Seriously Awesome Coat

Rating:*****

I wore my new coat today in a snow storm in Chicago (with windchill, around 10 degrees and very windy) and felt snug as a bug. I love Patagonia's down sweater and wanted something just as light and compressible but in coat form, and the Fiona fits the bill. The Fiona is different from the down sweater in a couple of respects. First, the fit is completely different: while the down sweater is boxy and roomy, the Fiona is more fitted and lean. I am 5'2", 115 lbs and fit comfortably in an XS, but I probably can only fit an R2 underneath it; anything more would render the shoulders kind of tight. Secondly, the Fiona appears to be designed as an urban, "fashion" coat as compared to the down sweater's often more sportive, technical use (I use the down sweater as a mid-layer for hiking, camping and skiing, while I envision the Fiona as more useful while wandering about the city). For example, the Fiona does not have the down sweater's built-in compression sack pocket that is so useful for packing. The Chantarelle is a great color - kind of a grayish cream color that looks great against black.

great coat-great business

Rating:*****

I like to give credit where credit is due. I've always loved all the Patagonia clothing I've purchased. This coat is no different. I bought this for my girlfriend who is a flight attendant in Alaska. She wears it as her winter coat and loves it. It can also be worn out on a night on the town. Its very stylish, sexy, and yet practical and very warm and light in weight. I wanted to give thumbs up to Backcountry too... I ordered this coat online-it was on sale (Patagonia never goes on sale) and had it (during the Christmas season) in only a few days (and I live in Alaska). I've ordered other things from Backcountry and have the same great service. I am really picky with shopping online and I really like doing business with companies that provide great products, quickly and have great customer service-Backcountry is one company I will continue to business with over and over. Thanks for a great product and great customer service.

go a size up if you don't like tight

Rating:****
Just received the Fiona for myself and the Down Sweater for my boyfriend. We live in an underheated warehouse, and Boyfriend works in a freezing IT building. Except for showering, Boyfriend hasn't taken the Sweater off since I took it out of the package and handed it to him, 2 days ago. I have been watching him in envy! Sadly, the fit of the Fiona is a little too small for me in the upper back- it is restricting when I reach forward. It fits nicely everywhere else. I am an A cup, and I've been wearing a size small in Patagonia women's clothing for 12 years. This will be the first Patagonia item I've had to exchange for a bigger size! Yes, I appreciate the sexier, fitted cut of the Fiona, but I still want to be able to move with ease. (As I type this, I am comfortably reaching forward while wearing my size small, long down Patagonia coat from 3 years ago...)

Great Coat

Rating:*****
I adore the Fiona. I love how lightweight it is - makes it easy to run around doing errands, walking the dogs, etc. I have Patagonia's Down Sweater as well, and this is the equivalent in a coat style, except that it is cut leaner and therefore looks more fashion-forward. The chanterelle color is beautiful - kind of cream/gray shade. There is no compression sack pocket like there is in the Down Sweater, which is kind of a bummer because I am less likely to travel with it. I am fine with wearing the coat alone down to about 15 degree weather. After that, I think that you need to use it as a mid-layer, maybe wearing a capilene 4 baselayer underneath and/or topping it with a trench shell, like the Rain Shadow Trench Coat. I use it with the Rain Shadow Trench during wet and cold days, and they fit perfectly together!

Great coat, but need different colors

Rating:*****
I'm 5'8"/155lbs (usually size 10 on top), and this coat was perfect for me in size Large. I love the super warmth-to-weight ratio, and the length, and construction. I tried it out in Bitter Chocolate, which is alright, but not for me. I'm a pale redhead, and I prefer Navy or medium gray as a neutral, rather than beige, brown, or black; reds don't work with my skin at all. If this had been offered in another neutral, or the Green Oasis color, I'd have kept it. It's a really flattering shape, and could be rolled up and stuffed into a messenger bag if the weather warms up. Another great quality product.

Second Review, Love this Jacket!

Rating:*****

We were at our local outdoors store when my wife stumbled upon this jacket. She tried it on and fell in love! I didn't purchase it on the spot because of the price. Two weeks later I was on this website and saw they had it marked 20% off. My wife loves this jacket, yesterday it was 20 degrees outside, she took the dog for a walk, came back and said she never once got cold. This jacket is very thin, but keeps you oh so warm. Don't let the price stop you from buying this jacket, you will not regret it!

On a scale of 1 to 10, it's a 20

Rating:*****
This is the most comfortable, most versatile coat. It is extremely lightweight, feels like a cloud. This saved me last winter. I took so many walks in this coat and is shapely enough to wear out to dinner. It's extremely warm but seems to breathe so you don't overheat. It wears like a dream. My mother in law had to have one, my sister had to have one, my housekeeper had to have one. Love it, love it, love it. Usually wear size 6-8 on top, got a medium, perfect fit, non binding. Shopping for another as a gift now.

