The Men's Nine Trails Jacket from Patagonia is their lightest shell which provides wind and weather protection for high-output pursuits. Somewhere between the Bridger Ridge Run (for normal trail runners) and The Barkley Marathons (for the insane), we all find Patagonia's stride. The Nine Trails' wind- and water-resistant 100% nylon is treated with a Deluge DWR (durable water repellent) finish. Its exceptionally breathable stretch-woven back and underarm panels (90% polyester/10% spandex) vent excess heat, so you stay dry. The high-rise tricot-lined neck and stretch binding at the wrists and drawcord hem provide a tight seal. The jacket stashes into its own internal chest pocket. Reflective heat-transfer front and back logos.

An essential piece | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I've looked for many years to find the perfect piece to throw in the pack for long runs in variable weather. Patagonia's Nine Trails Jacket is finally the solution. It's super lightweight and compressible, and it easily fits inside a small race-day hip pack leaving plenty of room for gels, blister packs and other necessities. However, I was most impressed with its performance. It has a comfortable fit, but is sleek enough to not get whipped around in the wind, and the longer cut in the back keeps the jacket from riding up when wearing any sort of backpack. When caught out in a thunderstorm or gusty winds the jacket keeps my body temperature right where it should be with its combination of breathability and and protection from the elements. In the middle of the night as temperatures dropped at last years Wasatch 100, I threw on the Nine Trails as I headed up out of the Brighton Ski Area. The jacket performed so well that I never even noticed that I had it on and was able to cruise through the remaining aid stations and finish strong, as other runners had to stop and warm up with hot soup. All in all, the Nine Trails is light enough to include in an adventure of a few hours and protective enough to include in longer excursions. It is a must have for any runner, hiker, biker or any one else who doesn't let weather get in the way of a great day (or night!) on the trails. | |

Excellent piece of trail gear!

| Patagonia makes excellent gear and they nailed it with this jacket. A moderately athletic cut allows for good movement when running, the back fabric is a nice touch and enables moisture to move freely and sweat to evaporate quickly, preventing the clammy feeling that happens with so many other shells. I've worn this jacket as a standalone piece with no baselayer underneath on brisk mornings with no problems, it feels great next to skin as the shell material is soft handed. Perfect for those chilly start runs in the morning around 40-50F then shed it after you warm up. I wouldn't use this on the windiest of days, as it does breathe quite a bit, so not the best at cutting really brisk wind. I hope Patagonia brings this jacket back with one update, thumbholes! | |

"perfect for cycling and running = = light, windproof & breathable"

| if you want something that's Breathable, the Lighter the Better, Form Fitting, Well-Made, Articulated for Movement .... this fits my outside runs, even when it's winding or cold i just put a capilene underneath to keep the wind out but stay breathable, or when i take my road bicycle out i do the same and ride at a consistent 20mph and stay protected from the wind while never heating up, i've tried cycling jackets and they're never quite right they're either too breathable and not helpful in the wind or they're windproof and water proof/resistant and then they don't breath. This jacket is great for anything you want to reduce weight, maintain core temperature, and keep the wind out | |

Great Lightweight Windbreaker

| This is a great jacket. I use it for running and it's awesome. The fit is just right; slim fit, perfect length torso & sleeves. I LOVE having the stretch woven fabric on the back and underarms. It really improves breathability while blocking out the wind where you need it. It's also waterproof thanks to the DWR and it packs down next to nothing. Only complaint is that the zipper should be a little bit longer. You can see in the pic where the jacket rises up to where the zipper is. Not sure why it does this. | |

Nine Trails - 5 stars | |

| I keep this jacket in my back back on long trail runs for when the weather changes (packs up nice and small, see my picture above). It's light as a feather, sheds water pretty well, yet still breathes if I just need to stay warm. I like the stretch panels under arms and back. It also comes down a little lower in the tail which helps with water mud splashing up on my back, but not down my shorts. | |

Excellent trail running jacket

| This jacket is perfect when you are out all day and want a little something in reserve in case the weather changes. It's very lightweight but does an excellent job keeping you warm enough if the wind starts blowing. I use it for trail running and the stretch panels do indeed provide adequate breathability. | |

| Fantastic running jacket. I use this and the houdini jacket constantly on my runs. I love the tapered sleeves and this vents well. I think a back pocket sewn on this puppy and maybe a sleeve key pouch near your wrists so you know you haven't lost it, and i'd be in heaven. | |

Great for cycling, too | |

| I bought this jacket to wear as a top layer while cycling in what folks in Southern California call "cold weather." It's light, easily stored in my seat bag or back pocket, and breaths just enough that I'm not a sweat sandwich when wearing it. I love it. | |

| I use it for running and road cycling. Very light weight, breathes well, it has stretch panels on the back, axillary and wrist area. Excellent function, great portability, when you don't want bunch of gear cluter on your run or bike ride. | |
