I Wear It Everyday

I absolutely love this pullover! I wear it around the house almost everyday. I ordered another so I can keep them clean (the first one I got is white- I get too dirty to wear white so often.) The Viking Blue color is really lovely. I might be imagining things, but I find the newer version is a little bit longer, improving a piece that I thought was perfect. I have the jacket as well, with the full zip, but I find this piece much more useful. Initially I bought the jacket because I thought it would be more versatile and flattering, but it's actually the other way around. I was worried that the pouch pocket on the pullover would look bulky, but I don't notice that at all. I love not having the zipper there, it's much more comfortable. It might not be as easy to take on and off, but that's not really a problem, because I never take it off! At any rate... this is just a great piece. It's softer, lighter, more flexible, and more flattering than a regular sweatshirt. It's cozy and warm, but it breathes well too. I really do wear it pretty much everyday and just about anywhere. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with this piece!

Best Fleece Ever

I'm about 5'7 1/2", ~140 pounds, and wear a size 6 in pants and dresses. I was a little hesitant about buying a fleece without trying it on since I have a pretty ample bust (34E) and have a long torso and long arms, but I bought the medium and it fits perfectly, just like a fleece should (not painted-on, yet not super-baggy). It hits me at the hip, and the arms are actually long enough, which is so nice. It's cut a little narrower at the wrists and at the hips so that drafts don't creep up below the fleece, which is nice. I bought the Rubellite Pink, which is a sweet but not obnoxious color. I especially like how big the kangaroo pouch is, and the fact that the neck has snaps instead of a zipper (which I find irritating and scratchy on other fleeces). It's definitely not windproof, but it's warm, and if you toss on a shell or another jacket over it, you'll be just fine. All-in-all, this is an extremely comfortable, soft, functional fleece, and I anticipate wearing it a lot this spring.

People must have led hard lives 20 years ago in winter, when the state of the art fleece technology was the plain old Polartec 200 or 300 weight fleece - the flat faced, "once you wash it it would pill", and not-at-all-warm fleece. The re-tool snap T on the other hand is extremely soft (don't worry about washing, it'll get softer, just don't machine dry it), extremely warm (due to the long snuggly fiber), and looks really good on. I set the room temp to 69 and just wear a t-shirt and I'm warm. It's the only fleece I need for winter. Love the kangaroo pocket - good for warming up hands, but not so good for layering under another jacket.
I have 2 of these, and wear them throughout the winter. After 2 seasons of hard wear, they look still quite new, other than the fleece bands at the cuffs. Sure other brands have their equivalent (e.g., Mountain Hardwear Monkey Women), but these look casual enough that doesn't sport the "look at me" look. Get these for the cold months.

BEST SHIRT/JACKET EVER

I wanted one of these for several years, but was always unsure of the price tag. Then I was able to get it thanks to a gift card. My only regret is not getting one sooner! I have the indigo color, and its not only beautiful but SUPER warm (not windproof, however, so be aware). I can wear it in 25 degrees with no other jacket over, and only a short sleeve shirt underneath and still be warm. Paired with a down coat and I am far too warm- even in the teens! And, I do NOT run warm! I run colder than most of the people I know. It runs a bit big- I normally wear a Large in Patagonia stuff, but I got a Medium. It's still loose, but it doesn't look baggy. The head-hole is small-ish, so I have to take my glasses off to take it off, but that keeps my neck warmer. Also, the kangaroo pouch on the belly doesn't lie very flat, but its very roomy and nice.
rockgeek at Patagonia on 01/21/2013

Personally I don't consider this a technical piece compared to other fleeces I own, but this one looks damn good (got the dark blue/purple color) and does the job as a casual everyday fleece. Very soft inside and out. I wish the soft plush material lined the kangaroo pouch pocket. The pouch is my favorite part. I throw everything in there. The stand-up collar is awesome because it always stands up even when unbuttoned, unlike some collars that fold over like a polo shirt collar. One tiny gripe is that sleeve cuff isn't the stretchiest, so it feels a little tight when pulling the sleeves up. Got the XS and it fits relaxed, not tight and fitted and the collar buttoned up is just right without feeling like its choking me. Another awesome thing about this is that it comes in pretty much every color of the rainbow (not all on backcountry.com, but check out the patagonia website). Might go for the hooded one next.

It's like living in a hug.

