Positive Reviews:

Patagonia surprises me!

I love a nice surprise, don't you? I spotted the Pelage jacket in a store in Maine while on vacation. And it was love at first sight. Expecting a high-end fashion label, I was delighted to discover the jacket is from Patagonia. I knew it would be well-made and durable. The best part is it's much more: stylish, pretty, practical & fun, so comfortable to wear and the plush, curly fleece is absolutely scrumptious. When someone hugs you they always comment on how soft it is and how good it feels. Dressed up or dressed down, it feels good wearing it too.
I've read all the reviews and the issues of sizing and fit come up more than once. I am 5'6" and slender with long arms. I could wear a size Small, but chose a Medium because I want a longer sleeve. My daughter, who is 5'9" and also slender, is getting a Pelage jacket for Christmas. She tried on my Medium jacket and decided to go with a Large size to gain a little more room in the shoulder area, and overall length of the jacket. I picked the jacket in cocoa husk; it has a rich chocolate lining. My daughter is getting the nickel color, and it has a darker grey lining. Both are beautiful. If you are considering the Pelage jacket, go ahead and order it. I think you'll be glad you did.

Patagonia quality with Style

I LOVE this jacket, though for different reasons than I love my other Patagonia gear. This one I would wear to work in the city. It is fun and fashionable, while still warm and functional. The funnel neck keeps me warm. It is just what some of the other reviewers have said - short, but that's the vintage styling. I'm 5'7" 120lbs and bought a small. I bought the off-white color because I just loved it and would likely wear it more than any other color. Since it's Patagonia - it will be easy to maintain in a light color. The fleece is yummy soft but not bulky, and drapes nicely. Had this been some other brand, I might have hesitated, unsure if the quality was there, beyond the good looks. If you are buying this coat to wear for an extreme athletic adventure - choose something else. But - if you love Patagonia quality and have been looking for ways to sneak it into your work wardrobe, this is your coat.

Simple Yet Elegant

This jacket was a wonderful find. When zipped/buttoned up the stand-up collar and slight swing make for a lovely silhouette, but the jacket is equally attractive when left open, the collar lying flat and neckline forming lapels. The fleece is very soft and was mistaken by all my friends for rabbit fur. Odd as it sounds when talking about a fleece, this jacket in the pearl color is elegant enough for eveningwear. And it's quite warm to boot.
As to sizing, I'm 5'8", 120 lbs, with a slim build. I bought the Small, which fits perfectly. The shoulders are spot on, and the sleeves are the right length for my long arms. The overall length is not quite to my hips. By comparison, in other Patagonia outerwear (Nano Puff Pullover, Torrentshell Jacket) I take an X-Small.

fun for fall

This jacket was just what I wanted for the fall, and I have already received numerous compliments on it. It has been fantastic to throw on over my clothes for that extra layer. I like that it is a swing style, because I can wear it over longer tunics that look funny under my slimmer jackets. The material is so soft and fits in perfectly with the current faux fur craze. My favorite part of the jacket is the collar, which looks great down or up like a funnel neck. I am almost always an XS unless I want to layer something really bulky underneath, but I found that this jacket was really tight in the bust and shoulders and was short in the arms. I bought the S, which fits me perfectly.

Love at first sight

I saw the grey in a store recently and did a double take. When I saw it was Patagonia I was thrilled. I love everything Patagonia. I wanted to see what other colors were available, I ended up buying the white online. I love, love, love this jacket. It has a boxy swing style. This will be worn to work, my kids sporting events, and everything in between. I ordered a medium, I am always a medium (5'8, 140 lbs). Because of the boxy style it is somewhat tailored through the shoulders. So if you are between sizes go for the higher. The lining for the white is a grey color. The lining for the grey jacket is hot pink and very cute. You'll love this jacket, go for it!

Elegant

There are some pieces of apparel that make you feel special each time you wear them, and this is one of those! It has a certain dressy quality and feels so luxurious I know I will wear it a lot, even though I'm a mostly casual dresser. I bought the cardamom color in XS. (I'm 5'3", 110 lbs.). I was afraid that the color might have too much yellow in it, but it doesn't; it's a very neutral light brown. I am keeping the XS, but if I intended on wearing it with heavier sweaters, I would switch for the Small. However, I see this as a fall piece to wear over medium to light-weight layers. Wonderfully cozy & soft. Love it!!

Over a wedding dress? Indeed! Great jacket!

