I notice that it is wearing thin in a couple of other spots. Disappointing since I'd like it to last at least one season and possibly be passed down to the next sibling.

We had to return the first jacket becasue of the zipper. My son loves the jacket but I am weary of the zipper. The zipper on the second coat is already giving us trouble. Other than that....he loves it.
