Patagonia brought back a classic: the Men’s Shelled Synchilla Jacket. Since you donated your 25-year-old version of this Patagonia jacket last spring, you can feel fine about getting a new one—especially since Patagonia made the Shelled Synchilla with recycled polyester, which diverts a few plastic soda bottles from the landfill. The Synchilla fleece lining is as soft and warm as ever, and the outer shell resists both wind and drizzle.

The Men's Shelled Synchilla® Jacket is a Patagonia archetype, and it's fully recyclable.

Casual not technical | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I own two of these jackets. My red shelled synchilla was the first Patagonia piece I bought, 20+ years ago ...the beginning of my addiction. And the first one looks as good today as it did then. The fleece is probably a little matted from all the washings, so it is not quite as warm, but it still wears really well and the shell is spotless. I used it for ice climbing and all sorts of outdoor activities from the mid 80's into the 90's. With all the advances in regulator insulation and shell technology, this jacket is now relegated to pure casual wear for me. I have moved on and so has the technology, but it is still a wardrobe staple for around town and when I want warmth and some wind protection combined. It makes me feel great to still be actively using my first Patagonia jacket 20 years on. I give this 5 stars as a casual piece; 3 stars as a technical piece. And 4.5 stars all around; I rounded up because this is such a super jacket. Kudos to Patagonia for stuff that can last 1/4 century and still look great!! | |

Twenty years and counting

| For the new generation of outdoor junkies, thanks Patagonia, for bringing back this classic. I have 2 of these, and they are among my absolute favorite jackets for nordic skiing in cold weather, hiking in the wind, biking, and just knocking around. Long before fleece was windproof, this was the best jacket to keep the heat in. It still does the trick, and you can pile on a layer or 2 underneath. I love to turn up the collar, throw a hat on, and head out--let the wind blow! I won't be needing one of these anytime soon, but I totally support this jacket. | |

Twenty Five Years Old | |

| For anyone blinking about the purchase of this jacket and its cost let me tell you about my Synchilla Jacket purchased in 1983. The color is definitely the 80s but that's okay to me. This jacket is as rugged as they come. I've worked outside wearing this jacket for years (literally thousands of hours) and it has no tears, no wear marks, insides are still stable and the synchilla keps me quite warm. Just washed it again and the color still pops. I'm writing this review because I'm here to buy another one. With Patagonia products I've yet to make a bad purchase. | |

I recommend this gear to keep comfortable.

| The Patagonia Men's Shelled Synchilla Jacket proved to be a valuable piece of gear for this writer out on a recent fishing trip in foul Alaska winter weather. I liked the fleece interior, the wind stopping wrist elastic to keep out the cold, and the water proof shell. If it is your goal to be comfortable in extreme weather conditions; then you simply can not go wrong with the best - Patagonia (Equally a success was the fishing, achieving our limits on halibut and winter kings!). | |

The Go To Jacket | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I have owned two of these jackets going back 25 years. It is the one year 'round jacket I always "go to" because of the combination of warmth, wind-breaking, durability and style; it does it all. I understand one reviewer's concern with fleece in the sleeves but a slick material compromises function. This jacket can be layered but not with bulky layering, R-1 or R-2 would be the max. My favorite combination is this jacket and a Patagonia polo. | |

Best Jacket for North Califonia
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Best jacket all year around. Jip it up when you are cold and you will be warm fast. Unzip it during the day unless it is foggy and windy. It is light to wear and very easy clean. All pockets have zippers including 1 inside. I have purchase these jackets every couple of years and when I donate them they are in very nice condition and will last for years. They have for me. | |

I love this jacket. | |

| I bought this jacket in gravel color because it was priced at almosy $100 off the regular price, but when I received it I liked the color very much. The photo does not do it justice. It has everything Patagonia clothing is known for-warmth without bulk, understated style that never goes out of style, and quality of craftsmanship which means that I have a Patagonia fleece sweatshirt that looks great after 13 years. | |

Warm and Functional | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I like the bomber style jacket. I also like Patagonia. The combination works well for me. It's warm enough that you don't have to layer when the temp drops below 40, but with a good base layer it's good into the teens. I've had some difficulty with the zippers lately, but this is a minor inconvenience. Color selection is limited. Sizes run big. Still an excellent value and jacket. | |

Great Jacket | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This will be my second Shelled Synchilla. I bought the first in 1988 and still used it daily through last winter. In contrast to what the last reviewer spoke of, I like the fit and fact that it keeps me toasty in nothing but a t-shirt (or flannel) underneath. Thanks for bringing this back Patagonia. How about you resurrect the Gaucho pants or Vario gloves next? | |

Great Jacket | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| The jacket is really great, fits well, warm. The fleece on the inside is top quality. As usual, Patagonia is always off a bit with their sizing, medium would be too small for me, and large is just a touch big. But not to any extent that it prevents the jacket from being useful and comfortable. Thanks Altrec | |

Why I like this and don't like this jacket
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I really dig this jacket because it could be used for just about anything and it is a super deal for the money. What I don't like is that you cannot wear a sweater under this jacket or and kind of layering. The 2 other reviews are both correct but the one review about this jacket needing updating or at least making an updated version of this jacket is so true. This could be Patagonia's "Diamond In The Rough". We will see! | |

Needs Updating | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This use to be a killer jacket back in 80s and in a way it still is..somewhat. The problem is that it needs to be UPDATED, it looks like a "Members Only" jacket from the Miami Vice era. My problem is you cannot wear this jacket over any of Patagonia's sweaters, pullovers or sweatshirts without the sleeves bunching up. I would not change much on this jacket, Patagonia needs to make a second version of this jacket (something like the Noon-er jacket style #11376) without the knit ribbed cuff and hem. The cuffs need to be adjustable velcro style and the hem should have a single or double cinch cord. Make the jacket length 29" in the front/back and Patagonia would have a jacket that can be used for anything from skiing to going to the grocery store(even a shell only version). With the economy being bad and money tight this would be an AWESOME value jacket among the $300.00 to $600.00 jackets. I have a Patagonia fan for almost 20 years, I wish Patagonia had some of there classics back for sale. | |

Sizing not good for me. | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Although the quality of the jacket workmanship and materials are flawless, I found the fit subpar, and returned the jacket. Let me point out that there is no elastic in the bottom hem, and I found the sleeves to run a little short for me in size large(43 long suit size) , whereas Marmot always fits, and TNF is just long enough. The lower part of the jacket just flopped around on me; I have a 35" waist, and you will definitely lose heat there. This type of jacket always has to compete with a Land's End squall, which for me would be a better fit in a tall size. If you don't already know, Altec's return policy is the best in the business and you never have to worry if something isn't what you expected. You download and print the return label, take it to the local US post office and they pay to ship it back. It definitely made me want to buy more stuff from these nice folks! | |

Could have taken the Gold...
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This jacket could have taken the Gold, but the Bronze is more like it. Issue: the sleeves should be lined with a smooth material, not fleece. Problem: can't layer--it is too bulky. Okay with a long-sleeve t-shirt, but not much else. (Hey, Patagonia, the Kings of layering, what were you thinking?) Thank you. | |