"Great Looking Jacket Just Not As Warm As Expected"

Rating:****
This jacket is super light - great to travel with. But like the other reviewer, I did not find the jacket to be as warm as expected given it is 800 down. This is a great jacket for the fall or slight chillly days but not the ideal jacket for a really cold winter day. I do like how it is a snug fit and A-line cut. Looks great. I bought a size M (normally S wear size 6) because I wanted to be able to layer below. Worked out fine.
Raquel at Moosejaw on 02/17/2009

Warm, lightweight, great fit

Rating:*****
The Fiona is my new favorite winter jacket. The materials make it very light and packable (PERFECT for traveling), but the 800 fill down is actually very warm. Just right for a snowy Utah winter. The fit is great: taylored and feminine, but roomy enough to accommodate a sweater underneath. And the style makes it very versatile. I wear mine out to nice dinners, to the grocery store, and on cold nighttime walks with my dog. I just wish I had this jacket when I went to Europe last winter!
Teleskier at Rock/Creek Outfitters on 12/29/2008

The perfect dresscoat

Rating:*****
If you are familiar with the down sweater, the fiona is a longer and dressier version of the down sweater. It is incredibly lightweight, but protects you from the coldest elements. The fiona hugs you in all the right places with it's feminine fit. It's incredibly comfortable, but perfect for dressy occassions and the color selections go with all your favorite outfits. Lastly, the two-way zippers allows for an extra range of motion if you have a long walk to work or just adventures around town.

Fiona is NOT the Down Sweater

Rating:*
I am so bummed. I have 3 Down Sweaters from Patagonia and LOVED the idea of the Fiona; but alas; they are not at all the same fit and I cannot wear it or buy two or three of them, I'm very disappointed. It misses the mark.

Weird fit

Rating:***
I normally wear an xs/s in all of patagonia tops, so naturally i figured a small in the fiona would be perfect. as other reviewers have stated, the small fit is EXTREMELY tight in the shoulders--so much so that reaching up and moving my arms around felt impossible. I sent the coat back in for a medium but it fit just as a medium should on me--too big. I ended up trading in for a down sweater in a size small which fits PERFECTLY. wish the sizing with these 2 coats were the same. i hope patagonia decides to work on their sizing issues for this coat for next season. I would really like a long, down parka. other than the sizing issue, the coat is beautiful and looks very chic.
cjrivers at Patagonia on 01/18/2009

Stylish yet not good for super-cold climes

Rating:***

I ordered this jacket from another retailer as I thought it would be sufficient for the -40 windchills of Chicago, but when I received it, there was a small hole in the left shoulder already and so returned it. Good thing I did, because as I was researching for somewhere else to buy it from, I found several reviews indicating that it was too lightweight for truly cold temperatures. Which is sad, as this coat fit like a dream, looked great, and had an excellent texture. Not for Chicago, but appropriate for places that don't get much colder than the 'teens. (I tried on the Large, which fit my super-long arms and torso while allowing for a shirt and thickish cardigan underneath. I'm 5'8", 160 lbs)

"A nice, slimming fall jacket"

Rating:***
This coat was my first experience with Patagonia and I do like this coat for windy, fall days in the mid-30 degree range thru the mid-50 degree range. Coat is very light, thin, and form-fitting. Being that it was called a parka with 800 down fill, I was honestly expecting a much warmer jacket more appropriate for below-freezing temps. So, for me it's just a very nice flattering fall jacket, but not one I would recommend to anyone needing substantial warmth and wind coverage. Ordered a different down coat from Moosejaw that is much better for cold weather.
Tracy at Moosejaw on 11/13/2008

Good jacket but.....

Rating:***
I was excited when I saw the Fiona Parka last year as it was stylish and cozy. Overall, those two factors did exceed my expectations until I noticed the outside material wearing away in one spot. I kept an eye on it and it continued to wear eventually creating a small hole in the jacket. I realized it was wearing in the spot where my purse (from patagonia) rubbed against the jacket which was on my hip. Just be careful what type of purse you use. Luckily patagonia exchanged my jacket for another more durable one!
jb at Patagonia on 09/11/2009

Heart of the autumn, maybe

Rating:***
I was excited when I saw this product. The styling is great, especially the below-knee length. Unfortunately, the jacket is much lighter than I expected. Based on the fact that it's an 800-fill down coat, I was hoping for something to get me through the hardest winter months.
If you're looking for a spring/fall jacket, or if you live somewhere without harsh weather, this is a fantastic piece. It's soft, beautiful, and (as with all Patagonia products) extremely well-made.
It didn't work for me, though.
Goober at Rock/Creek Outfitters on 12/05/2008

It's good however...

Rating:***
This jacket is extremely light and it looks great - I've been complimented - however, despite its 800-fill goose down, it does not keep me warm in 25- (or below) degree weather. It works like a charm in 30- to 40-degree climates, but it wasn't all I expected to be since I tend to get extremely cold.
