Big fun on the lake at a good price

| I got a Pelican Castaway about five weeks ago, and haven't had my bass boat out since. A great way to get some exercise, catch some fish, and enjoy playing in the water on a hot day. It feels tippy at first, but once you spend some time with it, you realize how stable it is. I can handle the largest wakes at the local reservoir with ease. I simply throw it in the back of the truck, drive to a spot on the lake, unload it, paddle for a few minutes (the speed is surprising for a hamburger powered craft), and fish, or just enjoy the scenery. You will get wet... the scuppers allow water in the cockpit. Not a bad deal during June and July. I am 5'10" and 220, and the kayak has plenty of legroom and rides well. Rear rod holders are very practical. You can throw a crankbait or jig behind the boat and simply paddle and troll from spot to spot. Also keeps unused rods out of the way when serious fishing. Front one isn't worth a lot for the kind of fishing I like to do. Maybe a baitfisherman would like it better. Seat is okay, I had to add a pad. Seatback is better than nothing, but doesn't support the lower back very well at all. After a couple of hours, I have to get out and stretch my back and legs for a few minutes. It's a great starter kayak. Wish they made it in a 14' length. If something happened to this one, I would probably buy another. In fact, I may anyway so I can invite a friend along. This is too much fun to keep to myself. | |

Really enjoy this kayak

| I love this kayak. It doesn't track all that well, but then again, alot has to do with the paddler. The rod holder is a bit too far towards the feet, but I relocated mine a bit closer to me. The seat worked ok for awhile but after a ten hour ride, I decided it was time to upgrade to a cadillac in the seat department. This is not a speedboat, but rather a "sit back, relax and enjoy the view boat". I have a center console boat that probably will be up for sale soon as I truly love kayak fishing. This is a great kayak, especially for beginners and you will add the things you want/need the more you use it. | |

THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT OUT I SPENT OVER 6 HOURS IN IT ON THE CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER IN GEORGIA.CARRIED COOLER AND RODS HAD A FANTASTIC TIME! BEATS A FLOAT TUBE HANDS DOWN! I WILL PROBABLY PURCHASE ANOTHER SO FRIENDS CAN GO. COMMONLY GOES ON SALE HERE. MOST SIMILAR KAYAKS I HAVE SEEN ARE HUNDREDS OF $$ MORE. WELL WORTH THE INVESTMENT.

| I have had this kayak for about 6 weeks. Since I got it I havent taken my carolina skiff out once. I use it just for fishing and it is great for that use. I am in central florida and I have taken it out into the gulf with some small waves and winds. It handled fine. I dont think it is very fast but it is stable enough to fish comfortably for hours. I want another one for my wife. | |

Good All Around Kayak | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I mainly use this kayak to fish the bay & sound around Gulf Breeze, FL. I took my kayak out in the Gulf Of Mexico on a semi calm day. The kayak handled great & was very accommodating for all of my rods, tackle, & bait. I highly recommend this kayak to anyone looking to ease into the kayak fishing or recreational kayaking areas. Quoting a testimony I saw on another website..."You could pay more & get a lot less..." | |

I have bought 2 Castaways
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I have bought 2 Castways. I do alot of coastal fishing in Norh Carolina. Plenty of storage plus a place for a bucket, you can put crate behind the bucket. In the crate you can put PVC pipe to hold more rods. Front storage space for when your out for the day to fish. Very stable which is more important than speed. The hard plastic handles sharp shell beds. Great fishing kayak for the price. | |

Great all around performance
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I've had it for nearly 3 years, holding up well. Comfortable and stable, great fishing platform. Has ample storage for kayak camping, can go several days with gear. Tracks well (much better after I realized how sensitive it can be to small course changes)and turns well. Added an anchor for river fishing. A good all around boat, especially for the money. I'm buying another so a friend can use my older one. | |

Stable fishing boat | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I bought one two years ago, bought one for my son this past summer (he is USCG) and we both like them. I have used mine on the Ohio River, streams and Lake Erie. They are stable, handle a lot of gear and easy to use. Not to heavy to handle by yourself and has good storage. You can spend a lot more and get a lot less. | |

reach those hard to get shallow waters

| I use this on a large lake and now I can fish in all the places I could only see from land.It is really easy to maneuver if it's not too windy.Once you get your center of balance it is stable enough to move around without feeling like you are going to flip.I also like the many accessories you can add on to it. | |

The Pelican Castaway | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This is a great kayak for comfort, fishing, camping, and touring lakes. It is heavier than other kayaks, but the stability is well worth it. The castaway also offers great dry storage space and open storage space. The preinstalled fishing pole holders are great, along with the molded cup holder. The cadillac of lake kayaks. | |
