Excellent Day Bag

Rating:*****
I use my Boarding Bag for everyday use, on trips, around town, everywhere. I stuff everything I can into it and it's held up.

It's the perfect size for my Asus EEE mini-laptop, its power cord and assorted papers, cell phone, PDA, iPod Classic, checkbook, Swiss Army Knife and pens. (I can fit a paperback in there if I don't load the Asus in it) The front pocket is great for holding small stuff, like chapstick, mints, business cards, you name it.

There's a main pocket which holds the larger items.

In front of that is a secondary organizing pocket which has a pocket for a cell phone and a PDA, a small zippered mesh pocket (I stash an extra SD card in there for my camera), a zippered pocket perfect for change and money, three pen pockets, and a thin pocket perfect for stashing receipts or stamps.

The next pocket is great for holding key, bills you're about to drop off at the Post Office and other flat items. And then there's the small l-shaped zippered pocket in front, which I've already mentioned.

The only "problem" I've had with this bag is that it's small enough that it forces me to winnow down what I carry, so I don't haul my house around with me (I'm a turtle). Also, because I tend to overload it with heavy stuff--up to five pounds!--the carry handle is starting to tear away slightly at a corner, so I'm going to have to get that fixed, or see if REI will replace the bag.

This is an awesome bag. The ONLY thing it doesn't have going for it is that it's not stylish enough for an office setting. But oh well, you can't have everything! (and you know what? I'd probably use it in an office, anyway)

Yes, it's ugly. But it's also awesome.

Bought for two month trip across South America. Used as carry-on, purse in the city, daypack for hiking, overnight bag for short tours.

Water bottle pocket fits short Nalgene.

I almost did not buy this bag because it is so very ugly. However, the huge amount of room and the fact that I could pack it completely flat in the top compartment of my backpack lured me in.

It was the perfect travel bag and I am totally in love with it after using it many different ways. If they ever put out a pretty version I will buy it, but for now I am using the ugly one anyway because it's just that good.

Great Everyday bag

Rating:*****
I am unable to wear a fanny pack, have been looking for a long while for something that helps me keep things organized, in their place and secure. The bag is solid, well built, and has a place for almost everything I need to take with me on day to day activities. In addition, it keeps all my valuables together in one neat, well organized place. The only wish I have is that it would come in more than two colors, but everyone that has seen me wearing it, ends up and wants one.

Great Man Purse

Rating:*****
I've used this nearly every day as a, well, um, a purse! It also does double duty as a guide bag for hiking and camping, and it fills both roles beautifully. My only two complaints are: the lack of an exterior cell-phone pocket; and, the uncomfortable, stitched strap. I fixed the former with an add-on from Timbuk2, and the latter by cutting away the old strap and using key-rings to attach a swiveling, clip-on strap.

I wouldn't mind a version with a heavier-grade, rip-stop nylon.

Very Versatile Bag

Rating:****
I love this bag. I had to buy a new one once the previous version of this bag had an unfortunate accident with a small dog. My only complaint is that the shoulder strap twists because there are no swivels at the base. It's great for day-to-day stuff back and forth to work and even better as my carry-on bag for airplanes. It keeps everything right where it should be.

Excellent Kit bag

Rating:****
This bag is for times I need to carry gear but pockets aren't enough and a backpack is too much. I don't like fanny packs, but the padded shoulder strap across my chest provides a very secure carry. I use it to carry a small first aid and other small items that are useful throughout the day.

Great Bag!

Rating:*****
I bought this to use for an upcoming trip abroad. I like the roominess (for camera and tour books) and various compartments (for passports, tickets, etc) - especially like the discrete water bottle holder. Can be worn across the body. Just the right size - not too big and not too small.

Great basic bag

Rating:****
This is a great basic everyday and travel bag. It fits into my daypack for airplane travel, and is large enough to take along on its own. If only it could be worn as a waistpack it would be perfect!

great for everyday use

I have had a similar REI bag for 3 years and the time has come to find a replacement. I will buy the same bag again and use it daily for the next 3 years or so.

"small" and stuffable

Rating:****
Fifth "purse" I've tried from REI in the last few months, and love its compact, organized, easy-accessibility, and relative lack of exposed tricot-like fabric which snags if velcro looks at it.
