Just what I needed! |

As a school teacher who commutes a fair distance every day, I really needed a bag that would carry documents and school materials, a lunch and beverage, as well as a few personal items, including sometimes, and extra pair of clothing. The Half Mass allowes for all of this. The inner compartment, which is divided into 3 by an insert designed to hold a laptop allows me to keep any papers I need flat and away from condensation that sometimes develops when taking items out of a fridge. The side pocket holds a water bottle the width of a Nalgene without the feel that the material is going to tear. It has just enough pen/pencil holders and the mesh pocket on the inside is great for small personal items. The strap is heavy duty, but comfortable One thing that is a little curious to me is when you shorten the strap, the excess loop sort of hangs, but is held tight by the adjustment clip. Also, it would be nice if it had an insert where you could write name/adress/phone #. The material is waterproof barring a downpour and even then, it just might keep the content inside pretty dry. I would highly recommend this product, best bag I've ever had.

Bombproof bag and customer service |

I visited the Pasadena store to buy this bag for my Macbook Pro. They had the Half Mass, but not in the color I wanted, so the salesperson gave me a voucher to obtain free shipping for a potential online purchase--I took her up on it, and received the Half Mass in the cool dark green color. The bag is nice but has some shortcomings. It is very well made and the quality is evident upon inspection and usage. I do not like the fact that there is no way to hide/store the excess shoulder strap except for the side pocket (which is where I place my iPod); extracting my iPod is not an easy, fluid task because of the excess stowage of the shoulder strap (which always pops out--annoying). Also, the material that the shoulder strap is made of is beneath the 'standard' of the rest of the bag. Velcro usage is not appreciated by me in this application. Additional pockets should have been implemented into the design as well, as I seem to always be looking for a pocket that is 'not there'. Patagonia quality, aesthetic(s) and customer service is what I appreciate about this product.

I just purchased the half mass on sale and am SO happy I made the purchase. It is great quality, it has many pockets to put all your things in when you are on the go. The lap top fits perfectly and snug in a pocket protecting it from everything. The colors are great, I like this version much better than the newer one, it is definitely worth the money. Only down side, the strap resembles a seat belt which is weird because the whole bag is great quality, and the strap seems out of place.

This smaller version of the Critical Mass was bought for use as a handy book-and-laptop bag. It's become, instead, a daily companion, for those uses and more, holding in addition hat and sweater, and sometimes wallet and keys. Like the larger Critical Mass the shoulder strap is wonderful, comfortable, and adjustable. Little things could be improved. It's missing a place to put pens and cell phone, whether inside or on the out as in the Critical Mass. The flap compartment could be bigger. Still, I look forward to using this for many years.

i bought this pack about a month ago when i realized that i needed a messenger bag that would transition seamlessly between my business-like working environment and my grad school class. the half-mass does all of this it more. it's the perfect size for carrying a laptop, a couple of books, lunch, a light jacket, or whatever piece of nonsense i decided to throw in there. i'm also under the impression that the chicks dig it, but either way it's an awesome pack...

My super hot, awesome GF bought me the 50% off bag for nursing school and it's working out great. There have been some negative reviews about the stap sliding down but no prob here. unless your wearing the bag on the back of your neck you'll be straight. Great pockets, tons of space, computer pad is nice, very comfy to wear. Overall good bag to take anywhere...

This bag is very durable and I love it for getting my Mac Computer around town, I am a location manager and travel a great deal so when I can just take the removable cover out it is very convenient. I recommend this bag for people on the go who may not know what they need for the day and pack it all in.

This bag is awsome. I use it to stuff my gym clothes in. I can get a pair of running shoes, sweatpants, and shirt in it. The bag also has a bunch of different compartments for your cell, Ipod, etc. The only thing I do not like is the pad on the strap, it is HUGE.

I ordered this bag for my son for graduate school. He loves it. Says it has plenty of room for all his things. Seems very well made and looks good.
