Cute and different

I bought this because I wanted a swimsuit for traveling around Southeast Asia, something cute I could wear to the beach one day but then wear rafting the next. The Kupala Top definitely fills that role. I have yet to actually wear it out, but it looks great on and feels more supportive than your usual string-bikini top. I thought the ties might be hard to do (since I'm a tie-in-the-front-and-twist-around girl), but pretty easy actually :)
I'm 5'7" 125lbs and wear a 34C bra (although I have a small ribcage and should actually wear a 32C). Since I'm a small C, I bought a small size in the Kupala Top, but a medium could have worked just as well probably. I fill out the small but am not spilling out. I would suggest anyone who is an average to large C get a medium or larger depending on other measurements.

Fits athletic build nicely

It was a toss up between this one and the Bibiana as I like the sports bra look of the Bibiana so I almost bought that one but I went with this one because the strappy look in the back is really cute. I have the build of a rock climber (small in the chest - large in the back) and the straps really accentuate an athletic build. The size small fits perfect. I'm not sure if I like the padding yet, but so far it hasn't bothered me since it isn't too thick. I usually don't spend this much money on swim wear but I love Patagucci and I'd like to say that I'll wear it til it falls apart, but this stuff lasts forever, so I may be wearing this suit in the nursing home.

Flattering top!

I love the look of this top. It is very different from all of my swimsuit tops, I have mostly halter tops. I really like the way the straps are designed and they seem to stay in place, even when swimming laps. The one thing I did notice is when the top is wet, it becomes loose easily and the pads can move around. I originally bought a small, I'm a 34B, but it ended up being too big and I exchanged it for an XS which fits a lot better. Overall, I love this top and would love to buy another one in a different print. It's practical, stylish and comes in pretty prints.

i like the top. purchased with the black board shorts. i am 5'9" about 150 pounds and fit a size 36 b bra. the size large fits well without a lot of string hanging from where the suit ties in the back. i could use a bit more room for comfort around my chest but was afraid if i got an xl in the top that the front or cup part of the suit would sag too much. so, i am happy with the size l. i got a size 12 for the board shorts and they seem to hang comfortably from my hips.

Pretty and Functional

I really like this top but the reason I gave it only 4 stars is the redesign. I'm okay with the wider, more substantial band at the bottom, but I'm just not crazy about the crossover front. I have last year's style without the crossover front and I think it is more flattering and fits more comfortably. I also love that the straps cross and tie at the back - I absolutely hate halter style tops because I find the tie at the back of the neck to be irritating and uncomfortable. I am a small 34B and the size small fits well.

Cool, but like previous year's better

Awww, sad that one of my fave bikini in the history of the world has been redesigned. The Kupala is my go-to for pretty much everything surf and beach play. (I don't use it for serious pool swimming because I'm a drawstring bottoms kind of girl in the pool.) Anyway, put me down for a yes vote for the old skool design without the crossover in the front. I think the previous year's design is more flattering. Still, if you are looking for a quality top that is super workable for playing in water, recommend the Kupala. <3 you, Patagonia!

Awesome!!!

Ok I never write reviews, but had to sign up to encourage the ladies who loathe swim suit purchasing. This is hands down the best swim top ever. I bought it full price last week and now am buying more on this sale. I'm 40ish so my sisters need a little extra help..even though they are only B. I guess the support is great because of the adjusting ties. I took out the cups and replaced with my lululemon and I am happy as a clam! Sooo pleased. Thank you.

good coverage, cute back strings

I was looking for bikinis that are NOT holter and have V-shape neck, and this was a great choice. The strings on back are really cute and adjustable, thus fit the chest well. I am 5'8", 132lbs, 36A, wide shoulders. Since I have flat torso, I needed more coverage, so I ordered M, and I am happy with the choice. The bras are full enough to cover nicely under the ampuls. It just look really cute on me. I can't wait to go to the beach.

This is the suit that I've been looking for. I bought a couple of other cross-backed (no pressure on the neck) . . .but none of them actually felt secure enough to be active in... this is the solution- it's secure and CUTE.... I feel comfortable playing beach volley-ball / cliff jumping / and surfing in this suit top. . .plus it's not so "sporty" looking that it doesn't look like a cute bikini top- if that makes sense. Definitely recommend this item.

Love the colors

This version of the spaghetti strap top has more support than the model before and I like that. There is more material at the cross 'V'. I've actually gotten lots of compliments when wearing it. As a surfer, this kind of coverage is useful when I wipe out as it holds in place. In the end, I love the retro horizontal color stripes. It reminds me of the 70's hobie era. I like that.

Negative Reviews:

constantly rides up :-(

I bought this thinking it would stay in place and provide better coverage than other bathing suit tops. Unfortunately, it constantly rides up, which cause me to constantly be pulling it down to cover my chest. When it is just put on, it's a very flattering shape on my 36A build. Therefore - I've tried everything from tightening it to loosening to tying the straps in the front to make it work. Unfortunately, in the name of practicality, I've had to give up and retire this top.

not for surfing

I bought this "athletic top" to go surfing in Costa Rica in. That was a very bad idea. The padding would not stay in for anything. Surfing is hard enough, I don't need to be looking for piecing of my bikini while doing it. The criss cross back is nice, if only you could make the top more durable. There are other companies that make tops that have padding that doesn't move, I think that is better for active wear.
mdiggity at Patagonia on 05/28/2012

I LOVE the look of this top, but it just didn't fit right. No matter how I tied the straps (tightly, loosely) the bottom strap rode up in the front (obviously this is a problem). I tried hard to make it work, but no go, it had to go back. :(

Not for the busty at heart

I'm 5'3, 130 lbs and a 34C. According to the sizing chart, I purchased a medium. If you are a C cup and 34 or greater, you will be spilling out of this. I had also ordered a dress from the site and had the same issue. I know it's hard to accommodate different body shapes, but as a warning, in my experience, Patagonia tops make me feel like they're just not made for C cups and above. I like the quality of the product, I just wish I could wear it and not look like I am on a Bay Watch set.
