Bring the ORIGINAL style back, please!!!
I love the ORIGINAL style in this pant. It was perfect for hiking, travel, and work!
I have one pair, bought back in Sept. 2012, and I wear them year round all the time. They are windproof which is perfect for our windy springs while working at school, especially for outdoor duties, and dressy enough for our dress code. I get lots of compliments on them.
I wore them for 3 weeks while traveling in Scotland and Ireland in October with long underwear beneath. They were perfect for hiking in all day then heading into town for a nice dinner.
I wore them on a cruise. Again, perfect for hiking and playing on excursions, then back on the ship and didn't have to worry about changing into something dressier.
The ORIGINAL style has 3 great front zippered pockets that are quietly stylish and very functional. No back pockets for a dressier, smoother look. The smooth pant leg has a wonderful inside cord at the ankle that can be snugged up around your boot for hiking if needed; otherwise it looks like a casual dress pant.
The NEW style has much more of an outdoor adventure look to it with its zipper and Velcro hem opening for boots and its articulated knee seam. While nice features, these make it loose its work/travel/casual dress pant capability. The new style also has back welt pockets that do not zip close and the front thigh pocket is a less useful, in my opinion, inside pocket. In the ORIGINAL style pant this pocket is a sleek outside non-bulky pocket, perfect for a cell phone or maps.
Please, do not discontinue the ORIGINAL style!
Keep both styles!
Bring the ORIGINAL style back and in many colors... black, grey, navy, brown, khaki...
Tall sizes would also be very nice!!!
I hope I have convinced the powers that be, to bring the old style back. I need several more pairs!
Bring back the older version!
Like many reviewers, I bought a pair of Endeavor pants in shale several years ago and LOVE them. The fit was amazing, the fabric was breathable and flexible, and never sagged or bagged. Best of all, they make my rear end look great. I get so many compliments on those pants! Last year I bought another pair in black. The style is still great, and I wear the pants a lot, but some changes were made that are disappointing, mainly the two horrid little back pockets. They have a tiny little velcro closure that doesn't keep the pockets closed, so they pop open and pouf out. Why on earth would a designer think I'd want to carry anything right on my bum cheeks, anyway? The angled pockets on the legs are great, with high quality zippers -- the back pockets need to go. I'm going to remove the velcro on mine and sew them closed. Also the black fabric seems to be lighter than the older fabric. Not necessarily a problem, but I bought the black version because I loved the pants the way they were. The pants are good enough still that I would recommend them to friends, but now I always do it with a caveat which is that the older version was better. Please bring that version back!
The 2012 pants are the best pants ever!
I purchased the 2012 brown color pant from an REI store, and they are the best pants I have ever had! I love the fit, I love the way water just rolls off, I love the belt loops and the side cargo pocket is perfect. I get lots of compliments when I wear them and wish I had bought more, I wear them every where and wash them a lot and I do not see any ill effects from all the washing. I can grab them right out of the dryer and wear them (they do not wrinkle and do not need to be ironed). Could be longer but I'm 5'9" and it's hard to fit pants long enough in general. However, I tried on the 2013 pant and did not like them at all. I don't want the bottom zipper because I wear them to work, and they fit over my boots just fine without needing a zipper, the back pockets need to go away, and change the side cargo type zipper pocket back to the older style (more horizontal). When I looked at these pants online, I never saw a brown color, just the black and slate. Bring back the brown/khaki and I will buy 3 more!!
Great hiking pants
I bought these pants specifically for hiking during the shoulder season where the temperatures and conditions can vary dramatically in a day.
The pants are heavy enough to keep you warm on a cold day (as long as you're moving), but also breathe well on warm days.
I really appreciate the ankle adjustment feature- it allows you to tighten the leg opening around your boot which keeps the extra material out of the mud when hiking or out of your way when climbing.
My only quibble (and it's a small one) is that the pockets are a bit small and the back pockets have a velcro closure that pulls open if you bend over, so they are not secure. But if you usually bring a backpack along (which I do) then this doesn't really matter.
