| My wife and I used these hats in the mosquito-rich woods of Alaska. It worked as advertised and was easy to use. We bought all the different head net models sold by REI to determine which one would work best. We preferred this model because the brim of the hat was relatively firm and less floppy compared to the 'bucket' model also sold by REI. The firmer brim provides a more roomy net while the other models have a tighter net which not only makes you feel claustrophobic, but also potentially allows bugs to bite you if the tight netting is flush against your face. We also preferred this over the baseball cap style hat because the side brims protect your ears from sun burn without having to apply greasy sunblock every few hours. | |

| I wore this religiously for a week in the Costa Rican rainforest. This hat was comfortable, and served to keep off sun and mosquitos alike. It did cut down on visibility a bit, but it was a fair trade off to avoid bites. The net is easy to tuck back in and get decently flat, which was a concern I had before purchase. The only thing I'd like to see added would be a neck strap; there were a few windy moments on a suspension bridge over a river I would have preferred to not need to keep a hand on my hat. | |

Good southern Sierra face flies | |

| Used on a 100 mile hike including Kern Cyn where at low elevation flies landing in your eyes are a constant annoyance. Worked well for the bugs and is compact, though the narrow brim offers minimal sun protection. Most 'extra large' hats are too small but this one is OK for someone that takes a 7 3/4-7 7/8 US size hat. | |

| This hat worked great for my son who has a bug phobia. We went fly fishing on the Teton River and the bugs were hatching like crazy but my son was well protected and was not bothered by all the bugs. He's worn the hat twice horseback ridding and on several fishing trips and he loves this hat! | |
