Patagonia

Merino 4 is a reliable companion when the destination remains unknown. Our warmest merino layer, it offers the best option for cool to very cold weather. Naturally soft and beautiful, it's made with 7.8-oz 100% merino wool that has a dense jersey-knit face for thermal efficiency and resilience and a terry-loop back for next-to-skin comfort. Merino naturally resists odor, moves moisture away from the skin, regulates body temperature, and stretches. Features include a smooth self-fabric collar, set-in sleeves and offset shoulder seams, and overlock seams for a clean aesthetic. We slow-wash our merino for next-to-skin softness. Machine-wash cold; lay flat to dry. Recyclable through the Common Threads Recycling Program.

Great Product

Rating:*****
I own a lot of Patagonia gear (perhaps too much Patagonia gear) but without question this is my favorite. I wear the Wool 4 crew on backpacking trips. When the weather is warmer it's the only top I wear and as the temp drops I just layer on top of it but it is always on. I don't overheat with this top and it has kept me warm in Northern Idaho winter nights. But the top is not just a technical baselayer. My girl friend begs me to wear something else around the house or when we are out for a walk around Seattle. It is the perfect top and I'm not ashamed to admit that own several of them to ensure that I always have a clean one ready. Great Product.

Perfect sleeping top for winter camping

Rating:*****
This is a perfect top for winter camping. It's really warm, soft, and fits slim enough to allow for more layers like a fleece sweatshirt. Very expensive...but I found a great deal at the outlet in Reno on my way back from Bishop. Totally worth it though.

baselayer?

Rating:*****
The 4 weight wool is sold in the baselayer section of the catalog, and it is great for that purpose, but the wool is soft enough to wear next to the skin and is thick enough to wear as a shirt with nothing over it.

It feels like a warm fluffy dream to put on and helps you maintain the perfect temperature in any condition. A perfect layer.

Exceptional performance, particularly on cold blustery days atop Mt Mansfield. Made all the difference in the world. Would highly recommend.
