versatile ice and mixed layer

For two weeks of ice in the Canadian Rockies, this piece, my R1 hoody, and my guide pants with other assorted layers made up my uniform. The Knifeblade was trim around the arms and chest--a bit too roomy in the abdomen. I'm 5'10" and 140 pounds, the medium was a great fit the arms were even long enough. This piece kept me dry on nozzle pitches and warm when the spindrift blew. The fabric was substantial enough to hook a tool over my shoulder yet flexible enough to reach high for a stick. All the features I wanted without unnecessary pockets and zippers. I wish Patagonia would stop making serious ice pieces in pink, how about a nice red or blue or green? Glad to have the option for grey.

Pink pullover paradise

Finally the answer to the soft shell problem! The perfect pullover keeps the zipper bulk out from under the harness or pack belt. It has great mobility in the shoulders and plenty of length. I was running in Washington rain in the Knifeblade (the pink is great for visibility). It is great to be able to train and climb in the drizzle without sweating my brains out.

From icy chimneys to alpine pushes.

The Knifeblade Pullover is one of my "go to" pieces. The softshell Polartec Power Shield Pro fabric blocks the wind but still allows me to breathe when struggling up hard pitches. The durability of the fabric is perfect for harsh climbing conditions, like icy chimneys. In using a half-zip design the piece is far less bulky and tucks perfectly into my harness for an alpine day.

Best Softshell EVER!!!

Well worth the green. I absolutely love this jacket, I don't know what else to say. I wish there were pit zips...but, this jacket is super breathable which I really like. Other softshells I have tend to be heavier and lock in heat. This is perfect for a cardio excercise on crisp mornings. I would totally recommend this jacket!

Best yet

This is the best soft-shell jacket I've worn yet. It is light, keeps me dry even when clmbing wet ice, and is stretchy and well-cut so it moves with me rather than confines me. Also the neck comes up high on my face and is soft and not too tight. Gotta love the pink!
