Very nice; sleeves tight

Rating:****
I have two Margot tank dresses and I like them a lot. I was excited to see the longer sleeved version. I am normally a medium in Patagonia, but I ordered both the medium and the large based on reviews here. The medium fit much better in the top and overall, although: the sleeves were tighter (BOTH versions were too tight!) and honestly, the stomach area was more flattering in the large. I went with the medium though, as I liked the more fitted look on top. I wore it to the party I bought it for, and was okay with the fit. Later, I wore it over yoga pants with my Addie coat over it. A very cute look, but I was shopping at the mall and using my arms a lot. In this situation, with the second cotton layer, it was a lot less comfortable. That's a shame, because I would wear it all the time if the arms were not so constrictive. As it stands it will probably be relegated to dinners and parties. Patagonia usually fits me impeccably on top - I have the sort of build these things are cut for. Although this dress is designed to be a slim fit, those arms are just cut way too slim for comfort. If you compare the fit on the arms to say, the same size Serenity top, or Patagonia baselayers, which are also supposed to be a slim fit, there's a real world of difference. Although I realize it wouldn't look good with LOOSE arms, I think they could have achieved the same look while allowing for a little more comfort. I would not buy another unless they adjust that for next season.

Incredible versatile dress

Rating:*****
I first bought two of the summer versions of the Margot dress, one in black and the other in a blue print. They are both very comfortable and classy. I wore the little black dress to a beach wedding that had an in town reception. Accessories transform these dresses from daytime shoppers to evening out show stoppers. I also got another sleeveless Margot for a gift and this was a wonderful surprise as it is a color I had wanted.
I loved these two summer versions so much that I could not wait to get the versions with sleeves. Just like before, I got two: a print and the solid black one. I live in Florida where all of the Margot dresses can be worn most of the year quite comfortably. The versions with sleeves will make it to the concerts we attend in the winter and be able to take me shopping for groceries just as nicely. I have found two perfect "little black dresses" and three other perfect dresses as well to round out my wardrobe.
The slim fit is perfect for my shape but not too tight or clingy. I am short and slender. I wear an XS and the dress runs true to size. The fabric is soft and drapes well. The finish is well done and the garment well made.
I have only positive things to say about this dress from Patagonia.

Super comfortable dress!

Rating:*****
I really love this dress, and it's going to be one of my staples for sure! It is rather low-cut, so for times when I want to be dressy, it's great, and I can throw on a camisole when I want to be a bit more modest. I do wish that the pleats in the band over the middle was a bit more anchored, I found that after I washed the dress the waistband bulged a bit and I had to iron the pleats back into to keep it looking flat. I think that the dress would be absolutely perfect if it was made with the same fabric that the Morning Glory dress is made out of, instead of cotton. I got the dress in black and you know how black cotton gets after multiple washings (and how it picks up fluff!). The Morning Glory fabric seems to hold up really well to lots of wear (I have the Morning Glory halter dress too) I'm 5'1", and 124 lbs, and the medium fits perfectly! I can wear it with my flip flops, or heels, and it's especially fun with tall boots. I always get women asking me where I got the dress!

lovely casual dress

Rating:*****
I got the brownish-purplish print, which is flattering to folks who look good in dark brown. I wasn't sure it would be on me, since maroon/burgundy is not my color, but it looks great. I love the fit of the arms. I was a little worried that the torso fit was too tight, but the printed version really looks better on me in that region. I think that it runs small, since I wear "x-small" or "small" quite easily in garments from other companies, but this dress is a bit borderline, size-wise, and I ordered a small. One of my few complaints about Patagonia clothes, however, is that the sizing is unpredictable. I do require a camisole underneath, since it is VERY low in the front if you are semi-modest like me. Actually, it also looks great over jeans, since it's short enough to do the skirt over pants look, if you're into that. It looks a little dressier in the picture online/in the catalog than it is in real life, but for me, that's ok.

good fit

Rating:*****
first off, i want to state that i believe in this company, everything they stand for, yahda, yahda. i really like this dress a lot. the pattern hides the bulge i am self-conscious about at my thighs, along with the a-line. i can still be kinda daring with the neck line or wear a cami under it. the fact that is cotton in a plus also. to tell the truth because of the other reviews i was scared that the top would be too tight or my breast would fall out. that didn't happen. a bit about me, so that you understand fit. i am an athletic 40 year, i surf, run, bike, what ever, but no basketball. i am a 36b on top, and hips at 37-38, depends on how the month is going. i have no idea what my waist is. i am a massage therapist. i wore this to my boyfriend's family turkey day dinner and felt fine....and i dress for comfort in my life.

