| I bought a zip front wool sweater from Patagonia years ago. I wore it constantly for several winters, wore holes in the elbows and had them patched, and generally loved the sweater all too much. It's stretched and baggy now, it's got holes and sewn spots hither and thither, and the cuffs are beginning to fray, but it's still a great piece and I still knock around in it regularly. This new sweater is thicker and closer fitting than the old one. It has a nice heft and color and is well constructed. Color appears true to the web ad. I got a large. I'm 5'10" 165lbs., a bit of a paunch but a fundamentally skinny frame; the body is a good for me and would accomodate a larger torso than mine, but the sleeves are snug on my skinny arms. The fabric is stretchy and would accomodate more girth but it might look tight. Then again maybe that would add a certain appeal... Heh, the review software doesn't allow the word s-e-x. Downsides: The fabric is a bit itchy but then I'm very sensitive to that. I've only had it for a few weeks and it's already pilling, which is a small disappointment; time will tell if it continues or if it's just because it's new. I wish the collar would stay flattened when I want it to be so but that is also something that may change over time. And I would have liked elbow reinforcement. None of that is to say that this is not a fine piece -- it is. I fully expect this sweater to last as long and become as treasured as my first one, and that is no small thing. | |

surprising warmth | |

| Unexpectedly as warm as toast --even on a windy day. It surpassed my outer jacket. Most likely due to the loft of the material --thicker than is customary. Keep in mind if other samples are like mine, it'll be a bit generous-fitting. Oddly, color representation, was not up to Patagonia's usual perfection (just calibrated monitor). Still good-looking. | |

| A wonderful cardigan for both impressing the in-laws or running to the local coffee shop. And still versatile enough to go to work on a cord of wood for the nights warmth. A truly wonderful sweater which will be worn for many years to come. | |

Long sleeves | |

| Nice piece. Looks good. Incredibly warm. My only gripe is that the sleeves are inordinately long for the size (and, generally, Patagonia stuff fits me to a T). The sleeves could be a couple of inches shorter. | |

| Like a good Scotch, wool is my new best friend. This Cardigan works as a great mid layer, or main layer for city SF City livin. The best part, no itchyness! | |
