Patagonia Trucker Hat Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

This is funny.

I am writing a product review of a trucker hat. I wonder if any truckers have ever done this. I'm going to anyway. Right out of the box it fit me as if it had asked to be mailed to me. It went on my next road trip. It went on another today. It may be my primary road trip hat. But then, this is what a trucker hat should be expected to do. Construction is ...well, it's a bombproof hat. It makes me look more like a trucker than I was prepared to. Which I am apparently quite OK with. I will constantly look at it, three-quarter rear view, and see the Patagonia label and, other than that, something that I would not be surprised to see on a rack in a 7-Eleven. No, this is a compliment. After all, it's a trucker hat, ain't it? If you are thinking about whether you need one, there is only one way to find out. Get one. You may surprise yourself. It kind of says road, and if that's what you're about, a beautiful friendship may be about to happen.

Other than this hat running a little on the large side (I have a 7 1/4 hat size) this hat is great and I love it. It can be used doing anything you want a hat for. I have had several of these over the last 4 years. It breaths well, has a lot of face protection, easily adjustable for hair of different seasons and is even pretty good at absorbing sweat and wicking it from the head. I even notice the hat dries pretty quick on my dash for a non-drifast material. I can throw it in the washer and it cleans up just fine without destroying the structure of the hat. I have used it trail running, climbing and just hanging out at the pub. Bottom Line Love it and give my recommendation to anyone looking for a big oversized hat. If you prefer small hats with a smaller brim and or shorter top (Low Profile) this hat is not for you

Did not meet expectations due to fit of hat

Initial Annoyance:
The size claim that "one size fits all" would more appropriately be labeled "one size fits most." I usually wear a S/M in hats and assumed with the snaps on the back of the hat I would be able to adjust this to fit. Indeed, the diameter of the hat is a non-issue. However, the deadspace between my crown/hair and the hat makes it look ridiculous when I have attempted to wear it. I wouldn't necessarily chalk this up to issues with hat build style: I have other 'trucker' style hats that are made of similar material, fit super well, and do not suffer from the 10 gallon hat phenomenon. That critique aside, the materials & craftmanship are as exceptional as one would anticipate with a Patagonia product. And, if I had 'Big Hair' or an overly large cranial vault/super thick skull I would likely be stoked about this hat.

I love my trucker hat!

I stopped by the Boulder, CO store on Labor Day while visiting some friends. They were out of the blue Live Simply hats, but one of the employees gave me a free shipping coupon (more awesome customer service from Patagonia!) so I ordered one on the website. It arrived promptly and was ready to wear right out of the box, although wearing it for a few weeks and shaping the brim a bit has made it even more comfortable and good looking. I have a huge noggin, and the adjustable tab in the back allowed for a perfect fit. Solid construction, and good attention to detail. I'm very happy with my purchase (as a matter of fact, I'm wearing it as I type this) and will most likely be ordering a maroon Freedom To Roam hat very soon.

Sweet and looks cool, I live in it

I am a girl who has a medium size head, I can wear my trucker hat at the second to smallest adjustment hole. It's comfortable but still snug enough to hold it on windy days. If I have it at the smallest, it still fits but it's tight. Surprisingly, it actually looks very chic! Offers wonderful coverage on sunny days and the mesh doesn't matte my hair! No wonder truckers wear these type of hats all the time, the secret is out! I purchased the forest green one with the "Patagonia" embroidery across the front. I think there is a slight fit difference in the "colors," as I tried on the identical one in grey in the store and it was a little larger than my forest green one.

Sweet Trucker Hats

Love these hats a lot...I have about five different ones in rotation right now, and have retired a few oldies after they had finally been totally worn out! Great looking, great fit, great selection of different logos and colors! The only problem I have with them is that they get sweat-stained a little too easy when you're out playing hard. I've been able to clean them up again, but it gets to be a pain in the butt. Maybe the fix would be a better sweat band inside? Not sure. Overall they are great though. My favorite is my blue Live Simple with the guitar and my Freedom to Roam one is a close second! Please keep making these for years to come!

Trucker Hat is a Winner with Coolness Factor

This Patagonia Trucker Hat has a double coolness factor, being that it is a 'trucker' hat, and that it proudly displays the Patagonia logo. Stitching is solid, as are the details which is typical with any Patagonia product. The hat is well-made. The back half of the hat is mesh which adds natural air conditioning on those hot days in the cab, driving down the highway. The back strap is adjustable for big heads or small, and the Patagonia logo is again proudly displayed in the back. This hat is a twist on the typical baseball cap, and a win-win for any 'Good Buddy' who needs something to cover the dome on the long haul.

Best Hat

I own a lot of hats, and Patagonias trucker hat model is hands down the best. Excellent design, look, fit, ventilation, and durability. I've used this hat for full day hikes, camping trips, and just going out, and get tons of compliments regardless of what I'm doing. Some of the hats have slightly different designs in the way they fit, but all are very good and give a "sharper" look than a lot of other hat models. If you enjoy wearing hats for whatever purpose you prefer, I would highly recommend this hat. The price is absolutely worth the wear that you will get out of this hat.

Great Air Flow

I have a lot of ball caps. (My most cherished is a circa 1975, Ventura Pepsi cap. The Pepsi plant was right down the road from the Ventura Patagonia store.) Most of the ball caps are too warm to use while hiking. I purchased this hat and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of air flow it had, due to the mesh on the back side of the hat. The Patagonia logo is the same color of the hat which is kinda cool, because the Patagonia logo does not jump out at first -- stealth. Bottom Line: cooler than most of my other ball caps.

Great Hat...

