Adventure Dog to save the day!
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I have a 1 1/2 year old black lab mix. He is 65 lbs and fits into a medium size pack. I first bought the large but it was too big. He was very hyper but every time we go for a walk now, I put the pack on him, and he is much more calm during his walk and through out the day. The zippers and pack material are very durable and the pack sits very comfortably on the dog. The nylon webbing is very breathable, keeping my dog cool, yet it is strong. Over all I am very pleased with this pack. The only exception is that everytime my dog uses it, I have to readjust the straps. They are loose in a matter of just an hour walk. I have to take the pack off to adjust it, because I am unable to do it while on the walk, but other than that, it's an all around great product. | |

Love this for my retriever

| I watch the dog whisperer and he recommended giving your dog a "job" to help calm it down. I used this for my crazy Golden Retriever and he instantly stopped pulling and walked at my side. All I need to put in there are keys and cell phone, but it can hold extra leashes, a light jacket, chuckers, tennis balls, and a water bottle or two. The only problem is you really have to work on equaling out the weight on both sides so that it doesn't shift and hang heavier on one side. Great for hikes and long walks, and very breathable. Highly recommended! | |

Highly recomended | |

| We picked this up on Sat and took it out with our Dogs Roxy and Dita on Sunday for a leisure hike. The dog had no problem with it at all. Fits comfortably, easy to adjust and the value was even better than expected. Highly recomend for dog owners not looking for something too serious. Great for Day hikes. | |

| I love my new REI dog pack! My german shepherd, Laya, loves it too! I have been looking for one like this for a year, and this was exactly what I wanted! It's beautiful and durable. I was so satisfied I ordered another for my sisters shepherd today! | |

Great Pack | |

| Great backpack. Plenty of room. The only problem is that the straps come loose frequently specially if they get wet. I fixed the problem by buying some buckles (REI sells them for less than $1) and putting them on the straps and the problem was solved!! | |

| Our dogs use the packs on overnights and they love them. The dogs never even look back once they're on. | |

Great potential but not there yet.

| If your dog's idea of adventure is a short stroll on a groomed trail this pack should work. However, if you have an energetic animal ranging off-trail on extended hikes in rough terrain this pack will not last. I've returned two already and will probably return a third. The only way to offer qualified advice to the product manager was via snail mail and then submissions are only reviewed periodically. The pack has a nice appearance and a great handle on top—it could easily be designed to work better and last longer. As noted in other reviews the straps are not dependable. The best thing about the pack is that it can be returned for a full refund when it fails. The return policy at REI is tremendous! | |

This wonderful pack | |

| This wonderful pack, which is breathable, perfect size/capacity, and good looking, is rendered totally useless for long day hikes and overnight trips that require a dog to carry his own food by clips that will not hold tension. As one other reviewer said, the strap adjustment loosens and must be re-tightened every hour. So just imagine how a person would feel with pack straps that won't hold adjustment. Belle says "Grrrrrr." | |

Great Idea...but | |

| I am almost a daily hiker. I average about 15 miles a week. My dogs are always with me and are off leash and romping through the woods constantly. I have a 100 pound Akita mix and a 45 lbs. Pointer mix. I like the design and look. The straps allow for the load to be pulled over the shoulders, but as most have said, the straps lack the ability to hold tension for long periods. The large is a bit TOO large even for my 100 lbs. dog. Heavier loads tend to sag the bags below her belly, which impairs her range of motion. The 45 lbs. Pointer wears a medium and it works great for her. I am on my second one with her as a snag through the woods started to pull the right bag away. I think the seams should be reinforced to keep from this happening. I love the idea of the dog pack since they hold their own food when we hit the trail, but this product still needs some modifications to be right for the overnight trip. If you're an every now and again hiker or aren't worried about your dogs comfort over an extended hike, then this pack should be just fine. Besides, they look so dang cute wearing a pack. I think it makes them feel tougher too. Happy tails! | |

Panniers too large | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I have a large pack for my 115lb. lab-mastiff mix and a med. for my 80lb. German Shepherd and for the most part they work well. Neither dog minds wearing his pack and they are both able to carry their own food and water for a weekend backpacking trip. Both dogs hike off-leash and wander on and off the trail; through underbrush, streams, you name it and the packs have held up very well all summer. My only problem is the size of the panniers on the large. I can't find enough to fill the panniers causing the items in them to sag and sink down below the belly on my big guy, restricting his movement and causing him to walk 'funny'. I added straps to compress the load which has helped some, but now I have to re-adjust the belly straps everytime I re-adjust his load. This hasn't been a problem with the shepherd as the panniers on the medium are just right. Bottom line; I would recommend this pack to those with smaller to medium-large dogs, but no-one who requires a large. | |