I've had my eye on the Re-Tool for the longest time and finally went ahead and bought one this past December. So far it's turned out to be the best purchase of cold weather gear I've ever made. I love that it's not made of standard fleece that tends to pill and begins to look gross after a few washes and wears. I think I wore it every day the week it arrived. I found it to be surprisingly wind resistant--one night I was out and ended up having to scrape loads of ice off my car and all I had on was the Re-Tool. I stayed nice and warm despite high winds. It's definitively the warmest garment I own and proved to be invaluable while I braved the Polar Vortex in Michigan. The only complaint I have is that it's perhaps a bit short. I typically like my sweatshirts and tops a bit longer, but beyond that, this is an excellent product.

Unbelievably Thrilled With This Pullover!

After reviewing this pullover and adding it to my Christmas wish list, I received it just two weeks ago and can already say that I never want to take it off. I was between another similar fleece North Face product but am SO happy I was gifted this item. It is unbelievably soft and incredibly warm. I have worn it in the snow and wind with no problems at all! I was toasty the entire time. It is also perfect for lounging and running errands in. I cannot stress enough how much I'm obsessed over this jacket... even much so that im looking into purchasing another color. I'm 5'5, 125 lbs and ordered a Medium. It is the PERFECT size because I like to layer my clothing and like to have my jackets slightly bigger. Plus, it's easier to side off and on that way. Do not even hesitate to click "purchase", you will be so thrilled that you did. Amazing!!

Toastier than Toast

The first time I put on this jacket I never wanted to take it off! It's super soft and flexible, and doesn't restrict movement at all. The kangaroo pocket is so nice and warm, and the inside of the pockets is a sort of soft, flexible mesh material. I bought the teal jacket in a small and it fits wonderfully! (5'5" and 125lbs) The collar is so soft against your neck and can be folded down to be more stylish. This jacket fits well and is very flattering! When paired with a down jacket, this fleece jacket keeps you extra extra toasty! Great for layering! I live in Eastern Tennessee where the weather is unpredictable, and the mountains are close by. This jacket is great for hiking, camping, chilling, school, whatever you do! I would recommend this for anyone! It was way better than I expected!

Awesome!

I LOVE this fleece! I got mine from another website {I had a giftcard} about two weeks ago and have literally worn it every day since then {yes, I have washed it!}. I tend to be an Arcteryx snob, but none of my Arcteryx fleeces keep me as warm as this one; it is wonderful. The only time it doesn't do the greatest job is when its windy because it is definitely not wind-proof :) I most definitely recommend it, you won't regret it. I am 5'3, 135 lbs, 34D and the Medium fit me comfortably. It's loose enough to wear a long sleeve shirt underneath {though you won't really need it unless its COLD}, but not so loose that it looks baggy or too-big. It seems to wash well, but its only been through a couple washes.

Like crawling in to a fuzzy cocoon of warmth

I bought this jacket today in the brown/blue at a sale. I loved the color on me even though it didn't appeal too much on the hanger. I am a genuine Patagonia medium but this jacket runs a bit large. It just lacks a little bit of figure flattering but would have fit perfectly in a small if they had had any at the store (I tried on the full zip in a small). Putting on this jacket is HEAVEN. It's the coziest jacket I've ever owned. I don't know if I would take it backpacking because it is a bit heavy and not very packable, but I'd take it on any trip on which I wouldn't be carrying my weight, like a climbing or paddling trip, for staying warm camping at night. To summarize: AMAZING BUY!

Negative Reviews:

Not as great as I thought

My northface that I had for years was finally tossed and I had heard great reviews about the fleece. After purchasing it, I wore it once and noticed the sleeves were frilling out and there were two holes in the left sleeve and one in the right. I ordered the jacket and loved it at first, but after the one wear to the store, I wanted to return it. its a great fit and looks good on, but if i spend that amount of money on a jacket, I don't want it looking rough the day I get it. I'm a college student so the money was not worth it.

Fell apart

The stitching on the sleeve is conning apart. Poor

Sheds more than my cat

I loved this fleece until I started finding green fuzz everywhere! I've washed and dried it 3 times and it still sheds more than my cat. The guaruntee Patagonia offers is a joke. Pretty much covers any current season full priced items but not "old" colors even though I bought this fleece only 2 months ago.
Christy39 at Patagonia on 04/02/2013

soft and warm but not made for tall slender builds

I loved the softness and warm feel of this pullover but unfortunately the medium I ordered was not quite long enough in the body or the sleeve length and the large was too baggy overall. i am 6'0" tall and average build. I would love to see this top in a "tall" size.
