This is funny.
I am writing a product review of a trucker hat. I wonder if any truckers have ever done this. I'm going to anyway. Right out of the box it fit me as if it had asked to be mailed to me. It went on my next road trip. It went on another today. It may be my primary road trip hat. But then, this is what a trucker hat should be expected to do. Construction is ...well, it's a bombproof hat. It makes me look more like a trucker than I was prepared to. Which I am apparently quite OK with. I will constantly look at it, three-quarter rear view, and see the Patagonia label and, other than that, something that I would not be surprised to see on a rack in a 7-Eleven. No, this is a compliment. After all, it's a trucker hat, ain't it? If you are thinking about whether you need one, there is only one way to find out. Get one. You may surprise yourself. It kind of says road, and if that's what you're about, a beautiful friendship may be about to happen.
Other than this hat running a little on the large side (I have a 7 1/4 hat size) this hat is great and I love it. It can be used doing anything you want a hat for. I have had several of these over the last 4 years. It breaths well, has a lot of face protection, easily adjustable for hair of different seasons and is even pretty good at absorbing sweat and wicking it from the head. I even notice the hat dries pretty quick on my dash for a non-drifast material. I can throw it in the washer and it cleans up just fine without destroying the structure of the hat. I have used it trail running, climbing and just hanging out at the pub. Bottom Line Love it and give my recommendation to anyone looking for a big oversized hat. If you prefer small hats with a smaller brim and or shorter top (Low Profile) this hat is not for you
Did not meet expectations due to fit of hat
Initial Annoyance:
The size claim that "one size fits all" would more appropriately be labeled "one size fits most." I usually wear a S/M in hats and assumed with the snaps on the back of the hat I would be able to adjust this to fit. Indeed, the diameter of the hat is a non-issue. However, the deadspace between my crown/hair and the hat makes it look ridiculous when I have attempted to wear it. I wouldn't necessarily chalk this up to issues with hat build style: I have other 'trucker' style hats that are made of similar material, fit super well, and do not suffer from the 10 gallon hat phenomenon. That critique aside, the materials & craftmanship are as exceptional as one would anticipate with a Patagonia product. And, if I had 'Big Hair' or an overly large cranial vault/super thick skull I would likely be stoked about this hat.
I love my trucker hat!
I stopped by the Boulder, CO store on Labor Day while visiting some friends. They were out of the blue Live Simply hats, but one of the employees gave me a free shipping coupon (more awesome customer service from Patagonia!) so I ordered one on the website. It arrived promptly and was ready to wear right out of the box, although wearing it for a few weeks and shaping the brim a bit has made it even more comfortable and good looking. I have a huge noggin, and the adjustable tab in the back allowed for a perfect fit. Solid construction, and good attention to detail. I'm very happy with my purchase (as a matter of fact, I'm wearing it as I type this) and will most likely be ordering a maroon Freedom To Roam hat very soon.
Sweet and looks cool, I live in it
I am a girl who has a medium size head, I can wear my trucker hat at the second to smallest adjustment hole. It's comfortable but still snug enough to hold it on windy days. If I have it at the smallest, it still fits but it's tight. Surprisingly, it actually looks very chic! Offers wonderful coverage on sunny days and the mesh doesn't matte my hair! No wonder truckers wear these type of hats all the time, the secret is out! I purchased the forest green one with the "Patagonia" embroidery across the front. I think there is a slight fit difference in the "colors," as I tried on the identical one in grey in the store and it was a little larger than my forest green one.
Sweet Trucker Hats
Love these hats a lot...I have about five different ones in rotation right now, and have retired a few oldies after they had finally been totally worn out! Great looking, great fit, great selection of different logos and colors! The only problem I have with them is that they get sweat-stained a little too easy when you're out playing hard. I've been able to clean them up again, but it gets to be a pain in the butt. Maybe the fix would be a better sweat band inside? Not sure. Overall they are great though. My favorite is my blue Live Simple with the guitar and my Freedom to Roam one is a close second! Please keep making these for years to come!
Trucker Hat is a Winner with Coolness Factor
This Patagonia Trucker Hat has a double coolness factor, being that it is a 'trucker' hat, and that it proudly displays the Patagonia logo. Stitching is solid, as are the details which is typical with any Patagonia product. The hat is well-made. The back half of the hat is mesh which adds natural air conditioning on those hot days in the cab, driving down the highway. The back strap is adjustable for big heads or small, and the Patagonia logo is again proudly displayed in the back. This hat is a twist on the typical baseball cap, and a win-win for any 'Good Buddy' who needs something to cover the dome on the long haul.
Best Hat
I own a lot of hats, and Patagonias trucker hat model is hands down the best. Excellent design, look, fit, ventilation, and durability. I've used this hat for full day hikes, camping trips, and just going out, and get tons of compliments regardless of what I'm doing. Some of the hats have slightly different designs in the way they fit, but all are very good and give a "sharper" look than a lot of other hat models. If you enjoy wearing hats for whatever purpose you prefer, I would highly recommend this hat. The price is absolutely worth the wear that you will get out of this hat.
Great Air Flow
I have a lot of ball caps. (My most cherished is a circa 1975, Ventura Pepsi cap. The Pepsi plant was right down the road from the Ventura Patagonia store.) Most of the ball caps are too warm to use while hiking. I purchased this hat and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of air flow it had, due to the mesh on the back side of the hat. The Patagonia logo is the same color of the hat which is kinda cool, because the Patagonia logo does not jump out at first -- stealth. Bottom Line: cooler than most of my other ball caps.
Great Hat...
Unlike the other review for this hat I haven't had any problems. I bought it this spring and have worn it a ton. It is the most comfotable mesh hat I have ever had, it fit to my head perfectly! It was also really easy to bend the brim to my liking. I wore it in July on a week long backcountry trip in Oregon which made the blue fade a little bit from the sun and made the hat warn but that is expected and gave it some real character. I love this hat!