2009 Margot Dress: New and (partially) Improved!

Rating:****
For those of you who had to return the dress from 2008 because of the super tight sleeves that felt like arm guillotines, I've got good news; the 2009 version comes with better fitting sleeves. Overall fit seems to be better too. The belt is placed slightly higher than last year's model and it makes the body look shorter and legs longer. The material feels softer, which I think is better suited for the dress's design. So there have been some significant improvements. I am sad to say however that the length of the dress, which a lot of reviewers last year complained to be too short, remains the same. I am 5'3", 100lbs and usually wear XS. The dress falls just above my knees standing up. It rises far above when I sit down. I wish it were maybe an inch or so longer. Having said all that the Tea Flower pattern in bitter chocolate is very cute.

Pretty and versatile dress. I originally bought the sleeveless version of this dress & loved it so much I decided to buy it in the longer sleeve version in black. Note it has 3/4 sleeves and is so versatile you could wear it with flats or dress it up with heels. I am so happy I read all the reviews regarding sizing because it does run small/slim fit. I wear a size 8 dress & am 5'10", B cup bra & I ordered the large. Fits perfectly. The v-neck is deep but you can wear a regular bra & it won't show (even with the sleeveless version, the bra straps won't show). Doesn't cling, but is shaped to your body. Love it! And, Zappos is the best; shipped perfectly overnight.

Great when you find the right size

Rating:****
This is a delightful piece that travels well and can dresses up a bit or down, as many have noted. I'm 5'6" and it's short (above knee length) but I love it over yoga tights or jeans, or with tights and boots in cool weather. The latest versions for 2009, I've found the sizing to be a bit inconsistent. I'm a Med in almost all things Pata, yet the Med Bitter Choc print is too narrow across my shoulders and chest (36A), while the large hangs like a sack over rib cage. Condor Grey fit more true to size. I recommend trying on in store if possible. The sleeves fit well, no binding at all even on my well developed biceps.

I love this dress! I wanted something that was comfortable to wear (I hate stiff and/or itchy clothes), that could be dressed up or down for different occasions. This dress is soft, stretchy and comfortable; the 3/4 sleeves make it wearable for all but the hottest weather; it is very flattering; and can look casual with flip-flops or dressed up with a nice necklace and heels. I am 5'3" and 130 lbs, I am pretty much always a size 6 and the "Small" fit perfectly. One caveat: the v-neck is pretty low, especially if you have cleavage. I put a camisole under it for daytime occasions; with the right bra it is quite sexy for evening!

Wearing AWESOME and how it feels. This dress is comfortable. It fits me like a glove. A sexy glove. I did not have to buy a drink at all, of course I was at a wedding and they were free, but I also did not have to get up and get one either. I was a little skeptical to wear this dress to a hundred thousand dollar wedding, but at the end of the night, I looked great, and was comfortable. Unlike most of the other woman clawing at the boning in their dresses, looking miserable. All in all, patagonia makes great technical gear, and now they can add glamour to their portfolio.

terrible fit

Rating:**

i thought this dress fit awful---i normally wear a small (5'7, 130 lbs) and purchased this dress in a medium--however, the sleeves were still incredibly tight on my bicep. On the plus side, the chest (34A) and hips fit really well.

Odd fit... This dress just wasn't exactly what I expected. I ordered a medium, which was generally too big except in the shoulders and arms where it was a bit snug. The waist hit higher than I had expected and the hips were pretty full, creating a NOT very flattering wide-hipped look. Also, the material was not as soft as I expected an organic cotton to be. It was sort of stiff, like a material better suited for exercise clothes than a dress. The V-neck was very deep and definitely required a camisole (otherwise my bra showed). Overall, I think this could be a cute dress, maybe it just didn't fit me! I'm considering re-ordering a smaller size because I love the idea of this dress, but I'm worried the dress still won't be very flattering and the arms and shoulder-area might be too small in a smaller size?

Nice, but not me.

Rating:***

This is a nice fitted dress. Seemed to be good quality material. However, I'm 5'3" and 122lb. When I put it on, my daughter immediately informed me I looked like a nun. My man felt the same way about it. Said it was nicely fitted, but too matronly. So I returned it. I'm sure if you're a scarf/jewelry person you could make it look more fun. Just didn't look great on me. So I returned it. By the way...returns are SUPER easy and very fast!

beautiful dress but not for me

Rating:***
I had to send it back. I was very bummed. It did not fit me over the shoulders at all. Way to tight and also to big around the waist. If there was a XL it would maybe fit me over the shoulders but then it would be huge around the waist. I am a size 8 pants and W XL or more like a Mens M in upper body. A little hard for me to find dresses that fit right.

For small chests only

Rating:***
This dress seemed comfy and super flattering, except for one critical detail: no room for breasts (average C cup). This dress would be awesome for women with small chests but otherwise has totally inadequate coverage.

Cute dress but have to return it. I normally wear a small in Patagonia dresses, but this was much too small - should have been sized as XS.