I usually have to wear petite sizes, but found that the petite version of this pant has a shortern inseam than I'm used to, so I went with the regular fit (I'm 5'3ish" with a 28" inseam).
Excellent hiking pants
I needed some cold weather hiking pants for a backpacking trip to Big Bend. I knew I would be doing bushwhacking in some pretty harsh terrain (cactus, lecheguilla, cat's claw) and didn't want to tear up some super expensive hiking pants. I bought these hoping they would stand up to the abuse, and they did that and more. I got stabbed, scratched, and bruised, but these pants still look brand new.
The zipper pockets are very useful and secure. These pants are water resistant, but we didn't get any rain so I don't know how they would do in a torrential down pour. I just spilled water on them repeatedly and it beaded and slid off. They did keep me quite warm in some cold wind. The pant leg is long enough to cover the top of my boots which kept dirt and grass out of my boots very well.
The only thing I would change about these pants is that I wish the crotch gusset was more breathable.
Fine but fix the back pockets, please!
These are nice pants. Only two cons. First, they're the kind of fabric that makes noise when you walk (unless you have toothpick legs, which I don't). Not a problem hiking, but since I'm fortunate enough to be able to wear them to work (but in a really quiet environment), people can hear me coming a mile away.
The BIG complaint is the back pockets. They aren't stitched down or anything and are really light-weight mesh material. They constantly bunch up. And somehow there's no give, so the velcro closure on the back pocket comes open whenever you bed over, and the pocket slides, necessitating more fiddling. Maddening!
Best thing is the leg pocket. It's perfect for a cell phone--you can discreetly remove it during a boring meeting and text under the table! It's true...
They're good, but for the price, they should be perfect.
These pants look and feel amazing!
I wore these pants on a long hike with a difficult rock scramble. The pants let me move my legs freely and I didn't feel too warm or cold wearing them.
I bought them one size larger than I normally wear in a petite size. The velcro around the ankles would let you adjust the leg hole in case the length is still too long. The pants look excellent. I'm a tight fit around the hips and butt and it wasn't a problem at all. I also tried layering a tight pant underneath, and the fit still felt good.
I agree with some of the other reviews about the back pockets. I noticed at the end of the hike one pocket had shifted itself outwards but a quick adjustment fixed that for the rest of the day.
Great pants, bad pockets
I really loved these pants - the first pair I got was a size 6, and I used it to go hiking in the rain and snow. They kept me dry and surprisingly warm, but they were a bit short from waist to crotch so I switched to a size 8. These fit better and held up on hot urban hike and were great for walking through weeds.
However, the back pockets won't stay fastened, and the hook part of the velcro is exposed whenever I move, catching on to everything - my backpack, my office chair, my base layers. It's really annoying and because of this, I'm going to return it. If you don't care about that, then they are really great pants.
Good overall; back pockets need overhaul
Bought these for a hiking trip to Yellowstone. Temps during the trip ranged from low 70s to the 30s. Weather ranged from bright sunshine to rain/snowflakes. Pants were comfortable in all temp/weather conditions. Range of motion was good, no binding or chaffing. They shed rain as advertised. Very much liked the single cord inside the waist for cinching. Styling is good and can be worn off the trail as well.
The only negative is with the back pockets. The Velcro did not stick. I gave up trying to keep them closed before the first hike began…
The pockets were an annoyance, but all things considered, I would still recommend them.
REI Endeavor Pants
I bought the REI Endeaver pants to wear on a backpacking trip and loved them. They are lightweight and move with your body, we had to shimmy over huge fallen trees and squat down with loaded packs to crawl under huge logs, slid down an embankment, and waded in the river and the pants dried beautifully. After the trip I washed them and all stains came out including the black soot from the logs. Have used them since for Yoga Hiking and they were perfect. The pants have several pockets in them that are small, eliminating the urge to overload them.
