Timeless comfort
I have three of these (well one I gave to my mom cause she was looking at it longingly). This is hands down the best hoodie I've ever had. The hood is deep, thanks to the three panel design, so full coverage is assured and it doesn't bunch up when it's down. The cuffs are huge and the elastic endures repeated pushing up my arms with aplomb, doesn't stretch much if at all. Good down to mid-40s with a brisk wind and only a t-shirt underneath. Throw a Lined Canvas Hoody over and you're good to 25 and strong winds. One note, the older versions had the front collar stitched together. I had to stitch it back together, but the newer ones have an overlap in the front. Great hoodie, Patagonia did right with this one.

People familiar with Patagonia, even those who work at Patagonia, complain about the company’s sizing inconsistencies. The Men’s Hooded Monk Sweatshirt is no different. What it comes down to is how you expect a sweatshirt to feel, that is, what is comfortable for you. That’s the bottom line. It is, after all, a sweatshirt. To me, that means loose-fitting comfort clothing, and I’m not talking about the baggy “gangsta†look. I’m 6 feet tall and weigh 150 pounds, and both the large and medium “look†fine on me; however, the medium is tight at the shoulders. If it shrank, I’d be out of luck. As with all Patagonia attire, it’s best to try on different sizes prior to purchase.
Solid buy
This hoodie is a great buy. Fit is designed just like a normal hodded sweatshirt but offers supreme feel. The shirt is 100 percent organic cotton making the shirt feel extremely soft and warm. However, due to the shirt being organic it will not shrink as much as a regular sweatshirt(something to keep in mind if your stuck between sizes). I use it all the time around the house, at school, and it works especially well under other jackets like: an r3, better sweater or rain jacket. All in all it a great everyday buy
Great comfort hoody
This product is thinner than most hoody sweatshirts but is just as warm as heavier models. I was suprised at how warm this is for the thickness. It does have a more athletic cut to it but it is not too tight. You can wear a long sleeve under it just as comfortably as a regular tee. I wear this around the house and it is really soft and warm. I am 5'10", 180lbs with an average build and the medium fits great.
Sweet hoody
This is a terrific hooded sweatshirt. It is easily the most comfortable hoody that I've ever owned, and the fit is excellent. I expected it to have a little more heft, but now that I've worn it a few times, I have no complaints. It's great for coaching basketball outdoors on a cool night, for casual wear and relaxing, and probably would be good for a run in colder weather or to throw on post-surf. I'm really pleased with this piece.
Great Lighterweight sweatshirt!
This is a really soft, comfortable, high quality and lightweight sweatshirt from Patagonia. It's nice a roomy without being too bulky. Soft fleece on the inside. The only thing that could be considered a con about this is that it's not heavyweight. If you're going to be in weather below the 40's you'll need to layer. Luckily it layers well under a heavier piece. I have five of these sweatshirts and really love them.
Most comfortable hoody ever
This thing is awesome. I've always thought that organic cotton is noticeably more comfortable than normal cotton, but the added pinch of spandex in this hoody brings it to another level. It's super soft but feels durable and stretches and moves with you. The hood hangs comfortably when not in use and sits on your head really well when in use. Safe yourself a trip, buy more than one the first time.
Insanely Comfortable Fit
Bought hoping to snag a hoody which both fit and didn't look like i was going to rob a bank. Blown away by the stretch of the material. I tend to prefer a thinner fabric, and this is a great example of thin but not to the point of being too cool.

Comfy
Seriously the most comfortable hoody I've ever owned. 5'10 - 170 and the medium fits good, still a very relaxed fit. Material is thin for a hoody, more of a t-shirt++ with fleece inside than a big thick hoody material like I'm used to. I also really like the paneled hood, it fits really well and stays on my head even when it's a little bit windy.
Great sweatshirt
This is a super comfortable top -- a definite go to piece of clothing. To Patagonia designers -- I agree with a previous reviewer that it would be nice to have the hooded monk sweatshirt without the logos or graphics. Just a simple "patagonia" embroidered on the front would be a nice option and I suspect a best seller...

Not what I expect from Patagonia...
I'm extremely disappointed in this product. I'm actually a little embarrassed that I bought this as a gift for my husband for Father's Day. I thought that it would be the same great quality of other Patagonia gear that we have purchased, but that's just not the case here. The fabric is thin and feels cheap. "Patagonia" isn't even on the sweatshirt anywhere so it really just looks like a cheap shirt we picked up at the drug store! :( It's not worth the hassle of returning it and it's DEFINITELY not worth the $80 I payed for it!
A bit disappointed
I bought this half off during the websale so I'm only a bit disappointed with it... I figure the way the sweatshirt looks may be worth near the $35 I paid. If I had paid the full price I would have been extremely disappointed because the material is so so thin and it will probably hang like a rag after ten washes. Much thinner and lower quality than an average sweatshirt. Not typical of my other Patagonia gear and apparel that I love.