I bought this for my December wedding in the Pacific Northwest after I realized I would otherwise freeze with just a scarf over my shoulders. It's a super fun jacket and I received tons and tons of compliments on it. It also kept me warm even for pictures outside when the wind was howling through the mist. This jacket definitely has a different fit than most Patagonia products (I'm usually a medium, and went with a large, for the overall and sleeve lengths. I'm 5'11" and slim). It's swingy for certain, but in a good way, and if it ever stops raining will be great for a night out or to wear to work.

Beautiful Jacket

This is such a surprisingly special jacket! It looked nice when I saw it online while shopping for fleeces for my sons, but until it arrives, you won't know how special it is. I wanted pearl as I love furry white jackets, but it was sold out in my size so I bought the tawny color. Tonight as I entered a restaurant, a woman stopped me saying she loved my jacket and had tried to find it all over the US. I am flying To AZ for a week and will wear it as a cosy wrap on the plane and in the evenings there, very light, VERY pretty. You need this jacket!

words can't describe how awesome this jacket is...

... but I'll try anyway. cuddly. soft. plush. best ever. flattering. lovely. beautiful. in short, this just may be my most favorite jacket out of all the ones i've worn over the course of my 35 years. re: ordering, when other reviewers say order a size up, it's true. i'm usually a small, but medium is PERFECT. and i tend to wear petite sizes, but this is PERFECT length-wise. it took a LOT to find somewhere that had the pearl color in stock. it was totally worth it. if patagonia decides to make the black version in women's sizes, i will be all over it.

Classy and Cool

I saw this in a few different magazines and decided to give it a go. It's definitely not a style that I'd expect to find at Patagonia, but am so happy that I did. I ordered the XS in cream and am a size 2. The boxy fit does give it a really nice retro spin and it dresses up jeans like no other. It's super soft, snugly and warm. My only wish is that the snaps were a bit bigger. They're a little hard to find but that also makes the jacket look classier when it's worn open. Either way I absolutely love it!

Negative Reviews:

beautiful to look at, impractical to wear

Bought 2 of these jackets, one for myself and one as a gift. While the snaps that close the jacket are well hidden, they are very difficult to open - if you pull them open, the material will certainly eventually tear. The only way to open them safely is to insert your nail between the 2 halves of the snaps. Takes a lot of effort. Also the collar gapes too much - allows cold air in and looks odd. The gift jacket is an XL. Sizing is way off for an XL woman. I am very petite but the shoulders and upper arms on the XL were not that large on me. Definitely wouldn't fit an XL woman comfortably. Sadly will be returning both jackets as I usually love Patagonia products.

If you want to make an entrance....

this is the noisiest coat you'll ever buy. i tried it with many different shirts underneath and all the same effect. I felt like a walking plastic bag. Also a very strong color lining for it not to be shown online, especially when it's easily meant to be seen. I do not do pink, especially hot pink, so it was a shock when it arrived. Overall is wasn't that comfortable either, I've loved the Patagonia brand for years and was happy to find something a little more stylish but this coat was a real mistake on their part.

Loud

I sent this jacket back for a couple reasons. It sounded like I was wearing a garbage bag. I felt this was a little shorter than I would like. It hit me higher on the waist than I thought it would. It also looked a little 70s pimp jacket. Also, not flattering to my shape. I'm 5'5 and 135 lbs. I got a small. The cut made my rear look large.
JinSanJose at Patagonia on 11/28/2012

Poor fit

I bought this for my wife (as she saw it and said that she had finally found a "cute" windproof garment) and the fit was all wrong... Short in the arms and oddly baggy around the core. It's a great jacket in theory, but we immediately returned it. She was sadly disappointed, had high hopes for this one I think
TXOutdoors at Patagonia on 12/31/2011

fit funny

We have bought a lot of Patagonia products over the years and will continue to do so. The women's Pelage jacket just fit my wife funny was not uncomfortable just fit funny. She really like the style and the curly polyester look. She would recommend this jacket to others it just for some reason did not fit her correctly.
onefastbiker at Patagonia on 01/13/2013

Too short!

I love this jacket and want it badly but it's just too darn short and looks really dumb on. It would need to be about 4" longer for me to wear it.

Pelage jacket

This jacket is very thin and does not drape right. I'm returning it.

Neutral Reviews:

cozy, not the best fit

I love the idea of this jacket, yet when I wear it just doesn't seem to fit quite right. I ordered a large and it feels a big baggy for being an elegant jacket. Perhaps I should exchange for a medium, but it will likely be too tight around the chest. hmm.
mapper at Patagonia on 12/13/2011

Looked better in photo

I was so excited to get this jacket. The feel is everything I thought it would be, but the color seemed to have more red tones in it than the light brown I was hoping for. It just didn't fit me the way I had hoped.
