Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

Total H2NO is the right name for this shell!!!

Once again here's another sweet piece of pategonia gear I own. I like this shell a lot for the reason it, in my opinion is just as sweet as some of the higher end shells out there (and you know what ones i'm jabbering about). The sealed zippers rock and the pit zips rock too!!! if you stink you simply unzip the pit, lol (just kiddin about the stink part). Definately a shell worth the bucks and a great layering piece too. I wore this out at my job in down pouring conditions and was dry to the bone other than my pants (should of asked Pategonia for some rain pants). Anyway don't be fooled by the other higher end brands, this one performs awesome!!! Surround yourself with Pategonia.

Very nice lightweight rain jacket with good features

I was looking for a lightweight rain coat that was pretty breathable and very packable. This one fit the bill perfectly, with a good fit and fine attention to detail. The pit zips are a nice feature, as is the inside zip pocket for your wallet or similar item. The hood is also designed to fit quite well and offer excellent protection from the elements.I like the fact that it's a stylish jacket in a subtle way, yet totally designed for excellent outdoor usage. There's really nothing not to like about this jacket. I am 5'11" (200 lbs) and I ordered an XL in this case and it fits fine... a little bit roomy, which is what I like in a rain jacket.

LEGIT RAIN JACKET!!!!!

I bought this jacket over a few years ago, and it is still holding up and keeping me dry! I love the pit zips and fleece neck lining on it. I was between this and the Torrent Shell, and I love how much lighter this is. Still does a great job! I am 6'2 230 and bought a Large and it fits true to size. I know Patagonia is pricy but there warrenty on their products are incredible!

Great jacket...if you are looking for a light rain jacket

I love this jacket. I have had it for over a year now and there have been no let downs. I am a 235 pound 6'2 male and a large fit fine. A great buy. One thing I would advise is that if you are looking for a thicker jacket this is not it. If that is the one you are looking for go with the Torrent shell. Patagonia makes legit gear. It's my go to brand
Jake at Moosejaw on 12/19/2011

Fits well, keeps you dry.

I tried this on first at a local store after several jackets. It had the best fit and felt high quality. All the seams are very well sealed, as are the zippers. It breaths well when you are active, and if you need that extra fresh air the pit zips come in handy. The hood fits very well, and the high riding zipper that covers your chin is awesome. Over all it's an outstanding jacket.

Good deal

I love everything Patagonia makes. They are quality products and they stand behind their stuff. Also some of the money they make goes to protecting some of the most beautiful land in the Americas. This jacket is a beautifully made product and the colors are super vibrant. It'll keep you dry, only problem is inside its like a rain-forest. It could definitely use more breath-ability. Overall this is an excellent rain shell for the money.

Pretty good jacket

I have owned this jacket for a year now, at first it repelled water really well. But recently it has not done as good as job as before. It still repels some water but is not nearly as effective as before. Large was good for me (6'2 180) Pretty good, but there are better Patagonia water resistant jackets.
Joseph at Moosejaw on 07/07/2011

Fantastic coat

This coat is mega light and packs tightly into my pack. Great fit and excellent quality. The "fire red" is really cool looking too. I threw away my old uncomfortable rain parcha and replaced it with this coat. The zippers are easy to operate especially for their great rain proof construction.
Mike at Moosejaw on 01/21/2012

Dry as a bone

No matter where you wear this coat, you will be dry. I have worn it on the trail, fly fishing, climbing and walking the dog. I don't think I would buy another rain coat.

Great coat!

Great mid layer for a nice winter coat, orange for great visibility, and keeps me dry and warm

Negative Reviews:

Probably the worst raincoat I've owned...

I have owned this jacket for a few years now. SO this might fall on me and not the jacket, but after a year or so the jacket basically ceased to keep out water. Maybe I was supposed to apply sealant or water repellant to it? Not totally sure. I've owned plenty of jackets and I've never had to do that... Anyhow, the jacket basically stopped keeping out water. I'd wear it out in the rain and end up completely soaked. No Bueno.... especially since it is not a cheap jacket. I honestly cannot recommend this jacket to anyone. Also, during summer rain storms the jacket was not breathable at all. It was like wearing a garbage bag. Gross.
Ben at Moosejaw on 06/14/2011

Pretty displeased

I've had this about 20 months now and I can't recommend it. The fabric doesn't breathe well and this is especially problematic once the DWR finish needs a refresh, which in this case, is at about the 6-8 month range. The jacket is still waterproof, but it won't matter much because the fabric loses all breathability so you'll be generating all the moisture you need from inside. The interior of the shell is also extremely delicate. I just noticed a hole in the inside fabric, and I've used this jacket fairly lightly (because of the previous problems, this jacket quickly became an "around-the-town" piece.) In all, I can't recommend this jacket. It does look nice and fit well.
