Thin, light and warm | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| When I first bought this I thought that it might be a bit bulky like a thinner fleece but this is really thin. REI usually uses large boxes for their ship items but this came in such a tiny box that I didn't know what it was...thought it maybe was a pair of socks or something. It is surprisingly warm and is put together really well. I am a bigger guy and was worried about it being clingy but it is roomy in the right way. If you are really skinny you might want to go down a size or leave the space for extra layering. Great compact item to add in the pack to ensure that you have coverage if it gets cold and it is super comfortable. I am going keep one of the level 4s in my vehicle during the winter as a just in case. After I received the level 3 I bought the zip for more of a pull over and a level 4 as well. Dries quickly as stated so that after a hike you won't be freezing all day waiting for it to dry out. One last thing is that is looks good, great item to wear around the town on a chilly night (I would get the zip for in town) or to wear out on the trail or a long patrol. | |

Fantastic! | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This garment is great as a base layer, wicking away moisture, or as a stylish sporty shirt in less than warm weather. I’m still in awe at the positive comments both my wife and I receive from coworkers when we where ours on casual Fridays. I liked the Patagonia 3 so much I bought two more zip necks, one crew neck, and a Patagonia Capilene 4. The 4 has an inside layer (the soft material that almost appears to be sprayed on) that is a good bit thicker than the 3 and a good deal warmer. The odor control may be an issue as some (e.g. Backpacker) rated it as the lowest in a 4-way comparison. I have yet to have a problem during snowshoeing and winter hiking. Summer backpacking should test this attribute more thoroughly. I will not hesitate to buy more of these shirts. | |

Excellent Baselayer | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I bought this product for hiking around in Northern New Mexico during winter and it worked perfectly with the Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man fleece jacket. Not only did it retain heat, but it provided great moisture control. Even when the weather got warmer mid-day, any accumulated sweat evaporated very quickly when I unzipped my jacket or paused momentarily. In addition to the excellent performance, Patagonia really cut this layer nicely. I'm rather tall at 6'4", with long arms, and I had no problem comfortably fitting into a large. The large wasn't too tight, but it wasn't loose either which was a welcome feature of the layer. The seams are sown flat to eliminate pressure points, and they're strategically placed away from shoulders to avoid discomfort. Overall, this is an excellent layer and well worth the money. | |

Likes the funk | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
I got this to use as a base layer, but found myself wearing it a lot more often. It works excellent for skiing, although I wouldn't suggest it for multiday trips. Polyester holds onto a little too much funk to wear it repeatedly without washing. While the cap3 works for hiking, I'd suggest going for a wool shirt if you're going to be out for more than a couple of days. Wool won't smell after a day or two. With that said, you could buy 2 of these for the price of 1 wool shirt.

"Best of the Capelines, most versatile!!!"
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I would say this is probably the best of the capelines (1-4) as far as versatility goes. Even though I don't own a 2 or a 4, this one's like the little bear's porridge: Just Right. It allows for the right amount of warmth in cold weather without making you pass out from heat exhaustion in the warmer weather. I've backpacked in 40 degree weather and been nice and comfy just wearing this shirt once I got the blood going. Also, if you do sweat, it does a good job of drying up quickly and not stinking so you can still get some action at the end of the day!!! | |

Very warm | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
I've had this for about two years now and I can say this is a great first layer. I've worn this on many trips and it has performed flawlessly. I wear it while I hike in cooler temps and it wicks moisture likes it's nobody's business and I don't even have to change when it's time to climb inside the sleeping bag. This thing stays dry and is very comfortable. One minor issue: It can get real clingy. The material which I think is polyester attracts static electricity so I docked it one star, but other than that this base layer is well worth the price.

"Yes, I love it." | |

| These things are friggin expensive. BUT I never want to take it off. So it must be worth it. I wore it for 4 days in a row in the Sierras in CA. I didn't sweat much but I would have expected them to smell a bit after 4 days. These things are so comfortable. I can see myself buying more of these before winter. I'm 6'3" and slim. The large fits kinda tight and arms are a bit short. XL is perfect in the arms and not too baggy elsewhere....very close to a perfect fit if I'm being really picky. Great product. | |

Warm, but athletic builds might upsize
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I had hoped to test the full capability of this product while in Canada on a weeklong kayaking trip. It ended up not being as cold as expected, but I still used this product (top & bottoms) as my PJ's and around camp. Product was warm and fit pretty well. I used the reviews and size charts from patagonia. Similar reviews suggested I'd need the large size for top and bottoms. Bottoms were true to size, but if you have an athletic build through the chest, shoulders and upper arms, you'll need the XL. Fit was tight, but not tight enough to return. | |

Everyday Go-To | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I've now picked up four of these and they take me through about 2/3 of the year in cool to cold Chicago weather. For hiking, running, lounging, learning - anything - they're perfect. They breathe wonderfully, dry fast, don't pick up odor, come out of the wash looking brand new (no pilling, no loose threads, no wrinkles, and even a sheen!). And as for the cut, I wish my suits were tailored this well. I'm about as cheap as they come, but knowing what I know now, I would have forked over even more $$$ for these baselayers. | |

The Ultimate Versitile Baselayer
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This garment fits close to your body for warmth. The arms are a great if you're long and lean so buy on the smaller side if that is your body type. The wicking really works well even under heavy sweating. It adds some warmth but not as thick as you might gather from the name and photo. Still, since you're unlikely to wear long sleeves in warm weather, it's an ideal base or top layer in mild conditions. It fits well under other layers and is quite comfortable even under a tight pack. | |

scratchy | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This shirt is scratchy, even after several washings. I don't know why: and the fit is small. I usually fit in an XL, since I am 6'1" and about 215 lbs with broad shoulders, but not with this one. For the money, and comfort I prefer the Marmot base layers. Heck, even the Columbia Titanium half zip is more comfortable than this crew. | |

| I liked the warmth of the garment especially on cold evenings in Northern California. Although it was somewhat irritating that there is no elasticity in the cuffs of the sleeves. | |
