perfect for savage elements

This beanie is amazing and should not be used just for cloudy days. This is definitely a winter season beanie. It is a wool-like fabric on the outside, with a super warm, wind-stopper fleece liner. It fits pretty snug, but I like that. After a few days of adventuring, it will loosen up a bit. I have worn this while backpacking, and in very cold temps. Just recently, I wore it while snow camping at -8* in the Sierras. I wore it during the day and even in my sleeping bag, and it never "walked" off my head like other beanies have. It breathes, and doesn't hold onto that "unwashed hair/backpacking smell" like other fabrics do.
The not so great-But shouldn't stop anyone from buying this beanie- the color. I'm not very fond of the color and pattern, even though it is signature to Patagonia. People that hike with me say it's a plus, because they can pick me out from the brush or other people further up on the trail. The other downer, though not really a big deal, the back of the hat has a seam. And for most uses, this is no big deal. After wearing it for 3-4 days straight, the seam and the patagonia patch can be the teeniest bit annoying against your skin.

My New Favorite Hat

This is quite possiby the best hat I've purchased...its very well made. The tight stitching and soft lining keeps my head warm and stays put all day....this is a very good thing in my book. (I should write a novel and include this hat in it) I hate a sloppy hat. I will be wearing this hat on all my cold weather fishing adventures. Ice fishing the Saginaw Bay or freezing my butt off Steelhead fishing in early spring... did I mention it has a BA fish stitched on the front? A great hat, and it looks good too.The Joe

The perfect winter hat.

I'm a college student and I have to walk a lot (at least 3-4 miles a day). When the weather starts to get nasty in the winter, there are few articles of clothing more important than a nice warm hat. I've had my Patagonia hat for almost two winters now and it hasn't let me down yet. It's very warm and comfortable and it looks good. It covers my ears when I need it to and I can pull it up slightly when I don't. It's a high quality hat and definitely worth every penny.

It's kind of hard to screw up a beanie, Patagonia did a pretty good job here.
Pros: Nice soft liner, warm and good construction.
Cons: For the UL'ers it is heavier than my arcteryx but they seem to both keep my head warm.
When it comes down to it I think with beanies it is what you want your head to look like. My wife wanted mine to look like a fish I guess.

Nice and snug

If your head is a bit large, you're going to have to stretch this hat out a bit. When it first arrived I assumed it was a small, turns out that snug fit is key to the warmth.

great beanie

tightly knit and form fitting on a big head like mine. I typically wear XL fitted hats and this thing fit me perfect after a day of wear. Very comfortable and I really like the vintage fitz roy....

High Function and Style

Really great lid! Size is perfect - its big enough to pull down over the ears for more coverage if needed. Polyester lining keeps it itchless. Very toasty. I will be picking up a couple more.

Very warm hat

Fleece lined, so this will keep you warm in the dead of winter. Probably too warm for anything besides winter. Seemed a little large, but I may just have a small head. Colors look great.

This a warm hat with nice design. It could be a little more form fitting on the top of the head.

Everyone needs a basic beanie like this to keep their noggin warm.
