Patagonia Solid Boucau Halter Top

As an avid surfer and bodysurfer on Oahu, I traded in an old top that had fallen apart too rapidly for the Boucau Halter Top and was immediately satisfied. I call it my “industrial” top because it offers very full coverage and stays in place in the water. I am very tall, and have broad shoulders and a small chest (34A-B), bought the medium but could have gone with a small. I took out the pads because they get all bunched up and don’t stay in place while surfing. One of my criteria for swim tops is that it has to stay on while I bodysurf. This top has passed the test numerous times, which is an elusive quality to find in a bikini top. The drawback: it has gone flying off as I wipe out in my great attempts to learn how to cross step and nose ride. However, it is comfortable and the brown looks great with various other colors of Patagoo bikini bottoms. Overall, I dig this industrial top and would purchase another in the future. I have taken this swim suit on several vacations with me and I am very happy with the purchase. It is comfortable to wear - the neck ties don't rub and cause irritation. I was able to snorkel, surf, swim and lay around in the sun without worries about it falling off and giving a peep show. You can tell it is well made and won't fall apart any time soon. It is supportive, even without an underwire.I got it in blue. The color is bright and attractive. As far as fashion though, it is just an average suit, there isn't anything particularly interesting or pretty about it, just a great all around standard swim suit that does the job.

This top is great in a lot of ways, but it needs a few tweaks. What's great about it? The halter tie around the neck, the padded cups with full coverage, and the extremely sturdy construction are all fantastic. And the cute colors are a plus, too!
However, the tie behind the back needs to be replaced with a flat S-hook - the bulky tie in the center of my back is uncomfortable and obstreporous, especially when wearing a paddling top, or driving a shuttle, or even when trying to lounge in a comfy beach chair. Get rid of the back tie, and you'll have a 100% winner on your hands.

I purchased my first Boucau Halter Top 7 years ago and it is still going strong. Just looking for a new color, so after trying on a few Patagonia styles came back to this one after all. It is a perfect fit. I pair it with the Sunamee bottoms and the two together are a very flattering, modern yet modest bikini. I am 5' 1", 107 lbs., 34A, petite frame, and use the suit mainly for swimming at the beach and pool. I wear an XS in this style. Love! Thanks again, Patagonia!

I own this tip in a medium, but after having 2 kids, I needed a smaller size, so I ordered a small, and it fits well. The pads, like any other removable pad in a bikini, do shift around a bit, but also provide nice coverage and a little shape. I wear a 34A cup and this size works.

It is very supportive yet flattering. I like the color (teal/aqua) and have worn it for several hours at a time. The one thing that I I did not like was that it hurt my neck, a common problem with this type of tie at the neck for me. It didn't hurt enough for me to change!

Great fitting halter. It really looks nice on. I think Patagonia in general makes a good fitting halter (I tried on a couple different patterns), so I wouldn't be hesitant to order any of their stuff. The material is nice and it feels really well made. If you are looking for a solid black bikini it's perfect.

I'm a paddler, and the straps on this are great for comfort as they are wide and soft. The only issue that I have, though, is while I normal can squeeze my endowments into a medium halter top, this top fits a little snug. Worth the investment and I use it at least once a week!

This is a great suit if you want to be active at the beach/pool but still look cute. The blue-purple color is unique and the top was supportive even when swimming or running around. It is also made of a nice, smooth material that dries quickly. It runs true to size.

Perfect fit, great support, easy to tie, stays in place and is very flattering on my 42 year old figure! Like all swimtops I get frustrated that the liner folds up when I dive - I wish it could be tacked in place (I always end up doing this myself).
