Best headlamp on the market...

Rating:*****

This headlamp rocks! It is bright, efficient, easy to use, doesn't flop around on your head (as many lamps do...check this out when buying by putting the lamp you are considering for purchase and jump up and down a bit as in fast hiking or running...if it bounces, bounce it right back on the shelf and then get the MYO-XP or other Petzl lamps), has three settings that are easy to use by simply pushing the button...once for brightest, twice for a bit less light and three times for lowest light setting...and four times for flashing (which I haven't needed to use). Flip the diffuser down and you get diffused light. The diffuser also acts as a protector, so I keep it down when packing the lamp. Easy adjustments and I have the additional head strap (included) attached for additional security and stability of the lamp on my head. Also fits well on helmets and again, doesn't flop around (check this out on the helmet too as the bouncing effect is intensified on helmets. I always turn one battery around when I am not using (during the day) so as not to have the lamp accidentally turned on, which drains the battery. This hasn't happened often because you can block the "on" button by easily turning the lamp upward, but once was enough and this lamp is easy as pie to open up to access the 3 AA batteries, which seem to last an eternity (even with that being the case, I always have spare freshies in my pack).

One last but important feature of the MYO-XP is that it has a "blast" button that gives you huge light for several seconds (while the button is pressed) and this is badass for route finding or animal spotting!

Buy this headlamp and you will be stoked!

Bright for the price!

Rating:****
I use this product at night for hiking or for just getting the mail...it works great both ways. Its lightweight and highly adjustable light settings and angle settings make it very adaptable for many uses.

For the price I don't think you could find anything brighter. The light will not turn night into day, but it will illuminate a wide enough area to find secure footings and see where you are going with ease.

The only flaw is the light refraction when the light diffuser is down. The light refraction is from the little nub on the diffuser used to flip the diffuser up and down. If they would have put a little piece of rubber on the end of this it would have solved this problem and also gave a little grip to flick the diffuser up and down easier. I just took a tiny piece of duct tape and put it around the nub. It solved the refraction issue and did not interfere with the diffuser at all in the up position. I write this because it is a wonderful light at a great price. If I had not done this little mod, though, the light would be very blinding on the top two settings.

Bought a second as a hedge

Rating:*****

I bought this as a backup for the same that I had bought two years ago, worried that something as good will not be made in the future. All its current competition seems to use AAA rather than the larger capacity AA's. I run year round on unlit Northern Minnesota roads, early am, and for night time X-country skiing. I have used lithium batteries because of the cold, and have yet to have an LED burnout. In the diffused mode, just great for my 60 year old pace. At faster paces, might be trickier to see far enough ahead. In the non-diffused mode, jiggles off the path ahead too easily. A put a little red flashing light on the back strap over the battery pack for additional safety.

MYO XP

Rating:*****

This is my 3rd Petzl and the best of them all! (also had 2 BD and a Princeton)
It just sit so well on your head, the light is great, low level for reading inside the tent, boost it up to find the trail in the snow! don't know why the specs say it's a front battery location, it's not - it's on the back...the new RXP is now out but I don't see any point in getting it, the XP work so well and I can live very happy with 3 lighting levels and not 9 that I need to program and then hope nothing will go wrong with the chip when I'm out in the country...why fixing something if it eint broken?

"Moosejaw, I'm your customer for all of my outdoor toys from now on!"

Rating:*****
Before praising this remarkable headlamp that I purchased for my boyfriend and will hopefully receive for my own birthday soon, I'd like to let you boys at Moosejaw know how much I appreciate the meaningless commentary located all over the website and the packaging of the product. I actually left your packaging as-is for the wrapping paper, because I knew my boyfriend would enjoy the use teeth not nails sticker as much as I enjoyed the If you've seen this box before .. sticker. So thanks, Moosejaw, for having an enjoyable website to browse, riddled with amusing remarks. I'll be back again as soon as I have enough money to justify blowing it on your toys. As an avid caver, the Myo XP h

"fantastic headlamp"

Rating:*****
I love this lamp. Wherever I go I have the brightest headlamp. I like that you can flip up/down the plastic diffuser to switch from area to spot mode. Other headlamps just never feel bright enough to me. Compare the lumens output of this one (something like 85) to most other headlamps and flashlights and you'll see it's way brighter. The burst/spot mode can illuminate something a couple hundred feet away. The one downside is that after maybe 4-5 hours the max brightness level gets a bit dimmer since the batteries drain faster than with dimmer lights. I actually got myself one because my girlfriend liked the one I got her so much!

Excellent

Rating:*****

The Myo is one of my favorite pieces of gear. I have used it in many types of conditions>

-Damp, Sandy caves of west virginia
-Freezing Cold in the mountains with tons of snow
-Rain forests of Australia in the pouring rain.
-Around the house when the power goes out.

Works flawlessly every time

The battery life is good, it is comfortable to wear and super bright. It is much brighter then any other headlamp i've seen. A little on the heavy side but worth it. One of my favorite things to do with the myo is go for night hikes because its almost like hiking in daylight.

Good Buy

Rating:****

This has served me well in many caves. The ease of having only one LED with a flip up light diffuser has been a blessing Easy to work with gloves on also. It beams bright and far when you need to and also provides a wide area of light when the lens is down. However, mine has recently broken after 2 years of moderate use. Where the wire exits the batt pack the wire became weak and broke in half. Perhaps this issue has been fixed in the 08? I WOULD still buy another as the power to wight/size ratio is great with this lamp.

Great Torch...Lights up the Night

Rating:****
I am a graduate student working with nocturnal frogs. So far this light has done a tremendous job in the field. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because I haven't used it long enough to know long-term cons. I also notice that on the brightest setting when the light is tilted down there is reflection that is somewhat distracting. This is not the case when the beam is adjusted to illuminate a broad area. I should also add that so far I have not even needed the brightest setting...it's that intense.

"Great headlamp - buy it."

Rating:****
I bought this headlamp to replace my old heavy, not very bright, battery hog incandescent headlamp and was very pleased when using it backpacking three days after I chewed through the packaging. I hate that I can't use a knife to open Moosejaw boxes. Anyway, the light is well balanced, very bright and well designed overall. The only thing I would change is larger buttons as they are hard to use w/ gloves on and adding a red filter to save eyes when doing mixed tasks in the evening.

Changing of the xenon halogen 6v globe for my MYO XP

Rating:*

This proved to be something. Fantastic light unit which did not come cheap. It worked well for some 3 years. At the time of purchase I also bought a spare globe for the unit. You just never know.
As it happened the original globe has gone - kaput - no more. Ok I said to myself: You have a spare globe. So I got out the globe and the instruction leaflet. Alas, there was no instructions as to how to change the light element. It seems very like american car: buy, drive, throw away. Or should I say i feels like a lemon (it is French you know - the guys that made Citroens). Could anybody advise me how the heck do I change the globe on the darn thing?

"Bright, light and utilitarian lamp, marred by poor regulation and waterproofing."

Rating:***
There are better lamps out there, but this Myo has several features that make it worth considering. For one, it has this neat flip up diffuser that lets you have either a spot or flood beam in one unit. It's also fairly comfortable. On the downside, it's not waterproof (I've had to dry it out after a driving rain) and it has very poor regulation on high; the max output lasts just minutes, then it's all downhill from there. I believe that Petzl has a new model (the XPS?) that has regulation and better waterproofing. That might be the winner.
