A first layer for high-endurance activities in cool to warm temps, this lightweight crew neck is highly breathable and fast drying.
Wear the lightweight Patagonia Men's Capilene 2 Crew top alone or as a base layer when you hike, trail run, backpack, mountain bike, or cross country ski. Patagonia made this crew top with an open knit for maximum breathability and wicking. Yet, this knit weave also makes this top warm enough for cold weather. Patagonia gave the Capilene 2 Crew flat, out-of-the-way seams that won't rub underneath pack straps. A slight drop tail keeps your lower back covered, even as you lean forward on your mountain bike. Patagonia's Gladiodor natural odor control keeps you from stinking of sweat.
For warm-to-cool temperatures, grab Patagonia's Capilene 2 Crew for quick-wicking, ultra-breathable, fast-drying protection while you're trail running, climbing, mountain biking, hiking, canoeing, commuting...

Stay dry and cool in this highly breathable baselayer designed for use in a range of activity levels and temperatures.

| Disclaimer: I have not bought any new Capilene since about 6 years ago. Since then, I think Patagonia have added odor-control technology to this product, which is a good thing, as I have a tendency to stink when wearing synthetic fabrics. I have been wearing mid-weight capilene since the early 1990's. I have worn it as a base layer in Chicago winters, and on fall packpacking trips, running workouts, and while cross-country skiing. I like the way it feels against the skin--it is instantly warming, and not as clingy as some other polypro and polyester products. It gives that extra touch of comfort in cold weather. This morning, for example, it was -15 degrees Fahrenheit, and I was glad I was wearing it. I sometimes wear it as a long-sleeve shirt at work. At my cubicle, temperatures will rise to 78 degrees or so. I slide the sleeves up and un-button some snaps (I have the snap-up tops), remaining reasonably comfortable. I like the fit; it is not body-hugging, yet it wicks moisture quickly enough that I am not bothered much by sweatiness, even when running. If I vent my outer layers, the sweat will quickly wick and/or evaporate, leaving me comfortable. My shirt size is 15 1/2, 33. In the medium size of Capilene, sleeve length and overall length are just right--perhaps a tad long in the sleeve, but I would rather have that, than to have it too short. It wears like iron. I am currently still using Capilene tops that I bought in 1994. I noticed minor pilling once or twice, but I easily removed it with a dry disposable razor. In the past, I have gotten absolute satisfaction from the Patagonia products I have bought: shirts, balaclavas, a Synchilla jacket, a Puff Ball vest, and Capilene undies. | |

Awesome Base but.... | |

I will admit this is my first good quality base layer... I can think back to soccer when I was sporting some Champion brand spandex but I did pick up the full Capilene 2 system and am amazed. Comfy, slightly loose fitting, breathable and very quick drying all as advertised. My only gripe is with the durability, I am a little worried as I have had these for about one month and gotten quite a bit of use from them already, the shirt has been flawless while the pants have a small rip starting in my inner thigh. The only thing I have used them for thus far is biking and the rip would make sense if there was anything sharp around my saddle (which I made sure there is not). It appears the rip might be coming from repetitive stretching? I have yet to contact Patagonia yet to see what they have to say. But worn as a base layer this stuff is amazing!!! just watch out for snaggs and maybe stretching the fabric to much. Thanks!!

Great Performing Single Layer

| I wore this during a trail marathon in early November. It kept me warm enough at the start of the race when it was 38-40F. Once I warmed up and the outside temp reached 60F, the shirt removed moisture and kept me from getting too hot. This shirt is very comfortable and is one of the best at temp control and moisture management. This is the perfect shirt (as a single layer)for high intensity activities during the Spring and Fall. It can be used as a great base layer under a shell or performance top during colder Winter weather. Be carful around Velcro...it will snag. | |

Great as a baselayer or as outerwear

| I love Patagonias capiline line! This level 2 shirt is nice and lightweight and works great as a warm base layer. On a cold day you would probably need this and a shell and you would stay warm. While moving, this is all you need! Sheds moisture and breathes while keeping you warm. Very soft against the skin. Great substitute to wool. | |

Like it! Have two Capilene 2 T-shirts that I have in large as I like mt T-shirts loose. This one I bought in medium so its a little more fitted to layer underneath other stuff. Although the sleaves could be a little longer (most climbers I know have a pretty good ape index...), its warm and I rate it.

Nice shirt | |

As a base layer, it adds some warmth and can be used for casual wear as well. By itself, it would be comfortable to wear even in hot weather- the open knit mesh type construction allows you to feel the breeze on your skin. Super light weight, and seems kind of delicate but I have had no problems yet.

Base Layer Boast | |

While not cheap...it does as advertised. Softer and more comfortable than most wool based products, it provides great warmth and wears well. Any outdoor activity done in cold weather will be much more enjoyable with this acting as a buffer between the skin and the weather. I bought three and they get plenty of use. Thumbs up!!!

| great lightweight baselayer, catch them on sale because i had a hard time paying 40 for mine, so when they were on sale i picked up 2. really light, doesn't smell. one problem was snagging, just be careful not to catch it on tree bark. above par product. perfect for early fall/late spring climbing. | |

The perfect baselayer for 15-40 deg weather. Add a vest and some sort of windblocker or shell and I am toasty. Good wicking properties, good heat retention and decent antimicrobial, although if smells are your big issue, then maybe the patagucci wool is your bag.

| On a climb at over 13,000 feet this shirt was light, easy to pack, and was very useful when the wind and rain spoiled the day. Not a barrier for the wind but warm even when wet. The fit was perfect. great for layering. | |

Itchy | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
This may be a wonderful product for wicking moisture and keeping me warm backcountry skiing, but it's got a few major seams on each arm and a few on each side of the shirt. The material is so fine that the seams are pretty huge, and they itch. I just wouldn't want this rubbing on my skin all day.