Unlike the other review for this hat I haven't had any problems. I bought it this spring and have worn it a ton. It is the most comfotable mesh hat I have ever had, it fit to my head perfectly! It was also really easy to bend the brim to my liking. I wore it in July on a week long backcountry trip in Oregon which made the blue fade a little bit from the sun and made the hat warn but that is expected and gave it some real character. I love this hat!

Negative Reviews:

not fit for all

Took a chance on sale priced trucker hat recently - drawn to the patch design - a single string guitar. Unfortunately, the adjustable hat band does not accommodate all sizes (much like a lot of Patagonia product, cut for the slim and fit catalog worthy). Too bad. A lot of other companies carry this classic mesh back panel Trucker hat design in more generous cuts/size for the 'everyman'. I'll avoid online purchases for hats from now on.

High High High Crown

Have owned several of these hats. Loved the earlier ones as they were more low profile. Most recent purchase was a great looking hat, however it was made for Frankenstein. Please bring back lower profile hat, as I lost this version, and really want one.
mattaio at Patagonia on 09/20/2012

too deep

Got to have a huge head (and I got a big head, still too small) or a ton of hair to find this hat useful. Sick lookin hat, not a very good fit though.

poor fitting hat

poor fit... sits too high and is too deep
I really like the styling and the black under the bill is great, but with the poor fit, its all for not

Need Big Melon!

Great looking hat but built for neanderthals. I've got a pretty good sized head but this hat pushes my ears down and out like wings!

Disappointed

I ordered my third Trucker Hat a few weeks ago. I love the throwback Expo colors and was really excited about its arrival. I was disappointed when I tried it on for the first time. When I purchased my first Trucker Hat I was sold when a lot of the reviews I read talked about its depth and "bigger head with a lot of hair" accommodating fit. I was not disappointed and i wear it all the time. The newest purchase is not the same. It is not as deep and/or large. I have to adjust it to its biggest size and it sits too high on my head. Patagonia should go back to the old fit or at least warn buyers that the fit has changed.
jrash at Patagonia on 05/01/2012

Trucker hat

I have purchase three of these hats. The first was a brown one with the live simply embroidery. I absolutely love the color and the fit, unfortunately I lost this and a down sweater while working in NYC. When I went to replace the hat I thought I'd purchase the same hat and add the blueblack one with the Patagonia logo on it. The color on the blueblack is great and so is the logo. However, they are not the same hat, the brown has much more of a curved brim (which I like) and the blueblack much flatter (which I don't like). Maybe these come from two different manufacturing places or something, but there should be a description of the differences.

I am a huge fan of Patagonia hats and beanies. I have about 7 Patagonia Trucker hats in my closet and they seem to be getting bigger every year. I have to say hat the Fall 09 series would be my favorite, they have a low profile that seems to fit my head quite well. The new hats coming out seem to be much bigger that I have to actually fit them over my ears so that they will sit on my head right. The F09 hats I own don't do that at all, I wish Patagonia would go back to that style and size
beardo at Patagonia on 02/18/2011

too tall

The maker of the hat has changed and thus the size is different from older trucker hats. I have the blue hat with the red flying fish logo from a while back and it is by far my favorite hat. I recently got the new grey fly fishing logo hat and it is quite a bit different. It is much taller/deeper and I have to balance it on top of my head so it doesn't slip down and push my ears out. It's not a deal breaker and the hat still looks good, I was just expecting the perfection of the older style.
troutjustice at Patagonia on 04/15/2011

Sorry guys!

O.K. let me preface this by saying this is the only Patagonia product that has ever remotely disappointed me. I received this hat in february for my birthday, and it has received daily wear. It is without a doubt my favorite hat for style and fit. However, the mesh back has threads coming out everywhere, and the thick plastic filament that attaches the cloth to the mesh comes out like little daggers and pokes you in the scalp. I give it 3 stars because it looks so darn cool, but hurts so dang bad to wear.
BoonDoc at Patagonia on 09/09/2008

Was my favorite hat

I have purchased a few of these hats over the past several years. Fit great and I wore them all the time, in all conditions. Typically excellent Patagonia quality--very durable. However, I just purchased a new one to replace one I bought in 2008, and discovered that the new hats are almost comically large. Comparing it side by side with the older hats, it is significantly taller. Unless you have a huge head, I would recommend thinking twice about buying these hats. It's a pity, too, since they have good styling and are well made.
Anonymous at Patagonia on 01/20/2011

Not a real trucker hat

Its a very nice hat but it is not cut like a trucker hat. I think the cut style of this hat is called is a low profile trucker. It is cut much, much smaller than a true trucker so it WILL NOT FIT THE SAME AS A TRUE TRUCKER HAT! Just thought you should know if you are used to wearing trucker hats. It looks cool though and it fit my wife so she got a new hat and I'm still looking.
DrewC at Patagonia on 05/18/2009

If you have a remotely small head, I would not purchase this hat. My head is a touch on the smaller side and the hat looks very goofy. I prefer more of a sleek fit as oppose to the old school trucker hats that have a big bulge on the top of the hat. If you have a bigger head I would definitely buy the hat as the quality is great.

mar5673982 at Backcountry.com on 07/03/2012

Great hat, bad fit

If you're like me and have a average or smaller sized head, this hat may not be for you. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE this hat, but it just runs on the large side. By this I mean it has a ton of extra space between my head and the top of the hat.
Llama at Patagonia on 08/15/2012

Was better...

I've always loved these hats but the crown on them is WAY too high now. A little height is sweet but these are made for guys with massive heads. As an aside, I think Patagonia should get with the times and offer some flexfit hats as well.
