By far the best fitting hat I own, I wear it climbing, hiking, on the river, hanging out, going to class, basically anywhere it is acceptable to wear a hat. I am a hat wearing fool and I am always looking for new ones but usually I find a great or cool looking hat and try it on and the fit just sucks. This one is different though, I have a pretty big head so usually hats are too small for me or they just sit on top of my head like a stupid beret or something. This one on the other hand covers my whole head, it fits without being on the very last adjustable tab, and is just all around comfortable. I have another Patagonia hat that fits the same way but this one is definitely my favorite by far. Just the thought of losing this hat brings a tear to my eye. They did something right when they made this hat.
I wear a 7 5/8ths baseball hat (New Era fitted). Most trucker style hats look terrible on my huge dome or simply don't fit. I saw reviews on the Patagonia website saying that this was a hat for folks with larger heads and that is absolutely true. I don't know if it would fit smaller headed folk, which it may, but it certainly fits the bill if you have a larger sized head.
I loosen the hat from the "standard" position (all nubs in holes) two nubs for normal wear. If river rafting or heavy wind, sometimes I tighten it by one hole just to be sure.
The hat looks great, takes a beating, and keeps going. My first one is about 5 years old and is faded, but still looks good. Go get one, they are worth it!
When debating on ordering this hat, I had read sooo many good and not so good reviews. I'm kinda picky about hats and hat sizing. I hate the slim wrinkly look of some hats and also the huge over the top stupid looking trucker hats, this being said: For me, this hat is freakin stella. A lot of these reviews are regarding this hat as over the top freakishly big head wrap, this is absolutely false. The hat sits very well and is very well constructed as in all Patagonia merchandise. So if by reading falsely informed reviews is making you lean towards not wanting to order it, honestly pay no mind...its an exceptional piece of work.
I have a medium size head about 7 1/4 and when I use to get these a few years back they fit like a glove. The last couple of years patagonia has made these bigger and bigger. I can't buy anymore because they are absolutely too big even with the snap back. It looks ridiculous with a snap back cinched back to the hilt, just warps the entire hat so I have given up. I love their hats but sizing is essential. Believe me I wish my head were bigger to accomodate this hat but, well thats just dreaming. That is just my personal opinion anyways. I find the Kavu trucker hats fit much better and the sizing is more realistic to the masses.
