Common Threads Recycling ProgramResearch shows that the environmental impact of recycling worn-out Capilene base layers into new polyester fiber is significantly lower than making that same fiber from virgin materials. Taking into account that worn-out garments are diverted from trash incinerators, making new polyester fiber from recycled garments results in an energy savings of 76% and a CO2 emissions [greenhouse gasses] reduction of 71%, versus creating that fiber from new raw material. Capilene® Core Performance®Capilene base layers afford quick-drying, next-to-skin moisture management for all activities in all conditions ? from high-altitude bivies to sun-soaked water sports. Rock star
| Rating: | ![]() |
| So sexy I wear this as street wear and feel like a rock star on and off the trail. Makes me look way more fit than I really am and lets me function optimally, traveling or teaching or running around town. Got a medium -- I am 36A, kinda short-waisted and pear-shaped but the torso and sleeve length is perfect and the shape as well. Could accommodate those more amply endowed but fits trim on me too, no excess fabric under the arms. Although it's rated for aerobic activity in cold weather I find it comfy and cozy for more sedentary activities in our moderate Northern Cal climate. NO pilling, washes beautifully (cold wash line dry) BUT keep it away from Velcro. | |

I love this Capilene material! I ride trails with a Morgan and all the outside work that goes with horse ownership. I was always fighting a virus before this top, because I'd sweat and then get hit by a cold wind in the saddle as the air chilled or the sun went down. Now I just layer with a smart wool or ibex wool base layer first and then my Capilene 3 or Capilene 4 depending on the degree of cold, and a vest--and although I still sweat, I'm never feel the cold and the wetness wicks right off until I'm dry again and comfortable. Best of all, I don't miss a riding day because I'm sick. Thanks!

i heart Cap 4! | |

| I've been a huge fan of this piece since it first made its debut as part of the Regulator series, R.5. And I'm not a pack rat, but I do own 2 of these zip necks, 2 v-necks and 1 pair of the Cap 4 tights because this weight of Capilene is so versatile. I take the Cap 4 zip neck on every alpine climb because it offers so much warmth for so little weight/space and it is stretchy and comfortable to climb in. I bike commuted up and down the hills of Seattle year round in this layer and pretty much never leave home without it. LOVE Capilene 4! | |

It's hard to go wrong with Patagonia and the altrec.com

| We purchased two items of the Patagonia Women's Capilene 4 Zip Neck, two different lively colors. Even though my wife isn't outdoor fanatic like myself, she immediately fell in love with them. Moreover, it is much easier for me to engage her now for any of my outdoor adventures due to the warm, excellent termo-regulating qualities, and the overall quality of the product. It works well along in a vineyard setting, or during 6 hours hike together. We like to order our outdoor gear from the Altrec.com - people over the phone are friendly, knowledgeble and returning process in customer friendly to boot. | |

Fantastic Fit and Warmth!

I have owned my Cap 4's for over a year. The arms fit well, the sleeves stay down and the shirt stays down throughout activities. This is not old school capri which would end up a mess of lint after washing. This washes beautifully and does not end up out of shape for having been washed. I am a size 8 and the size M has a great fit. This will keep you warm and stop the shivers completely. You will be happy you purchased some as well as they will soon be your favorite. I hope this helps you make your decision.

Perfect top | |

| The molten lava/real red color is stunning. I love this top. I purchase a lot of polartec because I have dogs and the smooth polartec does not get covered with dog hair like synchilla or other fleece. I wear this as outerwear and I think it looks great, but it is cut very slim since it is designed to be underwear. What I would most like to see from Patagonia that you don't have now is a line of polartec that is cut to wear over an underlayer. | |

best zip neck in a long time-great gift idea

| This top, is great. I have worn this in cool and warm weather. It keeps you warm and wicks well when you are active in cold and warm weather-( when you need a layer for wind protection). It has a comfortable fit and you can pair it with casual and athletic pants/shorts etc. Pair it over a a t-shirt or base layer and you are all set. I have two of these now and absoutely love them. A great gift idea | |

I love the entire Capilene range. This Cap 4 zip neck is warm without bulk, breathable so that it works across a wide range of temps and conditions, figure flattering and washes well -- no smell after multiple days wearing it, looks and fits like new after cold wash/line dry (dry so fast too). At 5.6 with a short torso, this is still a flattering length in boy and sleeves. It is more fitted than Cap 1 and 2.

Never skimp on good base layers

| I had a bad fall/injury skiing in -20 deg windchill weather and was stuck on top of the hill in the snow for 45 min before being transported off. Doctor's were surprised that I was not hypothermic. I credit this great baselayer as I never even felt cold. I had a zipper break and patagonia replaced the product, no questions. Never skimp on good base layers, your life may depend on it. | |

a bit tighter than the cap 4 hoodie
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I find the cap 4 zip neck to be a much tighter fit than both the cap 2 (which I love), the R4, and the much-missed (bring it back, bring it back!!) cap 4 hoodie with thumb-holes, from two seasons ago. It is warm and functional, but the zipper is way too tight when fully zipped so I can never zip it up. If you normally wear M, try an L. | |

| Great fabric, great fit EXCEPT for the neck. Zipped up it is uncomfortably tight. Guess I will exchange for a cap-3 zip, which fits fine on the neck. p.s. my neck is a normal size | |

| I returned this because the fit was too tight for me and the neck too high. The sleeves and arm length would have been too long in the next size. | |

Capilene Just Not as Warm
| Rating: | ![]() |
I have a Capilene 4 short from 6 years ago that far exceeds the weight and warmth of the newer styled Capilene. The fit is now much narrower--I generally wear an XS, but go up in size for Patagonia's underwear. I ordered a M, and it was still on the snug side--I like to wear a light-weight silk underwear as a first layer, and the Capilene as a second. I think the improvements made in recyclable materials have compromised warmth and fit.

zip-neck | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This produce has been redesigned and now runs a little small, especially in the sleeves and through the back - I DON'T APPROVE OF THE CHANGE - The old design was a little bit roomer making it more versatile, a great top to carry along and through on if when you are out and the temperture drops a little or a lite drizzle hits. This new design is useful ONLY as a base layer. Very limited | |

| Was disappointed that the Capilene 4 zip-neck fit snug. I'm one of those people who really hate tight clothing and, even though I ordered a L, it was just too snug to be comfortable. The snug fit should be described in the catalog. | |
