the detachable tube is brilliant. it's not super difficult, but still a small chore to thread the drinking tube through the shoulder strap of my pack. so i'm thrilled with the ability to simply detach the tube from the bladder and leave the tube in the backpack.

i took off the hose insulator and cap because it was just too bulky inside my pack (especially inside the shoulder strap), but if you're using this on the outside of a pack i can see the insulator hose working well.

the only thing i'd change: i wish they had put the little clip/loop thing on the insulator bag, on the top of the bag instead of on the bottom. the handle on the top seems bulky and pointless (it doesn't show in the product photo).

Best of the hydration bladders

Rating:****
I've used the major brands and Platypus is the only one that doesn't make water taste bad. In the past, the zipper tops became difficult to close up as the material aged---it appears that the slide top addition may solve this problem.

The detachable hose connection is a superb addition, and simplifies all kinds of pack installations. However, when detaching, be sure to clear the hose first, because any water in the hose will immediately spill out when the hose is detached (the bladder automatically seals).

I bought the cover to keep condensation at bay in the back in hot weather. I removed the rubber hose insulator, which is thick and bulky and will probably cause problems with some pack entry slots.

Best Reservoir Out There

Rating:****

I bought this as a replacement for my other insulated reservoir. I took a hard landing on my back while skiing and the Camelbak burst and I had a rucksack full of Nuun, http://tinyurl.com/nuuntablets. Ugh. Anyway, the Platypus is MUCH easier to clean than the Camelbak as it has a mouth that opens full width and the drinking tube detaches from the bag. I replaced the Platypus drinking tube cover with my old Camelbak one as it has a smaller profile. Now my wife and daughter want new reservoirs so it looks like I'll be buying a couple more. Cheers.

Great Product

I love this bag. The big mouth zip opening makes filling, emptying, and cleaning the bag a snap. I enjoy the way the tube detaches from the bag, allowing an ease of use with all of my packs that support hydration bladders.

Love it!

Great quality, and no leaking at all whatsoever. Seemed to keep water cool while hiking in Arizona. Also doesn't have that "plastic taste" that my last hydration pack had. Great buy!
